+Daniel Antony Um...wait, are you talking about Rainbow Blaze? That's not my personal claim, it's the consensus of the fandom in general since his first appearance in Games Ponies Play in season 3 (I said season 1 or 2 earlier, I was wrong). He appeared in a flashback scene where filly Rainbow Dash was sitting on his head when the announcement came for where the Equestria Games would be hosted that year. As for the appearance of age, remember that even Twilight's parents didn't really look any older in the S6 premiere than they did in the flashback scene where filly Twilight was trying to pass the entrance exam to Celestia's magic school for gifted unicorns.
Luna truly stole the show with her scene. I just loved the atmosphere her song created. All of the songs were great, but "Luna's Future" is definitely my favorite.
11:11 The proper title is 'A Christmas Carol'. A great book written by Charles Dickens in 1843. A true genius that Dickens. Bart: Yeah, and television's been milking that goat for years.
+The Lightning Brony Because in that one episode when Sweetie Belle made that burned food it was for when there parents when they were visiting from Canterlot.
This was a really good episode, the songs were enjoyable, and its funny seeing an MLP version of the Christmas Carol, and I know it wasn't really Applejack but I think she looked adorable with her mane done up in pigtails, nice reaction.
I love this episode for the reason that it is a basic retelling of Starlight's Villain Arc. As a young filly, both had an idea of positivity, though ruined by a life changing event (Sunburst leaves Starlight after he got his Cutie Mark, as Snowfall was reminded by her teacher of a "better" choice). Both still had a good intent for Equestria despite doing it the wrong way (Starlight with Equality, and Snowfall with Urbanization). Both uses a Spell to try to "fix the problem" despite their spell will lead to a catastrophic result (Starlight's Modified Time Travel spell, and Snowfall's Spell for stopping Hearths Warming). Both faced with their past, present and future, and a way to fixed them. (Starlight and Twilight explore The Past, The Present and many dangerous futures, Snowfall is shown the true meaning of Hearths Warming by The Spirits of the Past, The Present, and the Future). At the end of the day, this is one of the best episodes of the show. The Story, Songs, The Lesson, and the Analogy of it all. 9.6/10
Alright then! still listening through your afterthoughts, but might as well begin putting it down while listening: first off, another small family rewatch bonus--if you pay attention in the finale/reprise song in the end, you can see Pound Cake and Pumpkin Cake singing along with everyone as well, which means the little tykes are growing up more! figured you would like to spot that next time. moving on, I think what I love more than real catchy musical episodes or character - centric episodes is episodes that allow some bit of worldbuilding, even if it's through a storyframe. for one, the Windigoes and how the holiday still keeps them away. through Luna's particular song, and remembering what went down that episode, it makes a whole lot of sense for it to really important, if not for the moral and good cheer it spreads. Equestria is a land with magic that depends on balance, hope, harmony (forgive the pun there) and positive energies, and if the removal of a holiday that is to represent how strong said balance/harmony is against the more chaotic, bitter, negative energies that threaten it happens could mean a whole lot of trouble. I know it could just be a flair/flourish that the author of the story added, but I wouldn't doubt that it would happen for real in Equestria if somepony had no idea the significance the holiday had, attempted to remove said holiday from history or just try to stop it. also, Luna's representation in the story. now, while it is common for Christmas Carol homages to have different characters from a series represent the three spirits, usually the spirit of the future is mostly unrepresented (I stress mostly that there are some similar Christmas specials that do give a character a role as the spirit of the future, like this one and the Disney take on Christmas Carol with Pete), mainly because the spirit of the future is a silent, show and not tell type, mainly because they're based on the Grim Reaper, the Herald of ultimate fate (be it death or otherwise). now, it could be just the framing of the story, but it strikes me that it could be the author's choice and Luna is the Spirit of Hearth's warming yet to come on purpose, probably because that perhaps artist/creative - type ponies back then (either during her banishment, or maybe before) may have interpreted Luna as a symbol of Fate and Destiny itself in their works--she is what greets you at a very important choice, for better or worse. it can be seen either way by that meaning--whether she was benign and doing her duty or perhaps cold and antagonistic, kind of akin to how ponies see her compared to Nightmare Moon. or I could just be overly speculating, but it's just me, and I just found that kind of cool. also, I noticed in that role that while she does have her normal princess -y appearance, that height of hers may be at a similar, if not taller, height to Nightmare Moon. that being said, what was your favorite song out of this pick? Pinkie ' s song was really good, mainly because it had that nostalgic Broadway musical sound to it (being a girl who grew up with knowledge and listening to musicals here...) and I just love how quirky and upbeat it was. I definitely love Luna's song too--I'm a sucker for dramatically dark songs. Applejack ' s is pretty good, but it I just couldn't get into it like the others. definitely not going to knock it, though, since it's still pleasant.
