Family Guy switching to hulu isn't too unusual when you think about it. On a streaming service like Hulu they can get away with more content then they couldn't with Fox not to mention they did a similar move with American Dad to TBS which is thriving right now
I 100% agree. Not only has Family Guy been bad, but American Dad and the Ted series both prove that Seth McFarlane can be a good writer, it just seems like he dosen't have the same passion for Family Guy that he did in the late 90's and early 00's.
It's clear that what's going on with the FOX Network proper is that, ever since Disney bought out 20th Century (which is legally a separate entity), they've been trying to really make a strong push into producing their own, wholly-owned-without-Disney shows (which include Krapopolis, Grimsburg, and Universal Basic Guys) - hence why they are given such blatant favoritism here and why most newer shows from 20th Century are going straight to Hulu and other such places. So yeah, don't be surprised if Family Guy does indeed migrate and other shows start to follow suit later on.
Probably for the best, Family Guy has been going downhill for a few now maybe it's time to wrap up the series entirely. Besides we got American Dad! being more superior to it anyway.

i think the moving to Hulu thing makes sense i haven't really seen all that much of the other animation domination shows except for a few ads for them but I don't think i've seen anyone use clips or parts of those shows in creative ways that maybe made their way into meme pages and gotten shared around as one of the true tests that people liked and cared about the show it's probably just a small niche that likes it and stays in their bubble and don't care who likes or dislikes the show although the higher ups probably do and might not like that these other shows aren't getting love

Disney didn't make the decision. 20th Century Animation was acquired by Disney and still produces Family Guy, but Fox Broadcast Network was not acquired during the sale of most of the assets sold to Disney. Fox Broadcasting Company is still owned by Fox Corp(The same parent organization as Fox News and Fox Sports). Disney owns the rights for the shows produced by 20th Century Animation, but Fox Corp decides which shows are renewed/aired on their broadcast networks. As long as Fox Corp orders more seasons of Family Guy and other animated series produced under 20th-century animation, Disney rakes in money. Fox ordered other animated pilots and series to see if they could get any more hits. Last year's strikes put production holds on Family Guy. This move is likely to balance out their schedule and stay ahead on animating episodes, so they can air other shows while getting Family Guy back on track with other main series. Family Guy is still Fox's number-one animated series. It gets advertisers on live TV and does well on streaming. It's a win-win for Disney and Fox. Orville is on Hulu, which Disney majority owns. Two different situations.

The shows are produced by 20th Century Animation, and other networks license the shows for their networks. If the shows got canceled, Disney would likely be able to shop the shows to other networks. It's the same as the Marvel Netflix Series. Marvel Television produced the series, and Netflix aired them in the hope of drawing in strong enough viewership to recoup their investment. Marvel still owned the IP to the shows, but had a licensing agreement. Unless stated otherwise publically, shows that are produced by other studios typically remain owned by the producing studio.

