St James' Park was the scene for this Premier League encounter as Southampton were the visitors in what was very much a must win game for Newcastle United.
The first half was simply appalling for the magpies. They were all over the place for 40 minutes and only got going during the last five minutes of the half. Poor formation and tactics again from Steve Bruce but we as Newcastle fans have now come to accept.
Southampton were simply excellent and deserved to actually win the game, however it look like Newcastle had stolen it in the 90th minute only to throw it all away again giving away a penalty in injury time.

Totally agree with you mate, the defence doesn’t squeeze up and leaves us totally open to the type of passing Southampton exposed us too, it’s not getting any better and the worse thing was just kicking the ball back to them, we have 0 identity other than a team that rolls over and let’s teams attack us, if it wasn’t for asm and Wilson we would be totally fecked, the astonishing thing is every single fan is shouting the same thing. Squeeze. Push out…… press and it isn’t done, starting to regret getting a season ticket if I’m totally honest it’s just gonna become a chore.

Great review and well said! I've never been more worried about relegation than I am now. We've all seen allot of bad football from Newcastle in our history but I can't remember a performance as pathetic as this one. That first half was the worst performance I've seen in a long time. I was screaming at the screen that the fans who paid to go and watch that should get their money back! We're at home vs one of the poorest teams in the league and there's no belief, there's no identity, there's no cohesion, we had no idea when we were on the ball, and we just sat back and let Southampton carve us open at will! Our gameplan seemed to be 'desperately defend defend defend then we occasionally get the ball just hoof it to ASM to hopefully dig us out the shit'. We looked a mile off being a premier league side for most of the game....and to throw a 2-1 lead in stoppage time after we just scored is disgraceful.

He has to go sooner rather than later Raymond. The football is abysmal. As for his replacement, Eddie Howe would do for me. I'm not surer Lampard would come although if he turned us around he'd become a legend up here.
I totally agree Paul, we were shocking once again and the first half was one of the worst I have ever seen if not the worst. We were very lucky to even come away with a draw and Bruce needs to go but he should have gone a long time ago!

Spot on Paul was a blatant penalty for Southampton who should of been out of site in the first half why he continues to play Ritchie and Murphy as wing backs in a back 5 is beyond me we need to revert back to 4231 and play manquillo and Lewis as full backs

If Bruce does ever get sacked, he'd only be replaced by another 'yes man'. Mike Ashley doesn't want a manager, we had one in Rafa. He wants a head coach who just takes orders. And I can't for the life of me understand 5 at the back when we don't even have wingbacks. Richie is not a wingback, he hasn't got the legs for it.
Mike Ashley is without doubt the main issue but all in all the club needs cleaned out from top to bottom.
Southampton deserved more than a point yesterday if we continue to play like that the majority of the teams in the PL will make us pay the price. We are in deep sh*t it's okay saying give Bruce 7 more games but we are seeing the same nonsense as we have from day one under Steve Bruce.

Bruce is completely unable to recognise the need for change. Every team can counter attack but it's no longer any other team's entire strategy. We can't sit back all game and keep wasting our talent up front. Wilson needed more support first half. Not his fault though because our kick and charge tactics with no midfield doesn't give our players enough time to catch up to him

Saint-Maximim's display papered over the cracks. We are too heavily reliant on him and we will start to be putting too much pressure on Willock when he should be protected and should not be used as a scapegoat for Bruce's tactical ineptitude
