At Breakthrough News we believe in the power of independent media. Five mega-corporations dominate the media landscape - controlling 90% of what we read, watch and listen to. They control the news cycle, to which social media and even most “alternative” media is forced to respond. We are breaking through that cycle.
We tell the untold stories of resistance from poor and working-class communities - because out of these stories we will construct a different narrative of the world, as it is and in real time.
People’s movements in every corner of the globe are changing history and shifting consciousness. But these movements barely receive any coverage from the corporate media. They need visibility. They need amplification. They need a media arm to break through.
We can be that media arm, but only with your help. Become a Patron and join us on the front lines in the battle of ideas.

Rania has a very narrow spectrum, she can only go from excellent to outstanding.
Keep it up! Thank you.
This channel is seriously underrated for real (and so do other alternative medias)! Also this cool lady Rania, she keeps coming with banger content and awesome correspondent, I can't get my mind straight how could she done that I mean getting all these brilliant people..😳
On another notes, I feels like Iran is among those highly politicized topics which is frequently overshadowed and suppressed heavily by the "global" voices of the West. I'm just sad I can't possibly find easily any other alternative sources, people, and medias to learn all things about Iran unfiltered because they'll most likely become easy target from US cyber attack (Press TV being notable example)😥😞
Assal Rad is brilliant, rational, level headed, and benevolent, which also describes Rania, btw; so thank you very much for that great conversation.
She’s fittingly Rad !!!
Sanctions is a Washington euphemism for ancient siege warfare.
excellent job Asal
Dr Assal Rad was an amazing guest. Such a clear thinker and fact-explainer. Thank you Rania and Assal.
"Stop using suffering of people for leverage", the quote by Dr Assal Rad, is the best argument I have heard against US sanctions against Iran, Cuba, Venezuela and other countries that kow-tow to the US in the Majority World.
i voted for reformist presidents in the past but this time I voted for Raisi to stand up against the US bullying and ransome policy toward Iran
Well done 👍 Our politicians seem to be secretly in love with your reformists and hate Raisi. Vote for those that our politicians hate the most. Those they love are just traitors to their countries.
And I'm never gonna vote for either a democrat or a republican because all they do is destroy other countries for the benefit of our billionaire class. May they all burn in hell.
👍👍👍
I know many friends who did the same this time 👌
great interview!
There is no difference between Republicans and Democrats in this country...no difference between Pompeo and little boy Blinken. None. This country (U.S.) needs some intelligent thinkers and doers.
Only the style of rhetoric is different. Everything else is the same.
@Dawn Of The New Evil Age Left? Who? The Democratic Party? Joe Biden? Please don't call any of imperialism is left. That's not funny.
Yep you are on the right track America Two Parties are the same the American people are well Brainwashed
You have a CIA--FBI apparthied government in USA , how can you produce intelligent thinkers ????
What an enlightening talk. Thank you
Excellent interview. Thank you, Rania!
Great talk . Well done to you both.
Thank you Rania for an Impeccable interview. Sorry to say that, as an Iranian, I didn't know Assal Rad. She is a brilliant commentator; her words are based on indisputable logic and common sense.
!عسل خانم مایه افتخاری
Love the channel and Rhania’s interviews. Keep this amazing work going!
Please keep up the great work. People really appreciate you!
Excellent show very articulate discussion sanctions kill end sanctions on the Iranian people
Thumbs Up ! Great to be introduced to Assal Rad 🌺🍃🌺
Awesome interview, fantastic guest. Thanks!
Thank you for your work 💪🏽✌🏽💪🏽
Excellent Interview
Brave ladies
29:49 i'm from Austria, and under the monarchy there was a saying (translation): "all of earth belongs to Austria" (needless to say: the world disagreed xD)
every empire has that mentality. every empire is "special". every empire thinks it owns the world. some are more explicit about it than others xD
Great discussion
god bless both of you
Because he was never a political leader with an independent mind. He's a cruel soldier politician who learns to repeat whatever ideas and ideologies he must know given the circumstances, and given what other people who use him expect him to know.
Assal Rad is one of few honest and knowledgable commentators on Iran who unlike Mohammad Marandi, who is spot on vis-à-vis US foreign policy, is honest about Iran not being a democracy. I really enjoyed and learnt from this conversation. Thank you Rania for having Assal. I hope there will be many more!
