Yeah statistically the defense underperformed 19 points in the SB. Really the coaches fault. Manning’s pick six didn’t help either but we should remember he also had a TD and 333 yards

@@thomaskant4538 Manning was put into positions during that game that he never should have been in. From sitting for 58 straight minutes because of a defense that couldn't get off the field without Freeney, to the onside kick, to Garcon and Collie dropping wide open passes on 3rd downs... Really the Colts should have been up 17-3 at half and then virtually run away with it.

Man I miss this era of Colts teams, and just the NFL in general. At this time it was a perfect mixture of offense to defense, nowadays defense can't even breathe on an offensive player without it being a 15yrd penalty.

Peyton Manning really is the GOAT...
Colts had just lost tony dungy and Marvin Harrison after the 2008 season and the next year Colts go 14-2 which could have easily 16-0 if Jim Cardwell didn’t sit the Colts starters for the final 2 games. What other quarterbacks going to the super bowl without his super bowl winning head coach ??

The ignorance in this comment is hilarious and sad at the same time.
First of all, it's Jim Caldwell. Take your "L" and sit down
Second, they weren't benched for the last 2 games. Starters played like 3 quarters in the 15th game of the season against the Jets, and the Colts had like a 12 point lead going into the 4th, and Jets came back and won. Next game, Colts starters played 1 series in Buffalo (in snow) and then were benched to avoid injury.
To add to that, Tony Dungy retired in 2008, basically gifting Jim Caldwell his roster. They were going to the Super Bowl no matter who was head coach. That is the exact reason Jon Gruden is overrated. Dungy left the Buccaneers after 2001, guess what? Gruden comes in, with Dungy's roster, and wins the Super Bowl.
Are you like 13 years old? You need to get your facts straight.

A few weeks later the colts draft Austin Collie! I'm completely digging that! And Austin didn't disappoint. The real irony was that two years later my German Shepherd, Austin died and Austin Collie's career was cut short because of concussions! That was almost surreal! 2008-2010 may have been Peyton Manning’s best 3 season stretch. Those teams probably should’ve won 12-13 games combined those 3 seasons, despite having a League Average defense that had a great pass rush but was also always amongst the NFL’s worst against the run & the Colts were dead last in rushing offense over that timeframe. Despite all of that, they ended up winning 36 games in the Regular Season and going to a SB in 2009. (That 2009 team “coincidentally” had the best defense of the 3 teams.)
Peyton Manning had 16 game-winning drives in those 3 seasons. The 2010 Colts & the 2011 Colts had basically identical rosters at every position, & actually upgraded at Left Tackle, except QB. That’s how good Peyton Manning was in his prime. This version of him would’ve had 70+ TD passes w/ that 2013 Broncos team, instead of “just” 55.

The first time Bama and Clemson met for the NCAA Championship the Tide had to resort to gimmickery. They won. The next year the two teams were pretty even and nobody used gimmickery. Then last year, Saban tried numerous tricks and Clemson was just far superior. Then this year, Clemson had to try gimmickery because LSU was stacked on offense! The onside recovery and a hampered Freeney really killed the Colts. In fact, if Payton (coach) had know n how ineffective Freeney would be in the 2nd half, he might not have even attempted that onside kick.

Peyton played with Marshall Faulk, Edgerrin James, Joseph Addai and Donald Brown were both good backs, especially considering that teams were getting away from straight hand offs by that time. Addai was the best of both worlds, a tough runner and a great receiver! They had plenty of greatness on defense. They had the worst defensive schemes and were so predictable.

2009 was Peyton Manning’s Best Season after his two Record-Setting Seasons in 2004 & 2013 IMO. That was not a 14-2 team. A few things go differently in a lot of those games & the Colts would’ve been a 5-7 Win team instead of a 14 Win team. The 2009 Colts got the best out of their star guys and a few overachievers (Jerraud Powers, Melvin Bullitt) but otherwise were just a 7-9 team made great by Manning & the passing game & a great pass rush to go along w/ great Red Zone Defense.
The Running Game in 2009 was non-existent. The fact that Addai got 838 yards & 10 TDs behind that line speaks to his ability to make the 1st guy miss. We could’ve had a solid Run Game Post-2006 if the O-Line could’ve blocked more effectively. Addai wasn’t the issue.

Man, what a receiving core. The Colts should've re-signed Garcon. He should still be a Colt! And its so sad about Collie's concussions.

I remember thinking, back in the day, that Peyton was blessed with great receivers. With Harrison, then Wayne, and Stokely. Even Dilger and Pollard were good. Then Harrison was gone and Garcon came along. Gonzo and Collie were good. Dallas Clark. In retrospect, it just didn't matter who the receivers were Peyton would find them. So, although he did have some great receivers, he could make any receiver look good! Except, maybe, Hank Baskett! ;o)

It's amazing how easy the offense made this kind of production look. We as fans really had it great with this era of Colts teams.

No matter what people say, Peyton Manning is and always has been better than Brady. Miss that dude, but at least he still does good commercials

Wyatt Metheny I love manning he’s my fav but Brady is better I know I hate to say this but what makes Brady the better player is he’s clutch in the super bowl and I’m a colts fan and Manning is my favorite player

Well, Tom Brady's in a league of his own! He throws for TD's, runs for TD's, catches TD's, leads his team in tackles, sacks and defensive INT's! He does it all, except kick field goals! If you have Tom Brady, all you need is him and a good field goal kicker! ;o)

Man, you guys had some weapons on offense during the Peyton Manning era. TBH, as amazing as the 2013 Broncos offense was, I will always hold the Peyton Manning Colts offense in higher regard.

Man I was 8 years old when my team drafted Peyton. after 13(14) seasons, seeing my childhood icon go to another team literally broke me. Im assuming youre a broncos fan, but its always nice seeing a broncos fan acknowledge the real peyton,. No offense, but the broncos rented him. Same with brady and the bucs, unitas chargers, montana chiefs, etc. Most broncos fans want to claim him.
