      Ferayn Ironmane thank you so much for your kind comment😊 she had it for a while and her owner asked me to help since this is something I’ve done a few times. She’s a happy thriving healthy rat. It never returned. I cleaned it very well. Yes, she was so relieved after 😊😊

    Soak the scab off first, then you can see where the opening is.

      Yes. The scab will soften and lift so you will find the head without having the poke holes with a needle.

    Everyone I just want to give an update on the pet rat..... she healed great! The cyst never came back, and she’s a very happy little girl with her family ❤️ I have had many pet rats, a few of them have had these cysts, usually in the same area because it’s a hard area for them to get to to clean.

      It seemed like you got the sack out in the end, the very last piece, and that's why it didn't come back. You did a great job! Did you have any antiseptic to clean the wound afterwards?

      @@pbsimmons2303 Why? This no different than me saying that you should poison your cat or dog. It's unnecessary. Just because she's a species that is considered to be a pest doesn't mean she deserves to be treated any less than a dog or cat.

    I never said tumor, I said cyst. And that can be a result of many things, including infection. I’ve had pet rats for years and a vet would have done the same thing except charge me a ton of money. I’ve done this a few times and have never had a bad outcome. Thanks for your concern 👍🏻

    Please do not use rubbing alcohol on rats. And you'll want to prepare the site with a warm compress beforehand. I don't know if you've ever squeezed an infected cut of your own but it hurts like a mamma jamma. The rat isn't showing HUMAN SIGNS OF PAIN. That does not mean she does not feel pain. I don't know how you prepared your hands but gloves should also be used for you and your rats' sake. Squishing an infected wound or cyst may push the bacteria further down and is not recommended.

    Abscess, not cyst. But lancing and cleaning out an abscess is the correct treatment. They get them because they have rather loose skin that isn't very vascular-doesn't have a huge amount of blood flow through it, and because they prefer living communally. They climb all over each other, "and if there's an accidental scratch from another ratty's claw, it can develop into an abscess.
    I had a hairless girl who often got them, since she lacked the protection of a hair coat. I took Ms. Pink to the vet the first few times (vet waived the exam fee, but still costly visits) then asked to be trained to do it myself. My vet trained me, and I did the rest myself. You did an excellent job there, and you are so right: rats really are the most loving, licky, sweet-natured love-magnets in the entire pet trade!

    • @beaniemom1559
      @beaniemom1559  6 років тому +2

      alterego thank you so much!! Yes I absolutely love rats and would never do anything to hurt any animal. I have even taken in strays that have been injured and taken them to the vet. I really do appreciate the positive feedback. It’s nice to know how many other rat lovers there are! I’ve gotten rats for 4 of my friends lately that would never have gotten one had I not made a believer out of them lol. And they LOVE them!!!! They do not bite, they give kisses and cuddle and are great with other pets as long as you know they won’t hurt them. You should see my other video of my rat and dog playing. I have recently lost my ratty and I was devastated. And unfortunately they have a very short life span. But I always buy the feeder rats to save them and give them a chance at life 😊 thank you again!

      Beanie Mom me too.. And about 10 years ago, I did all I could to improve conditions for rats who were being kept in terrible, overcrowded, unheated, unhealthy conditions at a children's play park that kept birds of prey and snakes. The rats were food for those other animals. I called the humane society, surreptitiously took video and pictures, and even tried to get local news media involved, with no luck. The way the laws are here, rats are exempted from anti-cruelty legislation, and the news media reps told me that no one would care about rats... If it was kittens or bunnies, sure, but not rats. So I started smuggling the sickest and neediest out myself and rehoming them to people from an email list for rat owners. That lasted until my company was outbid by another, and I lost access to the site. I never stopped trying to get people interested in smacking that place with a cruelty charge though...
      I treated a ton of abscesses over the two years that I was getting the rats out of there. And even though they had never been handled kindly before, I only got bitten once. That was a mum with babies who likely thought I was trying to take the babies away. I totally understood. Rats really are amazing. They always seemed to know when I was trying to help.

