That Single Barrel, Barrel Proof is my new favorite!!!! It is AMAAAZING!!!
I know this is an old video, but I just purchased a bottle of the SBBP for $60, and it is unbelievable! My bottle is 130.4 proof, and it's the best bourbon I've ever consumed. It dethroned Russell's reserve single barrel in my opinion. I'm new to the bourbon adventure, but I'm done. Jack Daniels sbpb is as far as I need to go.
Just got mine yesterday in Maryland for 109 after tax
Wish they offered that Rye at Barrel proof. Now that would be the ticket. Think it happens in 2020?
I wish! Such a good point. I also wish there was more of a bite to it. It's really sweet but has a different flavor with the Lincoln county process. Cheers
I would also love a BP rye from them. I went internet sluething and found a 127 proof BP rye (pretty sure sib) from their taster collection.... but it's only sold in Tennessee. If you're in the area TW has it on their site lol
Would you look at that!???! Rye my next bottle.
The SB BP has become one of my absolute favorite high-proofers. Lately I find myself reaching for this more often than ECBP or 1792 Full.
I'm just commenting on the old number 7 after not drinking it for several years and having drink it exclusively in the past I'm very disappointed with this product I think you're spending money for a name not a quality
I finally got to try the JD SBBP. It is really awesome. I am not usually a high proof person - my staples are Maker's 46, Old Forester 1910, and WtT01. JD SBBP blew me away. I have never had the JD SB but I really do not see any reason to try it. JD SBBP is great to sip on neat and it is a flavor bomb. Low $60's price wise in NJ and worth every penny.
Never thought very highly of Jack…Until I tried the barrel proof. So good! 🤤
Jack Daniel single bottle select is the reason why I fell in love with bourbons. My absolute favorite bourbon
Have you tried going back to the no7?
The name Jack Daniels has kept me away from the barrel proof for so long. I was wrong. It's delightful.
Same here.
Same, so much time chasing allocated bottles and this one is better than many of them and always available.
Select is awesome
@@Oldlady74 on sale at Costco for 29 bucks. Makes it cheap enough to be a daily drinker.
@@joshuasteele5108 unfortunately I live in Pennsylvania and we have to go to a state store to buy hard booze ... $29 all day I would buy that ... I just got the barrel prof tonight and waiting for wife to try tonight .. if I remember I will update you buddy ....
For me. Old No.7 is for normal drinking. Single barrel Select for Occasion. Barrel Proof for holidays.
I have Frank Sinatra once a year.
On my B-day
Just tried the Total Wines JDSBS (47%). $60 in Delaware. Blinded it quickly against some other ~90proofers. It got beat but was in a virtual tie with Michters US1 Bourbon ($50 bottle in PA, $48 I think in DE)... and was well behind Elijah Craig Single Barrel ($35 in Delaware, $40 in PA) and Eagle Rare ($35 in PA)... so not a bottle I will replace; but not bad. Probably should have got the Barrel Proof instead as it seems like the much better value.
Yes, I think all JD stuff is very over priced except for the BP at $45-65. Maybe up to $70 for the BP picks, since you can find the age & it's almost always longer than the others.
I was amazed by how good the barrel proof was! I immediately picked up a couple of more bottles. Like the Rye quite a bit too.
I can’t remember the last time I had a Jack & Coke! Although I’m not going back to those days....after watching your review, I’m gonna grab a bottle of the barrel proof! Another great comparison, Jason! Cheers!!
Thanks Joe. You'll love it
I just got a bottle it drinks nothing like 131 and by far best bourbon I’ve tasted in my young career.
Damn you’re spot on with this. I think JD BP is so underrated, and for $65 it’s amazing. I’m letting the other guys chase the EC Barrel Proof and stocking these.
$34 at Total Wine
@@JohnGrove310 That might be for the 375 ml. bottle, if not Id buy every bottle on the shelf.
I bought the 750mL for $45 at Total Wine in CA last month.
@@swancakes I also live in CA and at TW the Single Barrel Barrel Proof is $55.99 and the Store Pick / Master Distillers Pick is $68.99. You might just be thinking of the Single Barrel thats 47% at that price point.
@@MichaelBSteeleAviation it is def the barrel barell proof, but it might have been on sale. TW has some great deals.
Nothing wrong with a Jack n Coke or highball by the pool! Jack started it for me back in the day. Still gets it done. Thanks for great review Jason!
Barrel Proof is definitely my favorite, followed by Single Barrel Rye, then Triple Mash.