For someone whose constantly advocating for new animation, both kid and adult, Vox is really going hard here with defending tired old shows that have dominated the airwaves for decades instead of letting new shows get made. Family got cancelled and revived due to favorable DVD sales which convinced FOX to bring it back and air new episodes since 2005. If Family Guy is going to get cancelled by FOX, the attention from the audience and streaming will bring it back. Hulu is REALLY the best option for Family Guy. Times have pretty much changed from cable TV to DVD and now we are moving away from DVDs to Streaming Services. I even bought Disney+ this week to watch the new Doctor Who episodes as well as watch shows and movies that I already watch videos about previously. She-Hulk is actually quite fun in my opinion. I can now see the positives of streaming services, and you do have the option of cancelling your subscription immediately after buying it. It is basically the equivalent of buying a service and removing the auto-renewal. Yes, I even have a Nebula subscription because of Jet Lag The Game which I have been watching since Season 5 and is now already starting Season 10. Of course, if the issue with Family Guy not airing in what would be the Spring Season for me in Tassie due to the writers strike of 2023, this break time might be a GREAT way for FOX to evaluate their shows and give some of the biggest heavy hitters to services that have a dedicated audience that is already accustomed to this new form of entertainment. I am not watching my TV channels much these days, cause I spend most of that time on video gaming, watching UA-cam and of course soon to be streaming. I missed these opportunities to sit down and WATCH something as my entertainment. My dad and I used to rent out DVDs back when we had Video Stores and we copied them for our own collection. I have like big DVD folders of movies that I haven't watched in YEARS!? And in 2024, my goal is to be more confident and change my lifestyle by doing the things that I used to do as a teenager but in my adult life. I want to revisit my town library, go to parks and spend valuable time with the people around me that do care about me since I have lost both of my parents within the previous decade. I became more confident socially by being with others in the Hub sessions that Life Without Barriers provide. The pandemic and the passing of my dad ruined my confidence of being outdoors, and I wanna be able to explore my backyard and even beyond that. Confidence is a skill that you will learn in life, and I can re-learn that skill to go on walks and the adventures that I used to do on my bike as a teenager... well, minus the bike part. Isn't being an adult is being a BIG kid with responsibilities? I wanna regain my freedom and my confidence. I wanna experience the joys of life outside of my house and have fun with what's around you. I already built my identity since the pandemic years on social media and irl. I honestly don't know what my future is, but I can definitely give it a solid crack on a new chapter.

There's no way Family Guy is getting cancelled. It's the only thing on FOX's animation domination worth watching, (besides an occasional Simpsons ratings trap or THOH). The reason it moved time slots was so FOX could promote that shitty Grimsburg show and now that it fell under FG will be returning to Sundays again. The reason the show is going on hiatus is because of the writers' strike. Not poor ratings. All the shows will be doing this. Hulu giving the show two holiday specials is a sign of prosperity more than anything. Even if it does get moved to Hulu, it'd still pull in the ratings.

Simpsons bobs burgers are safe as they are very popular with articles always being made for new episodes and are more well fond of but family guy may still make money but doesnt have that factor. Not the first time this has happened and likely not going to be the last. Although with as bad as Family Guy has gotten in later seasons, having it get dropped might be the best thing yet. No show can run on forever, they all must end at some point.

I found it interesting in the Disney Simpsons special for Mother’s Day. They had those characters in the Hulu section and not the 20th Century Fox section so you might be right.
TBH i think it will move to streaming, traditional broadcasting is slowly dying and viewing habits are changing. Also I doubt that family guy will be cancelled despite it being a shell of it's former self. It still brings in millions of views through compilations and tiktoks.

Funny, the previous time this happened and FG was canceled, I was pretty devastated in 2002. Nowadays, I don't care that much, for better or worse, I'm glad there's at least more experimental stuff that isn't just FG clones of the like. As for Grimsburg, well, its probably because its a newer show and stuff like that may need time to get acclimated like how Futurama and some of early FG was. The Great North, I guess it draws in much of the Bob's Burgers audence since it's almost the same thing, granted, I do watch it even though I'm not all that interested, maybe there's something there since it's been renewed for a 5th season. As for The Simpsons, well, I think they're going for broke, because they 're gunning to reach 1,000 episodes.....but its gonna take a while since it took them 13 seasons to reach 300, and currently at 767 and each season is at least 24 eps a season, better hope nothing tragic happens to the cast inbetween now and soon to come since many of them are way past their 50s and 60s. Family guy will most likely be fine and their move to Hulu might actually improve the series instead of being stuck where they're are at, American Dad is still going as I see much of its favorably over FG.

