- Building on the popularity of wheated bourbons in general and the markets affinity for barrel proof offerings, Heaven hill has released Larceny Barrel Proof. Similar to the strategy Heaven Hill utilizes with their Elijah Craig Barrel Proof line of multiple releases in a year, Larceny Barrel Proof will be released on an allocated basis three times per year: January, May and September. This is the first release in the new line for January 2020. Or on the bottle the A120 batch. This comes in at 123.2 proof, its non age stated but supposed to be batched with bourbons that are 6 to 8 years old, has a Mashbill of 68% Corn, 20% wheat and 12% malted barley, and retails for $50 dollars.

Great review as always my friend!! Love what your doing!! I’ve heard great things about this one and it definitely sounds like a great pour for the $50 price range!! Very consistent not super complex, but the flavors that are there are deep and rich. Sounds like a very nice wheater!! Hope I can get my hands on one soon!! Cheers Jason!!🥃
I think about 5 bottles of that came through my town, and I got 4 of them, typically around $70. I've absolutely loved it and would pay $70 all day. I recently cracked (after adventures untold and hardships uncounted) my bottle of Weller Full Proof, and (though the final judgement remains in process) I found it very similar to Larceny FP. Bring on some more, Larceny!

Great review Jason!! I was surprised when Fred Minnick reviewed the A120. He was not very complimentary. I am hoping to find this one in Virginia in March. The distribution looks like Virginia will get it and if it follows the ECBP then the A120 usually gets to the stores sometime in March.

Great review Jason and definitely agree with you! Very sweet and surprisingly drinkable for a barrel proof in this price range. Up there with EC for me personally and hope it becomes a bit easier to find. We just reviewed this as well and found it to be really nice for the price. Ok, great review as always, however, I have to say in all seriousness. Please!!! all of you guys that do highly watched bourbon reviews please please STOP comparing all this stuff to Pappy or another highly expensive bourbon. All this does is RUN THE PRICE UP and increase its allocation so it becomes no longer available except to those who can pay the extreme price tag (or get sent the bottle for free to review). I really love your reviews, except for this part.
I had only mentioned it because if an article that was written when this bottle was announced which pissed me off. In the video before I do the compare I say this is not anywhere near pappy and I didn't think it would be. I wanted to emphasize that this is NOT anywhere near that. Cheers.

Thanks for this review and comparison to the Maker's and Weller, Jason....but I would have appreciated a comparison to the original Larceny, since I've had that one but haven't had the Maker's or Weller that you compared it with. Since I found the original Larceny to only be "OK"...do you still think this one is worth a try? Or is it more for people who really like Larceny but are wanting something higher proof?
Its a lot more flavorful than the regular Larceny. Its very sweet just like the regular Larceny but way more darker and sweet. It still has the nuttiness of Larceny but more caramel and a bit of chocolate. I think you can buy this and add a couple drops of water and have a more flavorful experience than regular Larceny if the proof os too high.
I’ve been watching out for it to hit stores here. But... Illinois sucks at getting stock. $50 bucks is a great price. Definitely want to try this one. Cheers man

I'll take the ecbp all day over this. This is good but there is better batches to come I hope. I'm reviewing the larceny barrel proof B520 tommorow.
All the reputable stores that get allocated in Louisiana got like 1-3 bottles each. Just picked up 2. One for me and one to haul back for a friend. Don’t care for reg larceny but for $50 had to try

Don't think that will happen with larceny barrel proof. Not sure where this gets distributed from Heaven Hill but it will be more available than Weller with 3 releases a year. Heaven Hill products aren't usually held back like Buffalo Trace products are.

I ve been trying different bourbons lately but all I seem to pick up is strong alcohol I don’t seem to get all the candy and brown sugar taste that everyone be describing.
maybe try sipping lower alcohol proof bourbon and build up? Not sure what you're drinking but I remember drinking bourbon when I was younger and just getting the 'burn'. As I've aged and drank more it's really gotten much better. It's practice, practice, practice :-)

Really nice review, definitely a differing opinion compared to mine. I got this bottle a week ago and have been underwhelmed so far. Of the ~10 high proof bourbons I've had in the last year, this has the strongest ethanol nose/taste and the least interesting/complex flavor. I should mention I'm also not a big fan of the regular Larceny. I'm still glad a large brand is releasing an affordable barrel proof, especially the underserved wheated, so I'll have to try another batch of this in the future. I liked the Maker's Mark Cask Strength I got last summer much more than this. I can't comment on Weller since I never see it in NC.
I agree on the lack of complexity. It's very straight forward. No surprises. If your not a fan of larceny or that heaven hill flavor profile then your not going to like this. Maker's has grown on me more over the last year. glad you enjoyed the review. Always like hearing about others experiences. Cheers!
@@TheMashandDrum I actually love EW, EC, and Pikesville, Henry McKenna is hit or miss. Just finished ECBP A119 a few days ago and have thoroughly enjoyed that batch. For some reason I don't like Larceny as much as their other stuff.

Sometimes I about the marketing strategies employed by distillers. Watching this review, I was intrigued and thought I might want to pick up a bottle. A quick check online and, as expected, I can't get this. Now, I'm not out in the hinterlands. I'm in Miami, a major metropolitan area. So, how does not selling me a bottle accrue to the benefit of Heaven Hill?
Heaven Hill has been very tactful in how they release their latest offerings. Whether or not they make sense I'm still trying to figure it out. The new Rye is out available in like 4 states because they are "cocktail" forward communities? Whatever that means. Sometimes it's strategy, sometimes it's supply and sometimes it's distribution. Hopefully this will hit soon in FL. Cheers.

Markers is solid in there bottles..a barrel proof in Makers is usually quite tasty. I've only had 2 Wellers and not too particularly impressed, esp since secondary mark ups are ridiculous. Just 2 years i could get Elijah Craig Barrel Proof easily on the A B C releases, this year...nothing...online it's crazy high priced. There's too many excellent bourbons out there to go crazy or spend ridiculous money hunting bigfoot. To each their own..I'm not judging anyone..but people new to bourbon can easily get turned off ,then not enjoy the experience.

OHLQ doesn't seem to be very accurate. Many times I see something listed at a store only to get there and they don't have it.

@@paytonwoodruff3621 I am relatively new to the whole thing. Mainly just watching reviews on UA-cam and talking to employees at the stores. I am also close to Indiana and Kentucky so I get to check stores outside of Ohio.
I'm a bit afraid to spend any big dollars on Larceny, even barrel proof. Regular Larceny is vial..vile..pick one...Elijah Craig Regular is awesome, and those barrel proofs are typically great...yes, bitter is a good flavor profile for Larceny. Maybe the Barrel Proof is better but ...Its crazy high priced here in Nashville, about $125 ...not worth the risk.
Hope it makes it way to the great white north...lol

Yes, its all poor man's pappy. What I do is put a little masking tape with the word pappy!! over the label and I'm good to go. You know why? I will never know what pappy tastes like 👍

Yeah and that's the thing. The articles that were written calling this poor man's pappy before it was released really ticked me off. That's why in the video i said it's nowhere near it.

Jason, not going to lie, you are PROPOGATING the secondary prices/over allocation/Pappy problem by doing this. Wrong distillery, wrong proof, all so you can just get more views with the clickbait. We expect more of you. This helps no one. Give Larceny BP its own stage it rightfully deserves