The Barrel Proof is unlike any bourbon you can buy. I get way more maple and vanilla than the banana note that IMO is stronger in Old Forester. The most underrated whiskey in the world AND very well priced AND available everywhere.
Just got a bottle today! Barrel proof
I went out and bought it
I think the cat's out of the bag with the JDBP. After Heritage blew up, people started to take note of JDs top shelf offerings. The BEST JD IMO is the Hickory Smoked Tennessee Taster series at 100 proof. Holy shit is it delicious!? It's a North Carolina BBQ. Most "smoked" whiskey that I've had is overly smoked, but this is PERFECT and nothing like a peaty smoke. It's, sweet, it's maple, it's BBQ, it's corn, it's pork... I have seen 375mL bottles just sit on shelves at $39.99-$32.99 and I am flabbergasted. It's better than Heritage hands down.
I've had 2 of the Tennessee tasters and they were both really good. Wish I could get them more often being Tennessee exclusive.
It's nice to see somebody with lots of experience not just bashing JD. It seems like so many others do. Why? It's made like other whiskeys with an additional step. I'm not a person that drinks JD. I just think a lot of "experts" tend to bash on it and I don't get it.
So true. I like that they bash it though, makes them not drink it and keeps stocks high and prices low for the rest of us!
I absolutely live how you describe and profile whiskey in your reviews. I have looked at the JD Barrel proof on the shelf forever and never pulled the trigger, until I listened to your review. Just bought a bottle today and WOW, have I been missing out. This is an amazing bottle of whiskey. Exactly the way you describe it. Thanks for the solid review!!
Revisiting this video as I sip the SB (store pick). It and the SB BP are among my favorites these days. If you think Jack is crap, you need to try the high end stuff. It will change your opinion of Jack Daniels (it has mine).
I'm going to try the barrel proof this weekend! Does anyone have a good cigar pairing suggestion for this whiskey?
I had the JDBP in a blind flight vs ECBP A120, Stagg Jr. Batch 13, and OF 1920 and it came in dead last. I hated the JDBP, it reminded me of those disgusting yellow laffy taffies. My ranking was:
Stagg Jr. Batch 13
ECBP A120
OF 1920 (verrrrrrrry close to ECBP, such a hard time deciding here but eventually gave the edge to ECBP)

- way down here is JDBP. Maybe my bottle came from a bad barrel but god it was putrid.
I have been drinking Jack Daniels for over ten years, I loved old number 7 black label and then The Green label which I cannot find any more, Now I am a fan of Gentleman Jack and Old Number 7, I drink it On the Ice, Sorry I think mixing it with Coke is a sin. Don't do that!
Thanks for this excellent video.
One question for you, can you explain me new dude in block, what PROOF mean?!
Managed to make my JD barrel proof bottle last 2 weeks.... I already miss it. Lol
Lol. It's so damn good!
JD single barrel barrel proof is my favorite American whiskey so far.
JD #7 has kept me away from all their products for decades.
Looks like it may finally be time to try them again with the Select (NOT THE 7 😂)
THIS is the show i come to settle controversies (good vs bad bottle) + the final words : great show ! thx
Cheers Tim! Thanks for watching!
I really respect the brand, it’s just never done much for me. I’ve tried it many times and when I return to it I always get excited then after a pour I remember y I haven’t had it in awhile. Maybe if I try some of these single barrels it will do it for me! Love the reviews! I even grabbed a bottle of Old grand dad last week after the review! Keep it up!!👍🏻
THE BEST !!! I LOVE YOUR PRESENTATION !!! I ONLY WATCH YOU !!!
I know this is an older vid but I couldn't agree more. JD SB BP is delicious! I just picked up Jack Daniels Single Barrel Barrel Proof Barrel Select for the holidays. Happy 4th!
I never realized you don’t do Scotch, and that Irish whiskey does have a lot in common with the American whiskies. Especially the single pot still
JDSBBP and Wild Turkey Rare Breed are absolute Winners! For sure on my list of rebuys
People always describe jack as having a banana scent. It just smells creamy to me. No banana.
I concet Jack daniels with Glue/Alcoholic notes in my head, but i am a bit curious for the Single Barrel, what is the best the Distillery can offer.
But if Americans say its good i am still not really confident its any good, there is a lot of patriotic Bias going on.
Very Nice overview Jayson. I have had all three and enjoyed them!! My bottle of JDSBBP was a bit oak forward for me, BUT that is part of being a Single Barrel. The SBBS, I really enjoyed; Corn sweetness that I expect from a Tennessee Whiskey with just the right mixing in of oakiness. The JDSBR, I had at a tasting and I will be looking to pick up a bottle since I am exploring rye at the moment.

