- Can we truly be selfless?
Over the past century the notion of selflessness (futuwwa) and whether it is possible for human beings has been doubted, with some arguments going as far as to say it is nonsensical, immoral & unethical, a definition that has evolved negatively throughout the years.
Dr Talal Al-Azem explores Imam al-Sumami’s classic text, demonstrating how true selflessness can be defined and achieved, through Allah. By passing away lowly desires, through patience and training, these desires transform to adab - where you are no longer being selfless or selfish but rather just being with Allah, a means of achieving the highest form of futuwwa.
We are reminded to take care of the self through Allah, to remove ourselves from this false dilemma created by the modern world, to be confident as Muslims in sharing the true definition of futuwwa with humanity and most importantly that: ‘truly it is in the remembrance of God that hearts find peace’ - (Qur’an 13:28)

Beautiful! Thank you for sharing ♡
In pre modern times, chivalry was not only an idea of a culture of nobles as public servants, but a transmission of culture that the Catholic church took issue with.
The origin cultures included even the political aspects under spiritual intentions and principles.
Then any material culture or psychology applies to true religion or can be used as such for God.

Beautiful lecture, where did he get his hat I wonder?
Maybe Morocco
His Chechia hat looks like the ones made by Tuniq Oasis, an amazing clothing co-op to learn about. Its founder Iman Masmoudi got her Masters Degree from Cambridge University, and I have seen lots of these hats popping up in Cambridge area, so I don't doubt that some of them were gifts, intelligent marketing.
Jesus, the Son of God, says, "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life."
The word ‘son’ cannot be accepted literally because in the Bible, God apparently addresses many of his chosen servants as ‘son’ and ‘sons.’ The Hebrews believed God is One, and had neither wife nor children in any literal sense. Therefore, it is obvious the expression ‘son of God’ merely meant ‘Servant of God’; one who, because of faithful service, was close and dear to God as a son is to his father.
‘God is not a man’ (Numbers 23:19)
‘For I am God, and not man’ (Hosea 11:9)
And when the sixth hour was come, there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour. And at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani? which is, being interpreted, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? (Mark 15:33-34)
Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord. (Deuternomy 6:4)
