I stated with landscape artist of the year and now I am hooked on all of their shows. So beautiful and what a pleasure to be able to see all these different artists, styles and their stories.
i totally agree with the question from frank skinner, towards the end.. i think the judges fluctuate from there being a likeness to the style and imagination .. i guess what the judges look for changes , and is fluid .. love this series so much!!!
Taishan says, at 2:29, "If you want a likeness, go to Leicester Square", totally abandoning the idea the judges previously promoted, that a portrait should be a likeness of the sitter. Joan called him out for it. Lol!
It is nice to see a watercolorist in this competition. I didn't agree with their selections for finalists, I felt there were a couple others that were better executed.
The artist in the purple shirt did a fantastic job interpreting and painting John Humphries. The camera consistently panned fast past his painting and it was never really shown. The artist was completely ignored. He was one of the best of the lot. Makes one wonder if this is a competition that is “fixed.”
Because they obviously do not give a damn is the only reason I can think of. Many people have asked for the year, season or date and episode but whoever is in charge of the channel never responds. Maddening!
These judges are nuts. Who wants a portrait that doesn't look like the person being painted. Oh yes I want a painting that doesn't look like me just kind of looks like me.
That’s such an important point. To be a successful portrait artist, the sitter must be happy - or you don’t get paid. And the sitters all chose differently from the judges. So who’s right? The answer is obvious.
Frank was spot on. Likeness is an imperative ingredient in a portrait. In fact it's the most imperative as it is a "portrait" n it isn't really a portrait if there is no likeness. I think this is one of the reasons why Frank left. The judges contradict themselves n are so pompous n condescending whilst jumping from one ideal to another. Good on Joan for telling them off! And the audacity they had to say that Jessica had lost John's likeness, when she clearly had not n should have won, as she actually captured a true likeness. Yet the winner they picked had no likeness. None. He just had a background, and his painting looked like an illustration in a children's book. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but this is portrait artist of the year, not ooh let's see what they can do later artist of the year.
I wouldn't have chosen any of them. If there is potential, let them go and learn. Others who had done quite well should have been chosen to compete with them over a beginner.
With great loving respect to our great heavenly blessed FATHER, ELOHIM, JEHOVAH GOD, I, would love to be there as a heavenly blessed portrait artist who draws on paper, glass, mirrors, metal, t-shirts+,+. Chao!.🎉👨🏾🎨🧞♂️
The water color guy did good.. the proportions on the other two were way off. Masie looked like she was 40 years old and hundred pounds heavier. The colors where good but. Oh well
I can’t stop watching these shows. HELP!😵💫

I was shocked by their pick. I wouldn't have chosen any one of them.
I love to watch full episodes of all artists. I wish I could be there to make some sketches!

Hard to believe the choices that were made here!

Love these videos! So many talented people out there. Thank you for sharing.
It’s great to see these old ones again but why is the year or date always hidden??

PLEASE PLEASE tell us the season and the episode number!!!!!!!!!!

Horrible three choices. I didn't think any of them were that accomplished.

Really disagree with their selections

He looks like Kobe Bryant.

The young lady should have been there. Nonsense.
Raul was the second best. The guy in red shirt was five times better. The rest is actual horrid. These judges are blind
David is the only one that was good, the other two artists were horrible! First time ever, I didn’t agree with the judges! How did this happen?!
Your opinion, just as the judges have theirs. How did that happen? 😂😂😂😂
Most of these portraits are horrendously amateurish
Boring..... Portrait makes me yawn. No creativity.