+Webs SOTE Wow, some really good thoughts here. There was no way my sleep-deprived brain could have gone this deep, just glad I caught as many of the easter eggs in the background as I did. Speaking of that, WHOA, completely missed Pound and Pumpkin Cake singing! That is huge! Of course you could argue they were just babbling baby talk, but they looked like they were in perfect sync with the music. Really hope they get some speaking lines the next time they appear! As for the spirit of Christmas future, you're right about it being usually a cloaked figure that's never revealed. I knew something was bugging me in the back of my brain about that, and that was it. Still, like you said, it's a creative interpretation, and I think it worked quite well. I think given the scenario being presented, it needed some verbal explanation, as that went quite a bit off track from the original Christmas Carol story. Also, I think Luna was the perfect character to use, because of the mistakes she herself has made in the past, and because she already has the role of entering others' dreams to help them work through problems. She didn't strike me as a Nightmare Moon character at all though. This was actually a side of Luna I've really been wanting to see, and it was AWESOME, though I still want to see the light-hearted side of her as well. And yeah, the idea that losing the holiday would literally mean the end of the world may have been a bit much, but I think it's a good metaphor. If we as humans were to lose all sense of family, friendship, and community, I think we would go insane and probably launch all-out wars (as if we didn't have enough of those already) and doom ourselves. Or at the very least, we would do nothing but live a miserable, meaningless existence, which may as well be the end of the world, for all practical purposes. I think you get what I mean.
+Webs SOTE Oh, sorry, songs. Don't really have a favorite song yet. My brain was too tired to really absorb then, and I only got about 8 hours of sleep over the last couple nights, so I was struggling just to get this done and uploaded. Got a nap this afternoon, which is why I'm even responding right now, but I'm also working on getting my 1k special encoded and uploaded. Hope to have it uploaded and published before midnight. Anyway, I will be listening to the songs again for sure, and I'm sure I'll pick a favorite soon enough.
+Webs SOTE FYI, I've been listening to the songs again, and I have to say that my initial feeling has held true, in that Luna's Future was the best. Pinkie's Present was a very close second though, very upbeat and cheerful, and still had a great message.
Hmm, don't know that I'd call that a fourth wall break. It was just convenient timing, by design of course. Spike has been known to break the fourth wall before though.
I know this episode was a long time before season 9 however the outfit Applejack is wearing right here is the same outfit she wears on Big Mac's wedding day. It's just designed a little differently so you can't tell 😂
I know this is an older video but does it bug anyone else that the tap dancing in this episode is so much better than in the episode actually about tap dancing
So it seems almost like friendship is a religion to ponies. Rather than talking about how it's a celebration of friendship, and how all her friends will miss her, Twilight gives her a fire and brimstone sermon about how if she doesn’t join back with the herd, the horse demons will come for them all.
Idk if it was intentional but Twilight imitating Pinkie's voice could be a pretty subtle meta joke; Tara was originally going to audition for Pinkie when the show was starting.

My favorite song from this is Apple Jacks seeds of the past it’s really beautiful
I love the song it's my favorite applejack song
Great reaction! I really enjoyed all of the songs.
17:47, this is why I fully support TwiPie!!!
You're the first reactor, I've seen, who reacted to the Sherlock and Watson :-P And also Moriarty
It's "All work and no play make Jack a dull boy."
Twilight's Pinkie Pie voice is adorable
I swear the musical numbers take up more than half of this episode
Seriously reminds me of Severus Snape
The parallels with Starlight just hit me 7 years later
17:40 Im laugh so hard the new ship sound 😂😂
That pony reminds me SO much of Pro. Snape Harry potter reference
It is!
Luna's song is the best part of this episode. This is amazing episode. I love it.
AG: Everyone's there! Even Rainbow Dash's dad!!!!!!
Me: Well, minus Discord.
29:57 Am I the only one who remembered the scene in Bad Seed where the CMC were over at Sweetie Belle's house and her dad was outside fishing?
I love the fact that they change Starlight hair back to evil Starlight
13:35 - Yes, I think it is a Snape reference.
