was this game always like this or only dlc charaters are allowed to do cool combos?

Just my personal opinion but I think DLC characters in general have more to offer in the combo department. If any of my GBVS combo videos have a lot of jumping opponents then that shows that the character doesn't have much to offer unless it's a specific setup.
