I really love yals podcast! It’s like a conference for tattooists. Cloves, very interesting. People use it all the time for tooth pain.
It does actually have a slight numbing effect too. Not like Bactine but better than nothing at all!
I got a lot out of this episode. I am trying to get an apprenticeship and a prospective mentor has tasked me with various drawing tasks. The main aim of these being that I learn how to knock out high quality fundamentals that the average person in the UK wants as a tattoo. The money earners, the tattoos that keep the lights on so to speak. I was getting fed up and frustrated with not being as good as my peers but since looking at it with this new perspective of ‘don’t worry about being unique, get good and learn the foundations’ I feel back on top again. Cheers Chris and Paul for making such a great show.
Im also seeking an apprenticeship, as an older guy. I was worried about filling my portfolio with many different styles but i got some good advice. Focus on having my best drawings but focus on traditional. Which is my favorite anyway, but it shows strong fundamentals.
I think the best way to find your style is to try a little bit of everything and if there is something you are really good at or particularly enjoy, focus on promoting that stuff and that will become your style
I think the problem with the UKTTA convention was it was advertised mainly via Instagram and flyers where sent out in orders from Killerink etc. so it was advertised more to Tattoo Artists rather than the public. We went Sunday and majority of people walking around were tattoo artists. I think the points you raised are bang on

Great episode as usual! One of the best conventions I have ever worked was a one day music festival. Every artist was swamped with work and the music was killer. That was the most money I have ever made at a convention. We need more of those

The last shop i took my portfolio to said my style was too similar to their own, which was annoying. bringing in influences from other disciplines that I enjoy, is going to show I have more to offer than the 'similar' stuff as he so nicely put it 😅 thanks guys! Merci! I missed watching it this sunday because i was doing my first tattoo convention! This is a haunting topic... what the hell is my style ? I appreciate a lot your input. It helped a lot because in all my years of painting I always struggled with finding my style and it perpetuates in my tattooing. I'll keep experimenting with different things until "it comes to me". We arrived on Sunday at 3….. paid the full price to get in plus car park majority of artists were packing up to go…. Didn’t get a great vibe…. They’d run out of beer, food was pricey …. A shame really as there were Great artists there though , thought it would be one to go walk round as usually work conventions but sadly no . Poss more ents and adding on seminars for artists as well it’s a big enough place…… speaking to other artists there who said there were deffo teething issues … nowhere to eat etc when finished poss relocate to city centre ?
working the uktta convention it felt like it wasnt that busy either days, it was fun to work and they tried to put on a show but lacked alot of the fundamentals youd expect from a working it perspective, also the entertainment was the same thing both days so got repetitive pretty quick when thats all you could hear lol

I had an idea I implemented last week, Kintsugi + tattoos. And now you can just take AI + tattoo, and do an original out of it. I guess it will open up more for everyone if you are into that.
the problem with the UKTTA was the transition from INK AND IRON with free parking and tiket price of £15 to the UKTTA with tiket of £35 for one day plus £25 for parking fee and that is why people did not attend to it as you need to spend over £120 for the wekend to attend only plus food and other stuff because of where was organised you pay airport prices for parking so the place was a bad choice and the convention was empty only with the artists and traders.
Yeah, that parking fee alone sounds like deal breaker to me. - p
@@ThatTattooShow T hat was the deal breaker for me as well and that was the deal breaker for most of the people i think that is why the convention was empty, they chose the wrong place within the Birmingham airport
