Latte - Coffee & Milk.
Macchiato - Coffee and small amount of Milk (Usually foamed).
Mocha - Chocolate flavor of a Latte.
Cappuccino - Coffee and Steamed Foamed Hot Milk, (Often has cinnamon).
Frappuccino (or Frappe at McDonalds) - Iced variant of Cappuccino.

What I was taught was:
Latte: Espresso shots at the bottom of cup + steamed milk with a little bit of foam on top poured on it
Macchiato(Means "shot on top"): Steamed milk with a little foam + espresso shots poured on top
Mocha: A Starbucks Cafe Mocha is- Mocha syrup + Steamed milk with little foam + espresso shots + whipped cream on top
Cappuccino: Espresso shots at the bottom + steamed milk with a LOT of foam, and little milk
Frappuccino (not at all like a cappucino): Usually consists of: Blended ice + frapp base(contains binding agent and sugar) + frapp roast if coffee-based + whole milk
This is how I and my coworkers make the drinks at Starbucks, but if OP needs to know anything else, they just need to ask their barista.

They won't judge you for it, they are happy when people are curious.
A latte is espresso and steamed milk with a bit of foam. A cappuccino is espresso and steamed milk with a lot more foam. Mocha is essentially a latte with chocolate syrup added (its basically a hot chocolate with espresso).
People need to be careful about how they use the term “coffee”. When most Americans think coffee they think drip and not espresso. But yeah its really not that hard to figure out as it seems, especially when you taste the differences

It would be much easier if they had a paper or machine to give us so we can check the things we want ourselves. It is difficult to have to order everything specifically from talking, especially when other people are waiting behind you.

+Bob Thenob actually Starbucks only had two sizes called "Short" which was 8 ounces and a "Tall" that was 12 ounces. They wanted to add more sizes and so they added a larger size: "Grande" which consists of 16 ounces and then finally they added the the "Venti" which is the 20 ounces cup. Cheers!

I was ordering for the first time and said "Can I get a cappuccino?" And they said "Sure! What kind?" And I DIDN'T KNOW WHICH ONES THERE WERE CAUSE IT WAS MY FIRST TIME. And I pointed to the menu and told them "that one on the menu (the display picture)" and they said, "oh that one?" And told me all the different kinds. After 6 hours I finally understood and ordered a Double Chocolate Chip one.

I just did that yesterday. I wrote very clearly and the barista appreciated it. There was no way I was going to remember a Quad Grande Caramel Ribbon Crunch Frappuccino with Coconut Milk, Whipped Cream and whatever else I got. :p

Tbh I only ever tried Starbucks once simply cuz they don't have it in the area I live, but all I got was a medium java chip frap because I heard my friends say it's amazing so I trusted it. Ended up LOVING it. I'm also not a very big coffee drinker in general tbh

Medium is Grade. We speak English too so there's absolutely no need to worry about it.
Go back to the Starbucks, and order (caramel macchiato, grande).

Wouldn't it make more sense to say: I want a hot, grande, caramel latte, full fat milkwith one pump hazelnut, one pump chocolate and whipped cream on top? Instead of saying your type of drink last?
Yes!! Knowing what the drink is first definitely helps alot especially of you're ordering at the drive thru.
If you just want coffee, go to Dunkin Donuts, theirs is better. All you have to say is "large hot coffee" and they speak the same language.
My favorite drink is an Iced Grande Double Shot Vanilla Soy Latte.

Literally the sides of the cup have little boxes that the baristas fill out as you tell them what you'd like in your order. Although the drink temp doesn't get its own little box on the side of the cup, they still put down iced/hot. Then if someone gets a different amount of decaf the barista will write somethin in that box. Then they fill out the other boxes according to if the customer had asked for extra whatever they wanted. THENNN THEY READ OFF THE SIDE OF THE CUP (WHICH IS ESSENTIALLY YOUR ORDER) to make sure that they got everything right. They may read somethings back in "Starbucks language" rather what you had called it when you ordered it.
As a Starbucks employee, I find these kinda videos stupid. Just order what you want, the barista should know the screen. If you say "vanilla latte, non fat milk grande" so what if its backwards, its my job to know the screen- not the customers. Im lucky to work at a good one I guess, cause all my coworkers are awesome and will help or make recommendations if someone is unsure what they want.

Just curious - why do you have to specify if hot or iced? If I say I’d like a small coffee wouldn’t it already be pretty clear I’d want a small coffee? If I wanted it iced I would have said iced. If I don’t preface with iced it should just be assumed hot ,correct?

Cockstruction Worker I promise its not as complicated as people may think. I think most people get confused because theres so much customization that can be done to drinks. Also, its OKAY to say small medium and large. Even though Tall grande and venti are the SB sizes, we baristas are trained to accept those answers as well and are totally fine with it.

little reen a cappuccino is a hot drink. Its espresso, and steamed milk but more foam (as opposed to a latte, which has more steamed milk than foam).
A frappuccino is a blended drink that is basically like a milkshake. We make them usually with whole milk but if you want to use another type of milk (like a non dairy milk, like soy or almond or coconut) you can ask for it.
A cappuccino with whip will be a foamy hot espresso beverage that has whip on top. Because of the foam it is usually dry, and it isnt sweet. You can ask for the syrups you want in it if you like, but by itself it doesnt come with any flavors added to it. A frappuccino is usually sweet, and must be ordered depending on what type you want, and is a blended cold beverage, usually most popular in warmer seasons

In my experience with my stores I just wait to the side of the counter for the drink. Then you can just add sugar etc

There is no "right" or "wrong" way, there IS a more efficient way. If you know how to place your order without "Um, this, and um, that, and oh can you go to that thing that was on the other screen that you just moved away from", you'll receive more efficient service. Of course if a customer doesn't know how to order efficiently the barista is still going to take the order, nobody said that they wouldn't.
The Reason is why am Nervous when am Ordering something Mostly Milktea or Starbucks is because the Ones who Actually Go There every Day always thinks that were dumb for Making a Mistake on just Ordering

There is no "wrong" way to order, it's just more efficient to order this way. You can order any way you want but they'll read it back to you like this to make sure they've gotten everything correct
The reason why starbucks do it that way its cuz it's easier for the barista to write down. Cuz if u say the size first without indicating the type of drink whether u want cold or hot, the barista might pick a venti cold cup and start writing stuff on it, when it turns out you wanted a hot drink. Trust me that is very annoying for the barista. I was once so i know..