Tried the Single Barrel Barrel Proof at my hotel bar this evening. First time trying it. OMG, so sweet and flavorful! It is outstanding!
Just tried a glass at the pub it had an amazing nose very unique, the taste was so close to the no7 I'm wondering if the select is better, tomorrow hopefully.
My first impression on the Single Barrel Select is not great.
It’s better than No7 black label, but there isn’t any sweetness.
I just opened the bottle, so I’ll give it a week or so to open up some.
Really enjoyed this video, informative and less annoying than many videos where a lot of words but nothing interesting being said. 🎉
JDSBBP vs. Stagg jr. batch 12 blind
I do not see how people mix JD or any medium to high whiskey with soda pop of any kind. If your going to mix go buy cheap whiskey.
Can’t believe ima say this but my JDBF taste better than the Elijah Craig BP and my Stagg and believe me it hurt saying that😂
Sorry, Jason, I love your reviews but my bottle of JD single barrel is awful.
The barrel proof was really hot for me, might let it sit and open up
As it should be at 128 proof. Put a ice cube with it and you’ll be fine.
Jason, great review again. You unlike others doing reviews give such an educational and History of the spirit you are talking about. Thanks for making it so interesting.
Thanks James! Its what I love to do! cheers!
I have a bottle of JDSBBP on the way to me here in Ireland next day or so. Review to follow!
I went back to buy more and poof all gone it’s allocated in freaking Tennessee I was told by liquor store owners makes no sense
Wish I could find Herrtiage for not 500$
I keep seeing this on the shelf. I need to stop chasing unicorns and grab one of these. Need more available barrel strength unfiltered whiskeys in my bar.
You won't be dissapointed
It's not technically bourbon, right ?
Is it worth spending $100 for heritage?
100? No. I'd rather spend the 60 on BP. At 60 heritage is worth it. Not 100.
Jason another great OTS video. I was gifted the SBBP this past Christmas and I was upset it took me that long to open since I don't like Old No7. Also try blending JD SbBP with OF1920 I think you will be in for a pleasant surprise. Cheers
I love the JD Barrel Proof it's soooo Good!!!!😂
Standard No. 7 is only good for adding to Coke (but it is amazing at that!). I only recently tried the Single Barrel for the first time, and was supremely impressed. I'd like to try the Barrel Proof and compare it to ECBP, of which I am a fan and have 3 different expressions.
Agree 100% and am also a huge fan of the standard JD single barrel select and have been itching to try the barrel proof. Did you ever give it a try and how did it compare to the regular single barrel?
I haven’t had the barrel proof yet, but the single barrel select is very good. What a step up from the no. 7. Thanks for the great video.
Appreciate you man. I can always count on an accurate and interesting review with you Jason.
Thanks Blair. Appreciate the kind words.
The only JD SBs I've been able to find here in Denmark are the Select, the Rye and the BiB. The former two I haven't tried, but the latter is quite nice. And it's a clear upgrade over JD ON7 which I find impossible to stomach outside of a Jack & Coke due to its acetone character. What's weird though is that apprently JD SB BiB is supposed to be a travel retail product, but I can order it online and it's the same price as JD SB Select.
PS: Throw a JD ON7 in the freezer and use that in a Jack & Coke without ice. Best version hands down. Ice destroys carbonation due to adding a lot of nucleation sites and waters down the drink like crazy.
Thanks I may try that. Cheers.
Never tried a JD product but now I'm intrigued. How much and readily available is the barrel proof?
Pretty available. I always see it usually on shelves.
Great job Jason! I have yet to try the single barrel barrel proof. Can't believe I have tried it yet. For sure my next purchase.

Good Review! 👌🏾💀
Need HIGH PROOF!🇺🇸
Cheers! 🥃💀
You mean ….. holler…. Not hollow…. 😂
Question. If each Single Barrel Proof is run thru the Charcoal Process how do they keep it a Single Barrel? The Charcoal Filtering is like 2 floors of Charcoal. Can you explain? Loving It... Bought 1st time 10.17.23 and will purchase again. Cincinnati
All JD TN whiskeys go through the 10ft of charcoal before they are barreled. The Ryes go through 4ft. The Gentleman Jack goes through a 2nd time after aging.
What do you mean by "Baking spices" flavour?
Cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, allspice...etc
Should I try the single barrel select first or the single barrel barrel proof first?
