    I have ADD and this happens to me all the time. Not paying attention and concentrating on what I am doing. So I'm with you, not a problem for me. You are doing a fantastic job explaining this procedure. Many thanks for your effort.

    That was a very good and clear explanation of ILS approach. You may have been slightly distracted because you were narrating and creating a video while doing all the ILS stuff. Thanks for this tutorial on ILS approach. Excellent!

    I flew the twin beechcraft yesterday for grins for a couple hundred mile trip and the autopilot worked flawlessly wheels on the runway at touchdown. I normally assume control way before this point but wanted to see if the AP kicked out at touchdown -- it did not! It was beautiful watching autopilot full approach work as designed!!!

    Good refresher. I learned ILS long ago in FSX, and this is no different. However, FSX screwed me SO bad on Autopilot use. I now use Xplane 11 and had to start nearly from scratch!

    This was actually one of the better explanations that I have seem or heard regarding distinguishing usinng GPS and VLOC glideslope!

      Glide you enjoyed it! I have newer tutorials on ILS, VOR, and RNAV approaches that may help you dig deeper into the subject!

    I was watching the altimeter getting lower and thinking, mmm, he's def going to go below 2200, hehe. You're a smart cookie telling troops not to bag you lol, saved doing a re-run and edit. Nice one!!

    Most of my learning has been on the "X1000" so far and this was still very helpful in learning the basics. Thanks!

    This was very helpful, thanks! I'd like to see an approach / landing tutorial that describes all of the best practices for beginners, which also utilizes ILS and AP, ideally in the stock Cessna 172S, bc the AP is now updated..

    Thank you, lovely video - everything’s so peaceful, particularly watching the flight. The only thing’s I struggled with the brightness on the readings....

    Very informational and specific. I have PREPAR3D V4, but this video works for me because all flight instruments work the same.

      Cool deal! Yeah, an aircraft is an aircraft, doesn't matter what simulator you are running!

    When you input the radio frequency into the radios, aren't you also supposed to dial in the runway course into the Nav 1 dial? That's on the approach plate next to the radio frequency, right? Great tutorial, btw...

    I seem to have just a precision approaches shooting RNAV approaches. Did I hear you say that you typically flew the distance to the approach using the HDG bug and fly in vector fashion instead of using GPS in your autopilot to fly the distance to the airport approach?

    • @MicahMesser
      @MicahMesser  Рік тому

      Depends on the approach. If I am offline, yeah, I usually self-vector but IRL you would fly the published IAF and procedure turn if applicable to the approach.

    Im a beginner. When i have auto pilot airplane went down not up what i mean is it losed altitude even tho the speed is ok. Also do i have to use ils everytime i land. I like it more manually and control how i want.

    • @MicahMesser
      @MicahMesser  Рік тому

      What was the MCP altitude set to? No, you do not have to use ILS every time. You can fly visual, use RNP, RNAV, or any other approach type. ILS is a very common approach to use in airliners in the United States, however.

    you the best , i loved cessna since i knew how it works , well in x plane mobile , when i hit A/P and nav , and want it to follow gps , it doesnt .

      Also make sure you don't intercept the glideslope at Too High an altitude. You'll blow right through it and it will ignore.

    Hey Micah... that doesn't look like the vanilla C172. Would you mine sharing which one you're flying, and where to download it from? I'm cool with payware.

    Very good video, but Ive a curious scenario (at least for me)
    Say Im flying steam gauges and OBS (No GPS on board) and Im looking to make an ILS into an airport that has no LOC or ILS frequencies, just GPS. How/what frequencies do I look for on the plate that'll get me on the ground in IFR conditions? Sorry if its a silly question. Ive already trained with GPS units (ie) G430, G530, as well as the G1000, and GTN750. Glass cockpits are awesome, but as a pilot, you need the basics, no matter what, and Im looking to work on those skills. TIA.

    • @MicahMesser
      @MicahMesser  4 роки тому

      If you have no GPS, only radios, then the airport has to have some type of radio approach; whether the approach is ILS, VOR, VOR ARC, something. Otherwise, there isn't a way to have a navigational aid to get you down. You ultimately have the old-fashion method of using a clock and your airspeed to determine where you are.

    Great video! The only thing I'm not sure on is -- Did you adjust/tune your CDI prior to the start of the video? And how did you know what to set it to?

    • @hankeilts3931
      @hankeilts3931 4 роки тому

      For tuning into a VOR, you need to set the Omni Bearing Selector (OBS). For ILS localizers, the OBS is electrically inop because of the way the localizer receiver functions. Most instructors recommend setting the OBS to the inbound track as a reminder of that to the pilot, but doing so does nothing to affect the needle deflection.

    • @PetersPianoShoppe
      @PetersPianoShoppe 3 роки тому

      @@hankeilts3931 Thank you for that info, Hank. That answered my question, which was why his OBS wasn’t dialed into the runway/loc heading.

    You land at 34R, APR CRS is 344 and the NAV1 dial is at N+20 deg? About 40 deg off direction... Please explain. Thank you.

    • @MicahMesser
      @MicahMesser  Рік тому

      ILS does not require you to turn the OBS to the course; unlike, say an airline which has a different type of system.
