- The quality of these episodes really does crush my soul but I work with what I have. I tried giving those remastered ones a shot but the color on those is all washed out and they were watermarked so no good. Not to mention I only saw downloads for seasons 1-3 and some of 4. Watching this in "HD" makes it a little less crappy... a little. BUT IT STILL LOOKS TERRIBLE.
This song is about Faith. About 90% of Badlands is about Faith.

I love Faith. She was such a complicated character and she really did come a long way. I have to say Faith and Spike were two of my favorite characters. Both of them were the ones who changed the most.
Wesley, Cordy, and Willow... I believe changed even more however I agree Faith and Spike are my favorites too.
Faith is hands down my favorite character from Buffy and Angel to me she is the most complicated and developed character...this video is perfect for her

This is an amazing video - even if the source material (as far as the resolution/quality goes) might not be ideal, you did a great job, frankly, I think it looks awesome! And the song is just perfect for Faith!
For me Faith was always the most interesting female character on Buffy, as I found Buffy herself rather annoying and whiny at times tbh. Faith just seemed like a more realistic Slayer, and overall - even though she went downright evil for a while - also was more relatable...

+Rhowski Sadly I found no good rips of the "HD" episodes to work with. Not to mention only Buffy is in HD, its spin-off, Angel, has not been remastered so mixing those two shows would still look bad. Like in my opinion, the whole Jack thing and what was the deal with him and Tru's dad should have been added to the show sooner. Cause having so many episodes where its nothing but Tru saving people does get boring soon. Or that's what I felt when I last re-watched. Which was a while ago lol. But when I first watched it, I was a kid and thought there was absolutely nothing wrong with it:p
But it was getting better, and it sucks they couldn't even finish the second season properly.
+jess9191 I agree with you when you say it stayed the same for too long but I think that when you have a show with 22 episodes for each season you can't go too fast with the characters and the story or you might be out of ideas too soon

What's weird is that even when I knew that Buffy was right to fight Faith/put her in a coma and whatnot, I still sympathized with Faith more than I did with Buffy. Buffy was always talking about how she knew pain because she had to kill Angel that one time and so she dismissed anytime anyone else said they had emotional trauma because she assumed that she's had worse. But I could always relate to why Faith chose the dark side. Because once you make a mistake it's easier to just say you did it on purpose and keep making mistakes than to admit you were wrong and after a while you're too far gone to say you're sorry. And I don't think that was something Buffy ever understood because she was so used to people always idolizing her she never knew what it felt like to be hated and to have people feel disappointed in you and to feel like you've let people down. And while Buffy probably knew what it felt like to fear letting people down, it was different for Faith because people took one look at her and expected her to fail. And they paid no regard to what she has been through to make her so susceptible to the Mayor's influence. All in all I think that Faith was a more relatable character in terms of having an everyday internal struggle. Especially when it comes to actually coming of age.
Except Buffy did have to save lives at great physical cost, go to school and somehow maintain normalcy, just because Faith has a rougher upbringing doesn't mean it was any less painful for someone in Buffy's shoes. The point is, they BOTH felt traumatized, loss, and could't live the lives they actually wanted. When you have normalcy and lose it, it still causes grief. I believe they made that point well when both of these young women reunited in the end. Faith kind of wants to corrupt people in the beginning to force others to experience her pain. That's psychotic, I can't relate to that at any stage. But as it is a tv show, they redeemed her and she stood at the gang's side again to be the person she could have been. It's unlikely anyone who's caused others so much grief truly feels sorrow for another being in their later stages.
IRL, people just tend to have an aggrandized sense of self, bully, or play alpha headgames with others to deflect from insecurities or their home issues... but it's still quite unrelatable for those of us who don't want any drama from someone like that... lead our lives with balance. Faith didn't just fail, she *lashed* out and expected/desired the others to deal with her demons too! These people weren't even her best friends, they were new to her... so IMO, she's far more diabolical than you're giving her credit for her here... Other people's lives matter too, everyone* has baggage... there is no measurement scale for what happens to any of us. We all lose those we love, and those of us whom did experience love, LOSS is a BIG deal! Faith just kind of wanted to set fire to their happiness... they even implicitly say that in the show. I don't think it had to do with being a disappointment. She was also violent, verbally abusive, and narcissistically self-important when she arrived. What you stated implies she was without lacking self-awareness, yet she exhibits quite the self-awareness - she fed upon the pain of others. Usually that's a borderline psycho, and IMO, most of us don't need to hear the backstory to such people. Pain or no pain, at some point, we're going to think that person is just going to add to our own life experiences in a negative way - hence abusive personality. But the actress, I felt she was right for the role - she doesn't come across as the character at all - which was her saving grace - people liked her all the while. On the reverse, I can't say the same for Sarah Gellar.
bell lab Buffy grew up with people who not only loved her but tought her how to deal with problems emotionally. That's the big difference between her and Faith.
Actually, Buffy's father ditched her, and she burned down a school w/much motherly criticism - keeping hidden side... I would imagine she could have overstepped in some way... and she did take out her anger on a character or two. I think the point is, emotionally instability doesn't necessarily lead to violent behavior. I think you are largely discrediting emotionally abused and/or neglected people as dangerous and putting them in the same category. Someone like Faith is ordinarily a psychopath. But it's a tv show so.. they wrote it like she suddenly awoke w/remorse. That's doesn't happen w/psychopaths/homicidal anti-social persons.
I am not grouping people into the same category. We were discussing two fictional characters and I pointed out a difference between them that might explain their differences in ability when it comes to dealing with life and problems; I did not say that all people who grow up "like" Faith will end up like Faith.
joss showed her in some ways to make you sympathize her. Buffy was confronted by her closest friends about how she thought she was better than everyone else in season 7
She was, probably, the best thing on both shows. She was so epic and badass! Eliza did an amazing job in portraying this character.