IMO, Family Guy was at its best in the first 3 seasons (the characters were likeable, it was mature yet wholesome, and there was development going every which way), but after Season 3 (maybe 4), the characters returned as total assholes with no depth, wholesome sitcom hilarity or likability. It was just all cutscenes, Conway Twitty songs, "SHUT UP, MEG", loveless marriages, and everyone being entitled flanderized versions of themselves. And the Simpsons need to go too. They were ASS after the movie, which should've been the series finale IMHO.
For one thing, Fox isn't a cable channel, it's an antenna channel people can tune in for free using a one-time purchase of a decent/good piece of metal hooked up to the TV set, so for Disney to start putting newer Family Guy specials behind a streaming paywall might get some backlash, especially when people are now beginning to ditch pay streaming platforms in favor of free platforms and/or an antenna.
I clicked because I wanted to see whether or not you were going to share your opinion on whether or not the show needs to end. I personally don't want it to end until it gets a big send-off; something like... even a "TV movie" style Family Guy movie would be enough, if they can't greenlight it for the big screen. If I had to give an idea... maybe something that offers commentary on the long-running nature of the show, and the ways its characters have mutated; giving us some sort of common reason why the Griffins, the Pewterschmidts, and just about every major character in Quahog seems to be any combination of supernaturally idiotic, literally insane, short-sighted, arrogant, perverted to a degenerate degree, or abusive. Like... what if it's some effect of the Pawtucket Patriot beer, and the characters have to fight through their flaws to destroy the brand?

A few things. Fox still owns the Fox network. Disney owns the shows that aren't labeled "Fox Entertainment," which came after the buyout. I'd say that Fox wants to hurt Disney's shows by promoting their own, since The Simpsons and Bob's Burgers haven't had many episodes this season, had it not been for the Writer's Strike. American Dad is also being delayed for the same reason. Seth refused to have any work on his shows done until the strike was over, so they may both be a little late. Secondly, have you SEEN Family Guy this season? Holy crap. if anything proves that this show's time has come, it's this lackluster, boring season. Anyone see the Reverse Mortgages episode? In the old days, Peter would have a knockdown, drag out brawl with Tom Sellick at the end of the episode. Nope. We got their worst character, Wild West, resolve things in a very UnFamily Guy manner of gently talking everyone down. And the B-story where Brian and Stewie are like an old, retired married couple starting up a flea market stall was PATHETIC. I thought the Yacht Rock episode showed their age, but this made it feel like it was written by 60 year olds. And not particularly spry ones. Even the "epic" season finale where Brian and Stewie go off on an actual adventure to erase religion feels like it was a first draft. And that was the BEST episode. So if the show does end soon, its time has come. Its relevance faded since the last couple of decades. Meanwhile, American Dad manages to pull in banger episodes, every season being weirder than the last. The Simpsons pivoted from gag based plots to character based ones. FG just can't make that pivot. And if anything, they're pivoting to doing Airplane! Naked Gun type jokes. I stopped watching or caring and I really liked FG.
Family Guy is a very comforting show. I’m very deeply depressed and whenever I’m feeling like I am rn, I usually put family guy on. Even if it’s an episode I’ve seen a million times. That show truly means the absolute world to me and has gotten me through some really rough times.
I hope this show moves to ABC once Fox cancel it after Season 23. I think the reason why it should move is because during the 2024 midseason, it was competing with Abbott Elementary (since the reason why the move to Wednesdays got low ratings). If the 2025/2026 schedule gets released, ABC will have both Abbott Elementary and Family Guy on the same night. ABC's last adult animated sitcom they ever aired was The Goode Family created by Mike Judge.

The shows are produced by 20th Century Animation, and other networks license the shows for their networks. If the shows got canceled, Disney would likely be able to shop the shows to other networks. It's the same as the Marvel Netflix Series. Marvel Television produced the series, and Netflix aired them in the hope of drawing in strong enough viewership to recoup their investment. Marvel still owned the IP to the shows, but had a licensing agreement. Unless stated otherwise publically, shows that are produced by other studios typically remain owned by the producing studio.
I hope that doesn't happen because I still want an Family Guy/American Dad crossover episode where Stan Smith and Peter Griffin fight like in The Simpsons/Family Guy crossover episode.

