When you get the well dug down as much as you can and still climb out, LOL make a bamboo ladder if need be. Gather a bunch of buckets of small rocks and cover the bottom of the well with several inches of clean gravel. It will keep the silt down a bit ,

Again tip: when you sharpen your machete only put the edge on one side it will take a better edge and be thicker to hold the edge longer. Sharpening both sides makes the edge weaker and dent more and dull faster.

Remember cover that whole bottom when a proper depth is reached with clean stones and rocks to help keep silt down some. LOL also : make a square from bamboo short legs like a short table cover it with your plastic the size to cover your well hole, Four pieces of regular wood would be the best than it would be solid so nothing could get in by falling in . Any way the sun gets to shine through the plastic and the ultra violet light helps to clean the water further for you.
Tip guy: Still needs to be deeper. Use 4-2x4;s to make a square. Make a square piece of plastic the size of top use 2inch bamboo strips and nails to secure the plastic to the square cover.Should be easy to tilt up top to get water. The clear plastic will let the sun shine through and kill the bacteria in the water. Boil what you drink in your teapot to be even safer.
