One tip I'd like to add, as pointed out in Scott Robertson's book "How to Render", is texture gradation. Texture is most visible on reflective surfaces at the center light, whereas on matte surfaces it is most visible at the mid tones, the area on the light side closest to the core shadow. Last week I upgraded to Painter 2017 (I was previously on X3), and it has a lot of cool and fun texture options. And the glazing brushes are a joy to play with too!
I love how you use Corel Painter. You're one of the few who really seems to master it in terms of concept art and solid drawing skills. I never used paper textures like that, but definitely should! :)
LOLOLOLOLOL sinix i just realized when i draw, especally drawing designs i have a habit of tilt my head from side to side constantly none stop (similar to a curious puppy). i realized i also have that same habit of doing so when i watch your real time tutuorial videos, LOLOL it was so awkward cus i was watching it with a friend, we burst out laughing after he told me cus he waited a whole 20 mins before he told me
Hi Sinix! Another splendiferous video. Are the brushes you use available for download? Are they compatible / transferable to Photoshop? Or perhaps there is a method you use to creating them that I can apply to my own? They look absolutely stupendous and I'd love to try them out! Thank you! Shelly
lovely! I'm just now trying to find out whether or not to buy corel painter and i really love what you're doing with it! although it's clear that you just have the skill to probably make some badass art even with win97 paint ;D still, the brushes and the way the media is simulated looks nice in your vid. =) i've mainly worked with PS until now - what do you guys think are the strong points of corel painter when compared to ps? thanks for any unput in advance!
it feels like u and me are the only artists who actually use corel painter for more than 5 minutes and were trying to figure out how the fuk do we do photoshop things in this limited program.
you can do it by making a textured brush in Photoshop, it's just not as fluid as using a paper texture, rotating / scaling / flipping in Painter, it's much easier and fluid in Painter you can also easily change depth and contrast of the paper in Painter, it's much harder to do that in Photoshop, you would need to capture multiple brushes
***** If you watch his other video called Painting Like a Sculptor, you'll see that the main painting brush he uses is the Dry Brush, found under the acrylics brushes. For sketching he typically uses the Scratchboard tool.
Ugh. You totally skipped over the fine controls. When you textured the bird you changed the size and warped it. I paused it and still can't really tell what the heck you're doin.
And holy crap. At 7:50 the part where you're rotating the texture, why is it resizing the texture without registering it on the bars? I'm doing it right now and as your rotate it it goes through a 'small-to-big-to-small' phase as it goes around. But the size bar is the same. So you gotta like eyeball the right size because it changes every different angle. I can see it's happening to you too I think.
It's like when you have the texture at a straight angle like it's supposed to be, it's at the normal size. But as soon as you angle it, it shrinks. And then with some textures it doesn't do it at all. I'm so confused right now...

Good info! Thanks.
will u do more critiques in the future
the lazy paintings are the best to me. I love loose brush strokes, and the paper texture works best in that context I think.
I never thought about using the paper textures this way. This is very helpful
that first texture was incredible, when i saw that draw on twitter i thought that you just used some photo texture, but you actually painted it!

This is a really cool idea that I'd love to see explored more sometime in the future.
Man! thank you, thank you, thank you so much for sharing this. This is exactly what I was missing with my art and completely overlooked.
So glad to see your Painter vids!
Just found your channel. Incredibly useful information. So glad to see some excellent painter content

I love this kind of effect the thumbnail reminds me of Jay Park and Oscar Llorens
Creating the illusion of detail thru chaos.
Damn I like that phrase.
Damn textures are powerful in sinix's hands
excellent stuff, you may be the one who turns life long photoshop users to corel painter. btw love the dry brush
cool thing with the newer versions of painter is that you get random gran rotation anyways if you want that does exactly what you might need
such a good video!

Hi Sinix, do you have any tips/examples for painting blizzard type weather scenes please?
+Sinix Design did you ever run out of corel painter activations if so how did you resolve it?
Hi! What are your dry brush settings for the mech piece? Or, do you have it available for download?
Great work man!!!
I've never been this early before. Senpai notice me!
Trying corel after using psd for the past 5-6 years, any suggestions? also is their certain brush set which would work better than others?
cheers
You say you’re character, does that mean you have some kind of story? If where could I find it?

Sinix I love stranger things!
I see you have liquify brush? where do i get it?
Would it be possible to apply the same technique on Photoshop? +sinixdesign
Any recommended brushes?

Is there anywhere we can download or buy your brush pack?
Its one of the defaults in corel painter with minor changes i think
He's using default brushes within Corel Painter.
FragMentEditing Which ones?

Theoretically it should be possible to do similar in Photoshop.
the angle tab is missing from my paper panel :(