Oh Gods, I totally missed 11's appearance. That's awesome!😸
That Luna song... I can't even express how awesome it is!
This is my favourite episode! :3
Like on mlp XD
Luna truly stole the show with her scene. I just loved the atmosphere her song created. All of the songs were great, but "Luna's Future" is definitely my favorite.
+Talia Kirana After listening to the songs again, I have to agree that Luna's Future was the best, though Pinkie's Present is a very close second.
when there are good songs and then there is a luna song, chills as hell xD
19:57 ooh! Cold chills alert!
+Apple Joy Yes, she did! The episode went by so fast, and there was so much in it, I keep picking up more and more details every time I re-watch it.
This I think has to be one of my favorite episodes
I love this episode for the reason that it is a basic retelling of Starlight's Villain Arc.
As a young filly, both had an idea of positivity, though ruined by a life changing event (Sunburst leaves Starlight after he got his Cutie Mark, as Snowfall was reminded by her teacher of a "better" choice).
Both still had a good intent for Equestria despite doing it the wrong way (Starlight with Equality, and Snowfall with Urbanization).
Both uses a Spell to try to "fix the problem" despite their spell will lead to a catastrophic result
(Starlight's Modified Time Travel spell, and Snowfall's Spell for stopping Hearths Warming).
If you count the reprise as a song, there are 6 songs in This episode. Now i just cant help think What would have happened if This was a 2 parter!
Professor Flintheart made me think of Snape too!
I think it was confirmed inspiration from him.
Hahaha! That intro never gets old! I love it!
Glad you're enjoying it. :)
I get this feeling Starlight didn't want to celebrate the holidays is probably it's a reminder of being alone during it for who knows how many years.
10:30/10:32-10:42
12:33🥹
13:24/ 13:28-13:29😅
25:20-25:27 Relatable
Alright then! still listening through your afterthoughts, but might as well begin putting it down while listening:
first off, another small family rewatch bonus--if you pay attention in the finale/reprise song in the end, you can see Pound Cake and Pumpkin Cake singing along with everyone as well, which means the little tykes are growing up more! figured you would like to spot that next time.
moving on, I think what I love more than real catchy musical episodes or character - centric episodes is episodes that allow some bit of worldbuilding, even if it's through a storyframe. for one, the Windigoes and how the holiday still keeps them away. through Luna's particular song, and remembering what went down that episode, it makes a whole lot of sense for it to really important, if not for the moral and good cheer it spreads.
I liked how they time the candy cane dropping out of the box lol XD
+LPS Gaming Me too that's great timing. XD.
Happy Hearthswarming everypony!
FYI ‘The Scrooge Story’ is called A Christmas Carol, and to anyone here who likes reading, I reccomend!
Even as a non brony I give this episode a 10/10. I love a Christmas carol. Btw Luna's song was great.
18:05 Did you not notice how Spike broke 4th wall with his coco refill break? That was the point where they ran commercials!
Hmm, don't know that I'd call that a fourth wall break. It was just convenient timing, by design of course. Spike has been known to break the fourth wall before though.
Uh-oh looks like we have a Grinch on our hands😮😮😮😮😮
OMG 4:50 THE BLUE CHAIR IN THE TOP LEFT CORNER ROCKS
16:32 I just wish that he noticed that featherweight was actually Tiny Tim. Ok, he noticed it. nvm.
I know this episode was a long time before season 9 however the outfit Applejack is wearing right here is the same outfit she wears on Big Mac's wedding day. It's just designed a little differently so you can't tell 😂
4:24 OH NO! IT’S CHRISTMAS WITH THE KRANKS ALL OVER AGAIN! •SCREAM•
I like that every time starlight is evil her hair changes
I know this is an older video but does it bug anyone else that the tap dancing in this episode is so much better than in the episode actually about tap dancing
One of my all time favorite episodes in all of mlp!!
Yeah this was a good Ep, I even took Luna's song to memory! Btw my idea for RD's mom, she's the Gen3 RD.
LOVE THE SONG APPLE JACK DID PRETTY GOODS RIGHT 😊
+kechy72patto oh that song it probably tied with pinkies for my favorite this episode
So it seems almost like friendship is a religion to ponies. Rather than talking about how it's a celebration of friendship, and how all her friends will miss her, Twilight gives her a fire and brimstone sermon about how if she doesn’t join back with the herd, the horse demons will come for them all.