Because he is told what to do, same as Trump.
Basically what the DNC and RNC mean when they say a candidate is "electable".
Your guest is a sweetheart
Rania
Talk about the sanction on Syria 🙄 it's the worth, people suffering because of that.
Awesome ladies!
Great conversation! Thank u both
20:43 that's what frustrated some African countries. they are annoyed that sometimes their leaders are prosecuted for warcrimes, while french or british leaders get away with essentially anything
0:42 i remember reading an article, i think it was by Reuters, shortly after the Iran nuclear deal was signed (so still under the Obama admin) that talked about how the Obama administration was trying to stop german banks from doing business with Iran. in Europe Italy and Greece jumped all in with Iran right away (which is why they were initially excempt when the US reimposed sanctions)
so even under the Obama administration they pressures their 'allies' in Europe to keep some of the sanctions up
These women feed my soul.
Pure logic! Loved it.
Ladies you are AMAZING 💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽✌🏽💗
Nothing has fundamentally changed.
Just like he promised.
Ethiopian here: Stay strong Iran!
Did I see a picture of Biden kneeling in front of the Israeli ambassador ??? 🤢
43:30 That’s the point. If existential threats exist it’s not about majority or minority. Considering the geostrategic position Iran is in there is no room for „majority decisions“ on fundamental questions.
For example, if Germany is attacked by foreign forces the German constitution transforms to an emergency constitution and the first thing that goes out the window is elections. And this doesn’t mean a full out military invasion, for this so called „Verteidigungsfall“ a terrorattack like 9.11. is enough.
Iran is threatened every day with war, sabotage even nuclear strikes by the worlds biggest military power. Iran exists in a constant state of emergency
If someone talks about reforms they mostly mean getting rid of the position of the King/Supreme Leader. But he is the only reason Iran was able to maneuver through the past decades based on a clear line. Iran can’t afford to have a change in regional or internal policys every 4 years.
BTN could we please get a Cuba update?
Impossible to tell what is happening there by reading/watching MSM. Please tell us the real story :)
"Why is Biden's Iran Policy the Same as Trump's?"
Answer: Just watch the "left Twix vs. right Twix" advertisement
I had an issue with Assal when she said the US regime is Democratic when in reality this is the biggest uncivilized regime of all regimes. The US regime rule the world with an authoritarian iron fist to limit freedom not only domestically but in the rest of the civilized world (all the other countries in the UN). The US disgusting regime want to control and shut down Free Speech globally using their SiliconValley intelligence-wing monopolies. On top of that, the US-regime is going after TikTok and WeChat to steal them from China so that there is no more alternative for freedom and free speech.
If u watch US-regime media, you would think Democrats and Republicans are enemies but the real politiks shows that they are friendly corrupt actors who's job is to divide the American ppl into 2 binary groups who hate each others over idealistic rethorical naratives without any policy substance. This s c u m regime in Washington cannot be reformed from within and a revolution by a united American ppl is the only answer to bring global democracy, Justice, freedom and Free Speech from this disgusting globo-authoritarian savage regime.
IMO it’s way better to have a disempowered Pompeo than an Empowered Blinken.
True, but Blinken is still so bad that if you are going to point this out, it's worth specifying how.
You forgot ADL and Eptein videotapes of politicians.
Bottom line is that Iran is still paying for the hostage crisis. Nothing less, nothing more.
Only cruel leadership would punish the innocent to achieve its motive.
Some important corrections to what has been said:
- "US is not an authoritarian state" only works with the narrow liberal definition of authoritarianism. The guest should read more about the conditions of the black and brown, and more importantly the Natives in the US.
- "Iran is not a democracy" is also too narrowly defined using the liberal definition. Democracy has to do with the power the population have on the policies of their place (city, country, etc.). In that sense, Iranians have way more to say about it than the guest claims.
These shows that the NIAC is still attached to the Western (and orientalist) views of the World. These people would have called Ancient Greece democratic despite the society based on slavery.
It is also so funny to see US citizen for 2-3 or more generations still calling themselves as belonging to the country of their ancestors. This goes to show the internalized colonial mindset of the people living there. That guest for instance is not Iranian-American, she is US American of Iranian descent as she points out quite perfectly. Native scholars have pointed that fact out in the US and Canada, a feature of settler-colonial states. One caveat could be made for black people, but even there, the colonial mindset is present as F. Fanon would have put it.
