Tip from a long-time salesperson - put price labels on the back or underside of ALL your items... People are 18% more likely to purchase an item if they touch it... so if they pick it up to read the price on the back - Hey Presto they touched it!! It seriously works! Once a person has handled an item they connect with it in a more meaningful way!! Genius, right!!?
Did you know most books come with a price already on them. Look at the bar code. On the top of it are some numbers. One is the price set by the publisher.

About your potion at the end of your video. I'm a decorator for a haunted house attraction, and bitter experience has taught me to not to use substances that can rot, and leave an unpleasant smell/visual. (though unpleasant is great for a haunted house, we don't like actual rot) I would recommend you switch out the fluid for pure alcohol or lamp oil to preserve what ever else you add to the bottle. You can then add mica powder and the items you want in your potion. It's really just about trying what works best. Congratulations on your store, it looks stunning.
Imagine if one of the antiques she bought ended up being haunted and she acquired her very own shop ghost like each hp house having a ghost 😂 loving EVERYTHING so far!
AND Dangerous, like her fall😮! She could have gone through the window😢! My nephew fell through a display cabinet and braced for the fall cutting his hand & forearm tendons & muscles badly. He can't use his predominant hand at all & it looks horrible! Cherry scared the crap out of me😢!!! So Glad it didn't go bad for her, just embarrassing😊! Whenever I'm asked if I'm OK, I answer with "Depends on who you ask!"😂
My aunt owns a cake shop with an island of cupcakes in glass domes. One thing we learnt from that - customers can be clumsy. Might be a good idea to add a wooden rim round the candle island to prevent a glass dome from sliding off the island when a customer's elbow knocks it.

I’ve worked yeeeears of retail and if I could offer just a couple bits of unsolicited advice; if there’s is any drawer or cabinet that you want to be staff access only, key locks are highly recommended. People love to help themselves. Which brings me to my last, and probably most important but of “advice”, if you think people WON’T do something, they absolutely WILL. Whether it’s messing/playing with decor or doing just the most insane things where you think “a normal person would never..” They will. People are crazy. Oh the stories I could share lol. I would have liked to see the cube units in a blackish navy and not cow kak brown.Needs a fake fire with plastic cauldron and throw a small dry ice machine in, use real logs and a hanging cauldron.. IKEA has real smoky fire oil for electric no fume burners. Take a leaf out of Disney's' book with the iron on T shirts at high prices..and with with the products And orange pumpkin lollies. and pleeeeease sell foiled book sleeves with the shop name. address and website on the back. Foiled is IN. and orange pumpkin rock, sweet treats. lollies
Highly recommend since you used a potentially sugary drink to fill the potion bottle, put like 2 teaspoons of isopropyl alcohol in it so it doesn't mold.
Something you could be interested in : if you don't want to spend your time cleaning bits and pieces of moss falling each time people pick up an item, you could do what people do when sealing ground or other details in diorama, which is : spraying it with water mixed with a little bit of liquid soap (to break the surface tension) and then mixing up some craft glue (like Mod podge) and some water in a spray and spraying the hell out of that moss, so it fixes it better. then you let it dry and voilà. you can do another coat if you feel it's not enough.
Now all we need is a footage of Leslie and Cherry cutting a ribbon with comically large scissors to commemorate the shop opening (also nice gravity check Cheryl 😉)
It might be an idea to have a guestbook in your shop for customers to leave messages to you as you will not always be there. And also to show their appreciation. Helps you to know how people like the shop.
Hi, Cherry. why don't you get a beat up cauldran. And put it in a corner in your shop with cobwebs on it and an old sign saying The Lost Cauldran. You could even put some stuff infront of it. So when people find it, its special to them. Its just an idea I had watching this video.

No, I meant set dressing 😊 especially above the shelves etc, as they’re literally a mini set for the shop. Our shop looks closer to a movie set than a traditional shop too haha.
I understand what you’re saying. Visual merchandising has a lot more intention and marketing science behind it than what she is doing, which is essentially placing around props that won’t be interacted with and/or adding space filler of a common theme.