Im okay with Grimsburg and Universal Basic Guys slanders but I draw a line at The Great North slander. It's such a great show made by half the Bobs Burgers crew and is our first main stream animated series with M/M gay rep airing on adult animation domination show lineup

Family got cancelled and revived due to favorable DVD sales which convinced FOX to bring it back and air new episodes since 2005. If Family Guy is going to get cancelled by FOX, the attention from the audience and streaming will bring it back. Hulu is REALLY the best option for Family Guy. Times have pretty much changed from cable TV to DVD and now we are moving away from DVDs to Streaming Services. I even bought Disney+ this week to watch the new Doctor Who episodes as well as watch shows and movies that I already watch videos about previously. She-Hulk is actually quite fun in my opinion. I can now see the positives of streaming services, and you do have the option of cancelling your subscription immediately after buying it. It is basically the equivalent of buying a service and removing the auto-renewal. Yes, I even have a Nebula subscription because of Jet Lag The Game which I have been watching since Season 5 and is now already starting Season 10.
Of course, if the issue with Family Guy not airing in what would be the Spring Season for me in Tassie due to the writers strike of 2023, this break time might be a GREAT way for FOX to evaluate their shows and give some of the biggest heavy hitters to services that have a dedicated audience that is already accustomed to this new form of entertainment. I am not watching my TV channels much these days, cause I spend most of that time on video gaming, watching UA-cam and of course soon to be streaming. I missed these opportunities to sit down and WATCH something as my entertainment. My dad and I used to rent out DVDs back when we had Video Stores and we copied them for our own collection. I have like big DVD folders of movies that I haven't watched in YEARS!? And in 2024, my goal is to be more confident and change my lifestyle by doing the things that I used to do as a teenager but in my adult life. I want to revisit my town library, go to parks and spend valuable time with the people around me that do care about me since I have lost both of my parents within the previous decade. I became more confident socially by being with others in the Hub sessions that Life Without Barriers provide. The pandemic and the passing of my dad ruined my confidence of being outdoors, and I wanna be able to explore my backyard and even beyond that. Confidence is a skill that you will learn in life, and I can re-learn that skill to go on walks and the adventures that I used to do on my bike as a teenager... well, minus the bike part. Isn't being an adult is being a BIG kid with responsibilities? I wanna regain my freedom and my confidence. I wanna experience the joys of life outside of my house and have fun with what's around you. I already built my identity since the pandemic years on social media and irl. I honestly don't know what my future is, but I can definitely give it a solid crack on a new chapter.

There's no way Family Guy is getting cancelled. It's the only thing on FOX's animation domination worth watching, (besides an occasional Simpsons ratings trap or THOH). The reason it moved time slots was so FOX could promote that shitty Grimsburg show and now that it fell under FG will be returning to Sundays again. The reason the show is going on hiatus is because of the writers' strike. Not poor ratings. All the shows will be doing this. Hulu giving the show two holiday specials is a sign of prosperity more than anything. Even if it does get moved to Hulu, it'd still pull in the ratings.

Not the first time this has happened and likely not going to be the last. Although with as bad as Family Guy has gotten in later seasons, having it get dropped might be the best thing yet. No show can run on forever, they all must end at some point.

I found it interesting in the Disney Simpsons special for Mother’s Day. They had those characters in the Hulu section and not the 20th Century Fox section so you might be right.
TBH i think it will move to streaming, traditional broadcasting is slowly dying and viewing habits are changing. Also I doubt that family guy will be cancelled despite it being a shell of it's former self. It still brings in millions of views through compilations and tiktoks.

Funny, the previous time this happened and FG was canceled, I was pretty devastated in 2002.
Nowadays, I don't care that much, for better or worse, I'm glad there's at least more experimental stuff that isn't just FG clones of the like.
As for Grimsburg, well, its probably because its a newer show and stuff like that may need time to get acclimated like how Futurama and some of early FG was.
The Great North, I guess it draws in much of the Bob's Burgers audence since it's almost the same thing, granted, I do watch it even though I'm not all that interested, maybe there's something there since it's been renewed for a 5th season.
As for The Simpsons, well, I think they're going for broke, because they 're gunning to reach 1,000 episodes.....but its gonna take a while since it took them 13 seasons to reach 300, and currently at 767 and each season is at least 24 eps a season, better hope nothing tragic happens to the cast inbetween now and soon to come since many of them are way past their 50s and 60s.
Family guy will most likely be fine and their move to Hulu might actually improve the series instead of being stuck where they're are at, American Dad is still going as I see much of its favorably over FG.

