  • Ian McDiarmid reading Theseus' monologue from the play "Phèdre" by Ted Hughes, whose Phèdre is a rendering of Jean Racine’s masterpiece.
At the centre of its tight plot is the incestual lust of the fatally possessed queen and stepmother, whose unrequited passion leads to the unjust accusation and gory death of Hippolytus, her husband's son.
Theseus' monologue is from Act V. "Theramenes brings news of his son's death: Hippolytus' departing chariot has been interrupted by a terrifying horned monster rising from the waves; mortally wounded by Hippolytus, its death throes drive his horses into a wild frenzy; in their flight, the chariot is dashed against the rocks and their master dragged helplessly to his death."
I created a wallpaper using screenshot from tv show 'Britannia' and typed the monologue from the play 'Phèdre.' Music: "Isthmus" by Daniel Gadd.
Audio with narration was borrowed from ‘The British Library’ channel. It doesn't belong to me and was uploaded for entertainment purposes only.

Phèdre was originally made by Jean Racine. One of France’s greatest playwrights and historiographer of Louis XIV.

I managed to find that monologue, narrated by Mr. McDiarmid, on ‘The British Library’ channel. I mentioned about it in the description under the video. Thank you for enjoying my videos with narration. Those audios are brilliant indeed