❤❤❤❤
YO Steph and Jimmy please have these ladies on #jimmydore 💪🏽✌🏽💗
True, diasporas are time capsules.
Great guest. The whole question of whether "a war is won or lost" is very puzzling. First of all, are they really wars? To me they aren't "wars" at all. And whatever they are, I think they could be characterized as being many things at once and war is not one of them because what happens when the US pulls out of Afghanistan? Nothing. The US isn't losing anything. They are nothing but occupation and terrorism.
Were the Crusades wars? They were state building campaigns to salvage political power in the homeland and to control populations at home in Europe. To call them wars is simply part of the PR and propaganda that is created to accompany these state building campaigns.
To me when people talk about the US losing these wars, one they aren't wars and two they aren't losing. They are succeeding wildly. I admit I fall into the habit of calling them wars but it is a misnomer because the PR campaigns are so hegemonic they control the public discourse. They are successful in the same way think tanks and K St. lobbies are successful. They work endlessly with endless resources to stop legislation, to pervert legislation and to straight up write and pass legislation. Of course they will always complain that corporate taxes are too high even if they are capped at 25 cents. But it is complete rent seeking takeover. That is what foreign invasion, occupation, and state sponsored terrorism is. It is throwing endless resources at the region, whether it be the middle east, Africa, or South America, or Asia and doing as much damage to functioning sovereign governments, economies, and societies.
Societies are destroyed by US invasions. This is success from the state departments point of view. It shouldn't be a zero sum game, but they do everything they can to make it a zero sum game. Oh and btw, where do these endless resources come from?
Blinken, his predecessors and their partners make Putin look like a girl scout. It doesn't matter because a large part of the global mass media is controlled by what amounts to private state contractors in the media monopoly business i.e. Murdoch, Twitter, FB, NBC, Netflix, Amazon, Hollywood etc. etc. These are state contractors just like Raytheon, Lockheed Martin, Boeing and the rest.
Meet the new boss same as the old boss.
11:59 in their defense.. they've taken the same approach to North Korea now for 50+years and it worked perfectly there! ...oh wait, nvm... ;) :P
The truth is no matter who you vote for you get the same damn policies.
Your previous Persian guest's, Navid's, views were more realistic and to the point, but Assal's great too, despite the fact that she's with the notorious NIAC. She raised great points.
Can you please elaborate more on why NIAC is notorious?
@@ah306 That would be a huge task, and I can't really help you there. Let me qualify by saying that NIAC is notorious among certain communities, like those commonly referred to as the Revolutionaries, and among a great number of those who consider themselves Nationalists and also among anti imperialists who've recently started to support the establishment
@@ah306 It has to do with the fact that these people took ridiculous approaches at every important turning point. Supporting the new liberal coup, the so-called green movement being one. The role Majd played in the fruitless JCPOA is another.
@@Shahin-ib6ec the NIAC supported the ?green movement
@@Shahin-ib6ec So they are against pro-revolutionaries and extremists and those who are asking foreign countries to invade or cripple people with sanctions. According to you, they are also pro-JCPOA, the green movement, and anti-WAR. Honestly, all of these are positive things, nothing notorious here...
The sanctions need to be lifed on things that are effecting the people of Iran. The sanctions are only hurting the people. the regime still gets what it needs reguardless of the sanctions.
Why are there all those Us military basis all over the world.?
Two smart women. Wow .
By the way
You just need to understand something;
If IRAN wanted nukes they would've acquired hundreds 10 years ago.
Could the US and anyone else stop them from becoming a superpower in terms of defensive military system !!!???
No .
Noone can ever prevent IRAN from doing something.
Because they serves the same master which is Military Industrial Complex.
As someone living in Iran, I strongly disagree with some of the points that my dear
compatriot, Asal, made.
I think reformists' economic policies have severely damaged Iran's economy.
And let's face it. Reformists from Khatami to Rouhani have always been on the doorsteps of US government officials begging for crumbs and they always get absolutely nothing while destroying our national image and pride.
At the same time, they completely ignore the super necessary internal reforms that should be done regarding the domestic economy and government structures. Seems like the only thing they are "reformist" on, is Iran's relationship with the US.