IMO, Family Guy was at its best in the first 3 seasons (the characters were likeable, it was mature yet wholesome, and there was development going every which way), but after Season 3 (maybe 4), the characters returned as total assholes with no depth, wholesome sitcom hilarity or likability. It was just all cutscenes, Conway Twitty songs, "SHUT UP, MEG", loveless marriages, and everyone being entitled flanderized versions of themselves.
And the Simpsons need to go too. They were ASS after the movie, which should've been the series finale IMHO.

For one thing, Fox isn't a cable channel, it's an antenna channel people can tune in for free using a one-time purchase of a decent/good piece of metal hooked up to the TV set, so for Disney to start putting newer Family Guy specials behind a streaming paywall might get some backlash, especially when people are now beginning to ditch pay streaming platforms in favor of free platforms and/or an antenna.

I clicked because I wanted to see whether or not you were going to share your opinion on whether or not the show needs to end. I personally don't want it to end until it gets a big send-off; something like... even a "TV movie" style Family Guy movie would be enough, if they can't greenlight it for the big screen.
If I had to give an idea... maybe something that offers commentary on the long-running nature of the show, and the ways its characters have mutated; giving us some sort of common reason why the Griffins, the Pewterschmidts, and just about every major character in Quahog seems to be any combination of supernaturally idiotic, literally insane, short-sighted, arrogant, perverted to a degenerate degree, or abusive. Like... what if it's some effect of the Pawtucket Patriot beer, and the characters have to fight through their flaws to destroy the brand?

And just as you said they could definitely recover on hulu either way. we have to make room for new animated shows some how someone has to bite the bullet ! XD
A few things.
Fox still owns the Fox network. Disney owns the shows that aren't labeled "Fox Entertainment," which came after the buyout. I'd say that Fox wants to hurt Disney's shows by promoting their own, since The Simpsons and Bob's Burgers haven't had many episodes this season, had it not been for the Writer's Strike. American Dad is also being delayed for the same reason. Seth refused to have any work on his shows done until the strike was over, so they may both be a little late. Secondly, have you SEEN Family Guy this season? Holy crap. if anything proves that this show's time has come, it's this lackluster, boring season. Anyone see the Reverse Mortgages episode? In the old days, Peter would have a knockdown, drag out brawl with Tom Sellick at the end of the episode. Nope. We got their worst character, Wild West, resolve things in a very UnFamily Guy manner of gently talking everyone down. And the B-story where Brian and Stewie are like an old, retired married couple starting up a flea market stall was PATHETIC. I thought the Yacht Rock episode showed their age, but this made it feel like it was written by 60 year olds. And not particularly spry ones. Even the "epic" season finale where Brian and Stewie go off on an actual adventure to erase religion feels like it was a first draft. And that was the BEST episode. So if the show does end soon, its time has come. Its relevance faded since the last couple of decades. Meanwhile, American Dad manages to pull in banger episodes, every season being weirder than the last. The Simpsons pivoted from gag based plots to character based ones. FG just can't make that pivot. And if anything, they're pivoting to doing Airplane! Naked Gun type jokes. I stopped watching or caring and I really liked FG.
Seth I feel would not mind ending this series to move on with other projects. This series can't go on forever.
Family Guy is a very comforting show. I’m very deeply depressed and whenever I’m feeling like I am rn, I usually put family guy on. Even if it’s an episode I’ve seen a million times. That show truly means the absolute world to me and has gotten me through some really rough times.
I would be very curious to see them do it with a uncensored family guy since it’s solely on streaming

I hope this show moves to ABC once Fox cancel it after Season 23. I think the reason why it should move is because during the 2024 midseason, it was competing with Abbott Elementary (since the reason why the move to Wednesdays got low ratings). If the 2025/2026 schedule gets released, ABC will have both Abbott Elementary and Family Guy on the same night.
ABC's last adult animated sitcom they ever aired was The Goode Family created by Mike Judge.
