    Ear candy. This one was from the Airzoo in Kalamazoo Michigan. I remember seeing it back in 2005. But was sold in 2008 due to the recession. That and a bearcat was sold there too. Glad to see it take the skies again!

    All. I. Can. Say. Is!.. Coolest airplane of all time! Saw it first time at the '91 EAA airshow.. The sound of those engines thundering away.. even 500 ft. up.. is positively visceral! I'm sorry this plane never got to see combat in WWII.. the sound alone would strike terror and awe into all.. it is a brute for it's size.. thanks for the great video!

    Stew Dawson’s performances with the F7F are about on par with Lefty Gardner’ s meistro “White Lightnin,” demonstrations. All of the grace and agility, but while the twin 2800’s sound is powerful, the Lightning’s collected Allison moan was awe inspiring with Gardner’s shows.

      sorry if we bought your only tigercat..... hopefully whoever bought it is taking good care of it.
      i was downright angry when the koreans took our lockheed constellation, AKA mats connie. i saw that aircraft at an airshow years ago. so incredibly majestic, the sound of 4 R3350's is unparalleled.
      i do also have an appreciation for the merlin, doesnt matter if they it's a merlin powered mustang, spitfire, or avro Lancaster (i have an appreciation for the lancaster). can you tell the difference between a packard built merlin and a merlin built by rolls royce, or do they sound exactly the same?

    So what was the F7F designed for? Was it going to be for dogfighting in the Pacific? Or all mad based defense plane of the Islands? Interception Japanese bombers?

    • @RobertGraziose
      @RobertGraziose 2 місяці тому

      The Hellcat and the Tigercat came out about the same time. The Hellcat was easy to fly compared to the Corsair and Tigercat. The Tigercat had a tricycle landing gear and carrier tests with one engine out made it not the best choice. It was designed to a fighter like the Hellcat. But the Hellcat had one engine and was easily flown by rookie piolits. We needed a proven Zero killer that could land on carriers and take a beating. The F7F saw action in Korea but only scored 2 air to air kills. 2 biplanes. But it a lovely beast. No?

  • @ebayerr
    @ebayerr 5 місяців тому +2

    Is it normal for the engines to smoke like that?

    • @RobertGraziose
      @RobertGraziose 2 місяці тому

      That is not the engines smoking. It is smoke generators, that produce smoke at air shows for effect and to make tracking easier for the spectators. The Blue Angels always use smoke generators.

  • @DeerShit01

    I think that F7F Tigercat is very, very beautiful plane. It is so beautiful that it is hard to believe that it is a work of Grumman at that time, which was characterized by its ruggedness. Besides the performance is excellent, too.
    We were really lucky as Japanese not to have to fight with it (and F8F Bearcat).

    • @hunglikeahorse120
      @hunglikeahorse120 Рік тому

      Most definitely not. I love F7 Tigercat but it’s an interceptor and the P51 is a fighter all the way. The Tigercat only wins in firepower. They are both very fast planes though.

    • @adamkramer3259
      @adamkramer3259 Рік тому +2

      @@hunglikeahorse120 the Tigercat, wins in fire power, climb rate, top speed, and ability to retain speed. A Mustang would have a very hard time besting a Tigercat 1v1.

    • @lqr824
      @lqr824 Рік тому +1

      @@adamkramer3259 The Tigercat would fight the Mustang generally the same way the Hellcat fought the Zero: separate distance, then turn and make high-speed pass and continue on. The late P-51H was basically a different airplane and had incredible climb, though, even better than the Bearcat. However, the Mustang would run out of water injection after 7 minutes then the Tigercat could certainly kill it then if it hadn't killed it already.

    • @andrewdonohue1853
      @andrewdonohue1853 Рік тому +1

      @@lqr824 in a tight turning battle, the P51 could probably out-turn the tigercat..... but the tigercat can just run away with it's greater power. 2 large engines vs 1