Try the single barrel. And if you need more punch of flavor. Go barrel proof
I cant do banana flavor
I love the SB Barrel Proof.
Great review my friend!!! I've said it once and I'll say it again... Jack Daniels SBBP is one of the most underrated barrel proof's on the market. Cheers J
Dusty Dan's Whiskey Reviews I agree with you like one million percent! Cheers to that 🥃
Yes it is! I’m trying to get 4-5 bottles in my collection until it turns into the next hot thing
That JDSBBP sounds like the one to try, Jason. Thanks for the fantastic review as always! 🥃
My absolute favorite JDSBBP. can't get enough of it.
Jason have you tried Jack Daniel's Eric Church Special Edition? If you haven't you should. It knocks everything that is there & their mama's outta the park.
JD SBBP disappeared here in AZ for a few months then came back a little more expensive. It's still around $70 most places and still an amazing whiskey for the price!
A great drinking game is every time Jason says Caramel take a shot. Lol! In all honesty, love JD and love your reviews, very spot on with my flavor profile.
Lol! Totally! I definitely get alot of caramel in these. Maple too. Cheers David.
His new word is marzipan. 😂
I bought the single barrel barrel proof and wasn’t really impressed. Come to find out it’s only aged 4 years. When you do your single barrel or even barrel proof bottles you definitely want to age these. This shouldn’t be a rushed process. It’s just my opinion $60 I could of got something a lot better.
Wow the BP is unreal!! Thanks Jason I would have passe this up if I had not seen this video. I would put this up against bottles over $$$....
I tried two neat pours of JD single barrel select and Wild Turkey 101 at a bar recently, my 1st time trying both. JD single barrel select way better than Wild Turkey 101 to me. More flavor even though it’s slightly lower proof, with less alcohol burn. Worth paying $10 more for a bottle over WT 101. Kinda tastes like a lower-proof 4 roses single barrel, but with some banana-bread flavor. Now need to try the JD barrel proof version.
New subscriber from U.K. really enjoying your channel, especially these on the shelf reviews.
One of my favorite whiskys as of late
U were right, u were right. After I watched the video, I went and purchased it. As soon as the video ended. It was like warm banana nut bread. With a very light layer of Peter Pan peanut butter. It’s JD #7 on Steroids. Mmmmmgood.
Rey tagubothu 😀
Best videos, Jason. I really enjoy how you cover stuff. Excellent. The Rye really got my attention.
Great info and commentary on the Single Barrel, Barrel Proof, and the rye, thanks.
I bought a bottle of the Single Barrel Select while Christmas shopping. I truly hated it. It was a fake banana bomb on the nose and syrupy sweet. I shoved it to the back of the shelf and vowed to give it away. Then, yesterday I pulled it out when I saw this video coming on. That bottle had totally changed. The banana funk had dissipated and the sweetness calmed down. Now it has classic bourbon notes and a broader palate. It has a wonderful viscosity and this tiny mineral/vegetal note on the finish like a vague hint of Laphroaig. Good show Maestro!
Great line up! I really enjoy all three of them especially the JDSBBP!
Great review. Was hunting for the Heritage Release and gave up by settling for the Single Barrel Barrel Proof. I have been content and satisfied and have given up on the chase. Good stuff Jack!
gbcwoods try hunting for it in the summer to fall time frame, I got the local liquor store to order it from the distributor.
@@V8kerker thanks for the advice. I have been looking during the release season. The stores in my region have also reached out to their sales rep. I guess they just dont have enough clout to get a few bottles from them
Does anyone else get char mixed with a savory brown sugar on the front palate. I've never had that savory note in a bourbon before.
Some people said the the Barrel Proof is spicier than the Spicy one. Do you agree with that?
How does this compare to Wild Turkey Masters Keep?
I know it's not single barrel, but it would've been nice to see how JD #27 compares. I've liked all the SB I tried so far, but haven't had the rye yet.
My brother in law brought over a bottle of single barrel select for Christmas, now it has a permanent place on my shelf.
The JD barrel proof is one my favorite pours. It would be a great review to compare JD rye to JD single barrel rye, the proof point is close but a big difference in price.
I amazed how much I love the single barrel rye.
Just to clarify, that's not nearest Green in that picture that's his son with Jack Daniels
JD SBBP is one of my favorites. Delicious!
Just picked up a bottle of the SBBP today. Enjoying a pour of it as I watch this. Cheers and thanks for the great reviews.
Nearest Green was the one who created the blue print on what is now known as J D come on man tell the truth DAMN
