I find your walking and reading vlogs really soothing and I know the government have said that even self isolating people can go for a walk as long as it’s in places with no crowds so something like that would be lovely.

I would like to see a video where you discuss your progress as a reader, what kindled your interest in books and what kind of phases did you go through and when did you realise that you were a bookworm and when did you desire to become a writer.

I can’t overstate the impact that the Georgia books had on the linguistic development (?) of my friend group, and our collective sense of humour as well. (Maybe also how I thought of men, too, because Dave the Laugh seemed like the PINNACLE of mankind.) There are so many things that I/we still say because of these books. For that reason, Louise Rennison has such a special place in my heart; she was such an influence on how I communicated - and thus how I saw myself and the world - as a young teen. I remember where I was when I learned of her passing away during university. You bring up so many good points here about how the books age! This summer I found them in a clear-out of my mum’s garage and now I have to decide if I want to revisit them or leave them “pure” (so to speak) in my memory.

When you said the “piddly diddly department” my brain instantly replied with “or the poo parlour division” 😂 I saw Louise Rennison at an event once and she said that the stories are basically her own teenage years, and all the characters are real. I loved the idea of that! Apparently Jas and Tom are very happily married 😄

I haven't returned to these books for fear of everything you said! But I adored them as a teenager, and they will always be so special to me. Plus I agree about the funniest section - I have a vivid memory of being on a train and crying with laughter at the eyelash scene, so much so that the man next to me was deeply concerned and asked if I was okay.

Ah amazing! I don't think I got through all ten, but I bloody loved this series when I was a teen! Emma's readathon vlogs have been hilarious and I really loved hearing your thoughts about them. It's difficult going back to things sometimes, and cringing with the hindsight of time and maturity, but I think I'd definitely be up for revisiting them. I'd forgotten about so many of the amazing moments that you mentioned and they really made me giggle.
Also honestly, if I could live off bolognese I would, so no judgements here about you making it so often 😉
I am very lucky in that I've been on sick pay this week since the first day I had to start social distancing, and when my workplace closes down on Friday we will all be on full pay until we're able to re-open. I'm staggeringly grateful that I've not had to put my income above my health, like so many other people I know have to do right now. I usually buy a few extra food items at the supermarket for the food bank box, so in the absence of being able to get there I've donated to the Trussell Trust. Thank you for the reminder

I had noooo idea there are 9 books in the series! I just looked it up and I probably read up to book 5, it seems I've never been good at keeping up with series! I enjoyed the books but I think I definitely knew at the time that it was a completely different world from me, it very much reminded me of the girls I went to school with and how they behave so I'm not surprised it hasn't all aged well! The last bit about them doing the conga and her not being able to see is hilarious!

I loved the Georgia Nicholson (I think I spelt that right) books. Another one of my regrets is getting rid of my Georgia books, none of my copies (apart from the later books) matched, but that's what I liked and I didn't mind about that. I've got fond memories of my mum buying me the first book along with a bookmark. I've also got good memories of me buying one of the later books in WHSmiths in Sunderland and then sitting in the Train/Metro station waiting for my Metro train and reading whilst I was waiting. I don't have many of my Anne Fine books either, current me wants to kick past me for giving away so many of my books.

I totally think things like that have aged - but - on the upside, this shows the progress we've made. I'm quite horrified now at how little we were taught at school about relationships, consent, LGBTQ+, feminism. I'm so as that the narrative is changing and that young people are talking about it now.

This serie is like the one (for adult) by Janet Evanovitch... each title has a number in the title but the story doesn't progress. Her life is on a loop... but absurds and funny... I am in my house for a while with my dog Sam, sometimes my son and an help because I live with ms. I did take a medication a month ago and yes its an immunosuppressant sooooo...
I'm dumb I guess. I was skeptical, asking at everybody what should I do... Next time I will listen to myself.
So all your video are really welcome. And I think that we share the same taste: all your recommendation that I read was really immersive and mind opening. Now I'm in the middle of Frieda Klein serie by Nicci French and it's as good as you had told. Thank you for all those clips!!! Good health I think that is the best we should wish now for each other!

We definitely talked about this after Rennison died but I think I kind of aged out and stopped reading them around book 6 or 7. I think the third one was my favourite too. I was definitely team Dave the L. Particularly the scene where he sets his hand on fire and raises it to answer a question. I also loved when her mum fancied the doctor and kept finding excuses to take her in. And all the school stuff, calling it stalag 14 and trying to get away with clear lipgloss and Vaseline as eyeshadow and makeup tricks, that was all very true to life. I was definitely into the fake French and humorous disparaging of the German language too. Oh and the Halloween when she dressed as a pimento and her dad makes her walk alongside the car. So many great scenes. I remember these books seeming like a revelation because they filled a gap which I’d only seen Girls in Love and Girls Under Pressure by Jacqueline Wilson fill until that point and those were a little maudlin. Georgia was like the cool girl / upbeat version of that.

One of my faves as a child:
'The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole' series.
Nights like these, I wish I hadn't given away all my old books.
I rewatched a couple of episodes of 'Friends', recently and noticed the same thing. The bad jokes of the kind, were part of the era. And even though you register the humour, you mostly feel like cringing.

Oh gosh, so many inappropriate jokes in that show; it ruined my rewatch last year xx

Yes, definitely. But also, I was wondering if you would like to write an old fashioned fairytale, with new symbolism toward people who are experiencing metamorphosies, because of conditions say. I believe you'd be the perfect author for it.

i am about three times too old to have read those books. I'm on the opposite half of the population, they're forcing me to go to work but i don't want to catch that thing!!!! i've seen those italian hospital videos and i want to hide for a year at least! I seriously might just not go to work. It's legal. I'll never get a job again because i won't have a reference, but fuck, there's worse things to be than alive

Aaaahahah laughing along just at the bits you read out, this is making me even more excited to reread these! (Apart from having to face the problematic bits - I definitely remember a LOT of slut-shaming which will be painful to rediscover). This was such a cosy vlog, and exactly what I needed on a particularly anxiety-ridden evening.

Bon soir my petit pal. Libs is vair hilair and tres amusant. I don't know why it's so funny when she hits Georgia over the head with her toy haggis and calls her 'Bad boy' but it is wonderful. Also adore-vous when Jas says "Gee, I may never get a boyfriend. I'm going to have to become a vet." Etc Etc. And let us not forget Sven and his trousers. "I have a bird in the hand and one in the bushes, thank you." Blimey. Mucho excitemondo for your video. xx