    I had to do it today for our new 8 weeks old rat. She developed big cyst under neck just couple of days after bringing her home. New to rats I had no idea, thought it's tumor like hamsters get. Watched it for couple of days, she started to scratch it, luckily didn't have to use needle too hard as it already started to soak around edges. Amount of puss was unbelievable, it must have been huge relief for rat to have it out. Now just waiting for hard bit to come off, didn't want to pull,as it covers large area of skin. Hope will not have to do this procedure to often, I'm already on duty to clean our dog anal glands on regular basis ...brrr

      Steven Joseph I also have had several pet rats. And I've come across this same situation three times already in the same area. Not exactly sure why this happens. But it's something that can be treated at home instead of running them to the vet every time. Now if it comes back, or they continue to get them in other areas then I would definitely recommend taking them to a vet. This area under their neck is a hard spot for them to clean which is why it's so common. I also clean the area for them once a week with a pet wipe. This particular rat is doing great..... 😊

      순임니키 hi. Yes they are. Not all of them will get them in their lifetime, but I’ve had about 6 also and 3 have had them. This rat on the video is my friends rat. It never came back, she is doing great 😊

    Was this perhaps a cyst caused by a zymbal’s gland tumour? My rat had something *very* similar in basically the same spot and we figured out it’s from a zymbal’s gland tumour

      Daniel Vermaak I’m not exactly sure. It was very close to the surface and scabbed. Like the rattie was scratching at it. But she did really good after and lived a full life 💓

    My wife and I got a rat for our kids 1.5 weeks ago and the poor little guys has a cyst. We thought about taking him to a vet but it’s $65 just to have a check up, we were at a complete loss until this video so thank you!
    Any advice before we attempt a cyst pop? Anything we should prepare for? Will the little guy bite me when I do this?

    • @beaniemom1559
      @beaniemom1559  5 років тому

      Alex Warner thank you sir I’m so glad I could help 😊 I’ve never had any of mine bite me, I’ve done this to 3 different pet rats with no issues ever. But I would also recommend buying a bottle of animal antibiotics at a feed store. It’s a capsule that you can mix with yogurt that they love to eat. I’m not a professional or a vet or anything but this has always worked for me 😊 good luck to yal with your rattie!!

    And all that poking with a needle for it to burst somewhere else ur ment to warm compress and soften the scab and pierce the scab not her flesh

  • @minnabinna123
    @minnabinna123 2 роки тому

    It’s probably better to leave the scab be. Since now all the gross stuff is out now. Picking at the crusty scab will take the skin longer to heal and the hair grow back.

    I didnt need to make an opening because the cyst was connected to the private area, so when I squeezed It came out if his private area and it freaked me out. Luckily it was all drained out and i gave him a bath with soap and water and made sure it was empty
    Then he just mass urinated on my outfit. Gg

      No need for gloves if your hands are clean.
      Also, if this can be done safely at home, why pay a vet to do it?

    • @PiercingChild
      @PiercingChild 5 років тому +2

      My rat has an absess, I'm tempted to try this but probably won't because I wouldn't know what I'm doing and don't want to make it worse. Meanwhile, the vet charged me $230 a week ago for a visit and some meds to try, and if it doesn't work, suggested surgery which is over $600. I'm not suggesting vets are unnecessary, but IF you have the knowledge to do something like this, why not save the money a vet will charge. Plus, someone told me after my vet appt that the vet I saw tends to try to do extra things that are not needed, just to charge more money.

    • @beaniemom1559
      @beaniemom1559  5 років тому

      Melissa Tee I agree. The CDC states that rats do NOT carry diseases harmful to humans or other animals. They don’t carry rabies etc.... This was my friends pet rat who asked for my help since I’ve had this issue before with pet rats. And yes it is very costly to go to the vet when it’s something that can simply be done at home. Had it been larger or a solid type of mass I would not have done this. But basically it was like a large pimple. She did amazing after! No problems. Unfortunately she has since passed away due to her age as they have have a short life span ☹️

      They do not have to be squeaking to be in pain. If it would hurt you to be pricked repeatedly by a needle and have a cyst popped like that, then it likely hurts them just as well.