Its so important to always have a place to sit to do things and for customers. I have lupus and I wear out easily or hurt if standing too long, so I have to have places to sit. You might consider a bench of some sort somewhere also.

I love the attention to detail and how nit picky you’ve been with the design of the shop! But I also love that you’ve shown the process of everything and I hope it inspires people out there who want to start their own business to do so.
I think that people confuse what nit-pick or nitpicky actually means. In my part of the world being "nit picky" is equal to be difficult. But to me what the that really means is people complaining about having to do the work right. Which I think that some people don't understand in a situation like this. It isn't nit pick, if you are focused on details to sell a story and experience. Because trust me. People will notice if you cut corners and do a half or less then job.
Hey cherry for your giant potion, if you ever want to change it out you can achieve the mystical swirl effect with shaving cream and water (lots of shaving cream and a little water) and then you can make it whatever color you want with food coloring … I made them as sensory bottles when I worked with toddlers

Big tip as a retail worker is to have signs for prices of things you have a lot of, especially small things like bookmarks, so you and your staff aren't spending time price marking all day. Especially as people WILL ask how much something is before they look for themselves 😂😂

Be neat to partner with a local confectionery or sweet shop to have your own chocolate or cookie frogs and perhaps a carpenter to make your own wands with his/her scrap pieces.

As someone who was a cop for 20 years but also worked in retail, security cameras are an absolute must! It gets REALLY busy where you are located with tourists which brings shoplifters and thieves

I totally agree. If I look at a product and there is not a price, I don't bother with it anymore.
I personally am more likely to buy something if I know the price and don't have to ask...I get shy sometimes and avoid asking
If the price is not visible for me, I just assume it’s pricey and just move on. Especially if it’s a small shop. 🤷🏻♀️
Also try and avoid putting stickers on the unprotected front of paper products as it is very hard to get them off without ruining the item
As a customer I don't bother if I have to search for a price and don't want to support the seller because I feel tricked.
Tip: Price the book on the inside of the book cover so the pretty covers doesn’t get damages by the glue! Love your hard work, so amazing!

Every time I see Leslie at work I'm amazed because he's so skilled at what he's doing.
I love the attention to detail and how nit picky you’ve been with the design of the shop! But I also love that you’ve shown the process of everything and I hope it inspires people out there who want to start their own business to do so.
I think that people confuse what nit-pick or nitpicky actually means. In my part of the world being "nit picky" is equal to be difficult. But to me what the that really means is people complaining about having to do the work right. Which I think that some people don't understand in a situation like this. It isn't nit pick, if you are focused on details to sell a story and experience. Because trust me. People will notice if you cut corners and do a half or less then job.

Hey cherry for your giant potion, if you ever want to change it out you can achieve the mystical swirl effect with shaving cream and water (lots of shaving cream and a little water) and then you can make it whatever color you want with food coloring … I made them as sensory bottles when I worked with toddlers

I have no idea what's in the shop now but here's just a running list of ideas while watching the episode: shop socks, scarves, postcards, specialty craft things (cross stitch and needlepoint), maybe a knitted shawl of a cauldron pattern, lost cauldron pillow case or sign poster. As a person sensitive to strong scents, may I say how much I appreciate the cloche idea so the shop is not overpowered with scent but yet people can explore the scent as they wish. Brilliant idea. The shop is truly magical and I can't wait to plan a trip to the UK to visit.

Big tip as a retail worker is to have signs for prices of things you have a lot of, especially small things like bookmarks, so you and your staff aren't spending time price marking all day. Especially as people WILL ask how much something is before they look for themselves 😂😂

As someone who was a cop for 20 years but also worked in retail, security cameras are an absolute must! It gets REALLY busy where you are located with tourists which brings shoplifters and thieves
