Fabulous! I fondly remember a mince pie eating competion with Les at The Shire Hall Presteigne. I think it was 1977, the occasion being a Christmas party thrown by Garry Banks and Nicky Jones-Evans. There was much fun!
Rob & Les, this is an absolutely stunning arrangement and a nice story on the video too. I also need to contradict Ted's Tube's comment about the Oldfield mask. Rob's music stands up in its own right with its own 'signature' and certainly doesn't feel like a pastiche of Oldfield or anyone else. It's also great to see Les Penning back in action and the work that he and Rob are doing together is a joy to hear (I would go as far as saying that their version of Portsmouth is better than the original!). Keep up the good work, both of you! Nigel
Nigel Cryer What tripe. Better than Mike Oldfields original😂. That’s ridiculous. Rob is a copyist. Why doesn’t he be original. I’ve followed Oldfield since TB. He has influenced and emotionally helped millions of people the world over. Les is a fabulous musician, but Mike Oldfield brought him into recognition through his music. I’d never heard of Les Penning till In dulci Jubilo... I loved Pipe Tune, Argiers, Portsmouth, Ommadawn. Rob is obviously an Oldfield fan, but he is copying Oldfields style, Mike’s music and genius is instantly recognisable, this isn’t.
