Ive for a curvy that’s been standing for more years than I’d like to admit. This is pure gold.. just what I was looking for. Thank you for sharing your knowledge ❤
Nice, thats an impressive mileage! Does your engine use any oil? If yes how much? Mine has 45,000km and I have to refill 100ml every 2000km's. I'm not sure whether it's normal or a problem.
@Kartoffel Brot What Philipp said. But before you open up the engine, try to torque down all of the engine bolts to see if it helps. Because once you open up the engine, it's a pain in the butt to replace the gaskets and get things clean up.
Wow,you make it look so easy.Nice to see the innards of this reliable, strong v-twin. Even if I did manage to take it apart, putting it back together & expecting it to work wouldn't happen.Great vid.mate,thanks.
I actually cross threaded my cam shaft holders when changing my valve cover gasket. I have another engine so happy to see its actually a easy swap of the two.

Thanks for this. I’m Getting ready to check the valve clearances in my gen 1 650 vstrom. This was very clear. Hopefully the clearances will be in spec and I won’t need to remove the cams. Can I check the clearances without removing the cam holders? That would be sweet.
Got a dumb question, Changed oil and in my haste blanked out the fill spout on the right side and instead filled on the left stator cover where you can view the timing marks. I ended up putting 2qts on the left side and 0.9 on the right, I have not started it yet but will that be enough oil to circulate back into the normal fill or should I full drain and fill in the correct right side? Thanks **Update - It finally flowed into the reservoir just took a good 24 hours, was fairly sure the crank had a channel to allow the flow just was odd it took that long
If you start your bike with a non functioning rectifier you can fry the electrics as the voltage will not be rectified (stable dc voltage) so it could be say 30 volts AC going into all the electrics which will kill them. If the problem is your bike won't start then more information is needed, does the engine spin over? Is there a spark at the spark plug? Is fuel getting into the cylinder head ?
Very similar engine structure the first few generations. After moving to fuel injection in later model the timing on rotor changed but most likely the same apart from that
Thanks for the video! Great job on the explanation of things. I have a question, it looks like I have an oil leak at the very bottom of the front cylinder head, do I have to disassemble the entire head to take it off and replace the gasket? Thanks in advance!
Is there any difference between the 1 gen(99-02) and 2gen(03-15 I think) besides that the 1 gen have a caburator and the 2gen has FI? And what gen is the motorcycle you are showing?
Yeah I'd say that is doable if the tank is taken off but consult the suzuki service manual or the Haynes manual to be sure. There may be some bolts that are hard to get at with engine still in the bike
I bought this bike as my first bike - it's already 23 years old, with 37,000 km on the odometer. everything is fine except for a slight noise in gear no. 6, but only when under load. something like a rustling chain. Is this a sign of worn gears in gear 6?
that crank is either cast or forged, you mentioned you could remove the weight or throws from the crank HUH? i am not familiar with japan suzuki engines but this is not possible or is it? Anyone
Just bought this bike. How great to find a video like this! Nice job!
Absolutely fantastic video. I have the 650 V Strom and had no idea about what was what so this has been an enormous help, thank you 👍👍👍👍

I've had a '99 curvy SV650S for two years now after a break from riding. It's a great bike, hard to beat for value for money.
great video, simple and efficient motor that I run 120,000km on it and runs like new

@@kartoffelbrot3199 mine has 40k and doesnt burn any oil. This seems like a seal issue somewhere and i didnt have the problem with mine yet

That is a great video, just talent no fancy tools

Hi from Dublin
Great video.👍☘️🇮🇪
I just don't understand why you don't have the subs you deserve. Lots of love from India, keep it coming and your channel is a simple treasure trove.
Thank you very much, now I know much better my SV650!
Never knew there was an in built oil strainer 👍 I don't think I have seen anyone take out that bolt to clean out 2:29:00
Thanks for the work mate. Greetings from Barcelona.
I actually cross threaded my cam shaft holders when changing my valve cover gasket. I have another engine so happy to see its actually a easy swap of the two.
Great video and very informative, well done mate.
Thanks for the video. It's good to know what you're riding on :)
Good job. Excelent your video. Very practice. Thanks.

Thank you I found it very enjoyable to watch. I use the same brand of rotating table. when i do Maintenace.
this was perfect for me. i tried to start my SV650 and i thought i blew a gasket but now i realize it might be more serious now
Thank you so much, I do really appreciate
Great video
Awesome video, thank you and keep it up
Don't suppose you'll be doing a re-assembly vid too? Would be great
I might at some stage but have to order gaskets and they cost as much as the engine would be worth unfortunately
@@TheMotorcycleMuseSo I have to replace the piston rings on my 1st gen sv650. If I may ask, what gaskets are you referring to?

Does the intake and exhaust valves get oil
¿ Este motor no lleva valvulina en la caja de cambios ?
Es decir, el aceite que lleva el cambio ¿ es el mismo del aceite del motor ?
Can the two engine covers be removed while the engine is still on the bike?
They can yeah

Hi, great video. Thanks for breaking it down. Lol sorry for the pun. I unable to start my bike. Can I start the bike with a bad rectifier

Will you do the same for a SV1000S?
Hi is the bike in the video a curvey I need to do a strip down on a k3 pointy and the engine looks very similar after watching the video
Very similar engine structure the first few generations. After moving to fuel injection in later model the timing on rotor changed but most likely the same apart from that
is it possible to do a conversion from carbs to fuel injection ? what needs to be done ?
..did Sv 650 had problem with magnets like Kawasaki Kle 500?

You can remove the water pump as an individual unit for maintenance..

He’s showing a gen 1 motor..
are you in Brooklyn?
No Ireland I'm afraid
Do you think it’d be possible to do a head gasket job without taking the engine out of the bike?

Either worn gears or in my case bent shift fork in first gear it rattles like hell when letting off the clutch
