    Did a deal when I was 19 ended up with an H1B, double discs, alloy rims, 19" wheels front and rear (same as TT bike) and nickle plated frame, hell it was fast for the time, but never handled bad or fluffed plugs. I loved that bike even toured Italy and I own one now my God its hard work, Paul is so right. But hit 6,000 and off they go. Great video really caught the character of these bikes...load of old gits on bikes lol.

    Hello, I always kept the steering damper at " Full Loose ". Always. Traded the rear shocks for Konis with dual rate springs. for this model. It cured the intermittent speed wobble. H1s had plastic trailing arm bushings. Next on the " To Try List " were bronze aftermarket trailing arm bushings. The NGK Surface Gap Plugs were the way to go. After time they would get a little crusty but Never fouled ever. Surface gap plugs were designed for outboard boat engines. Rider here was rolling on the throttle. Had throttle intensity was increased and shifts made quick the front wheel should be lifting at 70+ m.p.h. while shifting into third gear. The 1971 models had the more high-tech ignition. I kept mine for thirty-two years. In 1971 I paid $ 1134.37 for the quickest of all, cheapest motorcycle available. They were the first bikes to achieve the nomenclature " Superbike ". As is often shouted in unison upon the streets of Kyoto, Japan: " Hey! "

      @@ProjectMoto Hello, I was moving to do long term camping, thus losing my garage. Found a fellow that was really interested in the bike. After about a year, I purchased a miniature motocross bike. A " Genuine Flywing " that was made in China. It had a 110 c.c. copy of a Honda S-90 engine. I rode it all over the wagon roads in the area of central Arizona that I was camped in. It was a good bike and impressed me by lasting so long. " Hey! "

    We had a blue one three roads down from where I lived in the early 70s. You wouldn't believe how much smoke it made when it cold started in the morning on his way to work. Possibly something to do with the old spark plugs or how he had the auto-lube set - but for whatever reason that bike had a serious smoking habit first thing. I knew his younger brother and he told me he was a speed demon on it and had been caught travelling through a neighbouring village at 80mph. 😂😂

    I bought this exact bike new from a Southern California dealer for about $750- it was quiet, smooth, and powerful. Not as crazy as my brother's earlier H1 (the original blue one), which was a dog until 4,000 then you could literally be pulled off the seat. It was my second bike, the first being a slightly used R5 in orange/white (dumb luck to buy such a great bike with no experience). I ran the 500 for about 5 years with one memorable speed wobble at night down a long curve on a grade at about 100, and a few 12.5 quarter miles at Irwindale's public night- one of the original drag tracks up near the San Gabriels, and a totally blinded pass of a semi-trailer one night in a heavy rain returning from the North- I just couldn't stand drowning back behind it anymore. I added a tooth to the drive sprocket for the trip, and it would run 75-80 easy on the road.

    I had a 1971 Mach III. I took it to the Carlsbad drag strip in San Diego to see what I could do. The bike was my daily driver. I kept my weight over the tank, but still wheelied all the way through first gear. I ran just over 13 seconds. The fastest I ever went was 114 according to my speedometer. I don’t know if it could have gone much faster, but on less than perfect pavement it was too scary to find out. I wore an open face Bell with ski goggles. It was so dang loud and I had zero protection from the wind. Oh I loved that bike!

      @@ProjectMotoWhen properly tune/setup/syc the carbs,oil pump & run a high quality syn injector oil like Belray SI7 you will not foul any plugs in a Kawi triple.
      This is coming from my 1st hand Exp wrenching/restoring Kawi triples & big fours since the late 60’s & early 70’s.
      I currently have 2 74H1 E’s on the road along with a 78 kz1000 LTD too,still having loads of fun wrenching & riding @ 67 yrs old!
      Btw,due to poor combustion chamber design on H1’s even with their fairly low compression they can detonate on todays crappy 91-93 pump fuel esp with 10% ethanol that can cause major piston/engine damage if/when it happens esp under WOT load.
      To avoid that & for best power perf I run a real lead octane booster avail from Wild bills corvettes in USA.
      I treat the 91 or 93 pump fuel to obtain a minimum of 98 octane fuel like the Sunoco 260/100-102 leaded fuel I used to run in my muscle cars & bikes 50+ yrs ago. They need the addition octane to avoid detonation if you run it hard at times & to also ensure they put out max power too!

      Is that the octane rating for fuel in the U.S.🇺🇸 91 and 93?? Here in Australia🇦🇺 and New Zealand🇳🇿 we have 91🤢 95👍🏾 and 98😮 we can treat the 98 and get around 107 plus we have the E85 which I think is 100 octane🤔🤔

    I had a 500 from the last year. It was 44 lbs heavier with 8 hp less than the earlier ones, but still went. I never had problems with fouling spark plugs. Is the oil injection set right? It had no power below 4000 rpms but came on quickly. Not enough gas and it bogged. and too much and it stood up straight. I found a sweet stop for me. I would lay over the tank, rev up the engine and when the tach hit 4000 I would release the clutch so it would fully engage by 6000 rpms. The rear tire would spin for about 10 feet and the front end would come up about 6 inches and you are off and flying. The brakes seemed fine to me (compared to contemporaries) and the handling was adequate.

    • @ProjectMoto
      @ProjectMoto  9 місяців тому

      Ha That’s great , yeah funny how every bike you ride you have to learn how to ride it and get the best out of it, when you get on different bikes for the fist time there a lot you have to work out , I think the brakes and handling were ok for back then, it’s just what you get used to now that really highlights them, great bikes though and very interesting to ride
