too loosen the shifter, loosen the bolt that holds the shifter bushings in slightly(). those bushings go bad often so people replace them and most likely just tightened it too much.
@jaredjed11 did you install a new pilot bushing? Does the clutch alignment tool go in smoothly. If so, rotate the engine slightly it might help. If you did replace the pilot bushing sometime they can get mushroomed on top making it hard to install the transmission
@@ERICSDIYGARAGE reused same pilot changed my clutch 20k miles ago but shop didnt tell me rear main seal was leaky or owm flywheel was heat stressed , yeah everything aligned correctly tool and all , went in and out ez gonna try tilting back engine after work it wont go like the last 1” and the splines are connecting and rotating w the engine , so i think its all about the angle for my case my mounts dont sag too much
@jaredjed11 if everything is rotating as it should when it's that far apart you should be fine to install the bolts by hand. The difference in the length is probably because of the position of the engine and transmission
If you remove the shifter from underneath yes you don't have to but that makes more work in my opinion. The shifter boot and shift knob needs to come out if you do it this way

Throw a short throw shifter in it and check the bushing when you put it in might be too tight

Did you tilt the engine back when you reinstalled me and my friend spent like 6 hrs trying to get my trans back in man such a pain
The engine will be already somewhat tilted back cause of the weight but it can be tricky to get installed just takes practice