I consider Raisi more of a reformist when it comes to the domestic economy and our international relations and relations with our neighbors.
Sorry for the long-winded comment.
Great, I'm shodowbanned by youtube once again...
If only more Iranians thought like you. I agree with you 100%.
I agree with you. Asal's take on reformists contradicts her position on the US militarism and probably reformists' economic policies. The reformist governments in Iran in the last 30 years have only pursued one major policy, namely to restore Iran's relations with the US at any cost while pursuing neo-liberal economic policies. I doubt very much that the Iranian reformists (specially their leaders) would agree with Asal on the US militarism.
@@gdi1093 I as an ordinary Iranian citizen agree with him 100%
When you understand that Ruhani was a moderate and not a reformist, then you will write a more educated comment. Khatami's was the only reformist government, and to see how successful he was, just google financial indexes. Khatami had the lowest unemployment and inflation rates. Here is the link to one of the economy websites in the case that it's difficult for you to find it: tradingeconomics.com/iran/unemployment-rate "Pride" doesn't come from military power, only. A part of the pride is a good relationship with the world, financial prosperity, freedom, people satisfaction, etc. There isn't much left of your "pride", while you are not able to provide food, electricity, and water for your people. ALL branches of your government are deep into corruption, and people are suffering in a miserable life. While your politicians and their families are enjoying the money taken away from the people. Just try to be honest instead of baseless propaganda. If you don't learn your lesson from history (i.e., the Shah, USSR, etc.), you will have to learn it in a difficult way. We will wait and see how your Raisi will ruin the economy (or what is left of it!)... very soon!
The policy is the same because the same people are able to exert control over the policy. It’s not hard to figure out who… just look at the largest donors to both parties.
Follow the rabbit and check the source of financing.
The same they have been doing with Cuba and Venezuela
Good conversation, you girls look like sisters from same parents
does not get
Why does Iran have 2 armies, IRGC and Artesh?
Because it is risky to have only one army; if one tries a military coup, another will most likely oppose it.
@@cobaltbomba4310 Makes sense with army. But why separate navies and air forces?
@@HiggsBoson1995
It is meant for emergency back-up, I assume:
If Artish's air force gets destroyed by combined attack of US and Israel, then IRGC can jump onto fill that gap easily. Or vice versa can be true as IRGC has its separate naval force.
Iran is beleaguered by a lot of regional and extra-regional foes, so it is natural for Iran to have as many forces as possible to counter threats on land, air and sea.
But the air force of Iran is not up to the mark.
Iran relies heavily on missiles and drones programs at its disposal.
Finally, the nuclear program of Iran is also a kind of alternative deterrence to existential threats like Israel and US.
Iran has become a nuclear threshold state currently.
Iran can build 5 nuclear weapons within a week in a short notice. Since 2018, Iran has reduced its reliance on conventional force by becoming a nuclear weapon-capable state.
Israel with its nuclear weapons cannot attack Iran anymore.
Nuclear capable Iran doesn't need expensive air force now.
I think, I answer your question too much.
The sad thing is that they believed and voted for Biden. 😞
from J town to K street…
True about the well explained real situation in the middle east. The american armies should leave the region immediately immediately
because theres little difference between republicans, democrats if any at all.
Bad cop, worse cop.
I love Iranian history as an American who's half Iranian, I always wanted to work in politics where I can make a stand for Iran's case and I'm so happy you wonderful ladies are doing that. I hope one day to work for a think tank and study Iran and help represent the plight of the Iranian people against the onslaught of the West. Thank you again
Another fact, voter id laws are not Jim Crow 2.0
The same as Trump's? WTH?
According to the IRS, the following individuals qualify for the fourth stimulus payment: Adjusted Gross Income of up to $75,000 for individuals. Filers who are the head of the home and have an AGI up to $112,500. couples filing jointly who are married and have an AGI up to $150,000.Sep 12, 2023
I like this whole topic. One issue I do have is, this black and white racist thing. I’m Puerto Rican , the brown people of other racists are having issues as well. Actually black people are being treated better for the most part, then the Hispanics.
Gutterres at the Un council said it clear enough that Israel should stop interfering in the Gaza state. Israel has become an apartheid state. The Us and Israel have a vote in the Un council but Gaza and Iran not..!Time for change in the vote system in the council. The African Union should have voting power too..!
Because that is what Israel wants
The CFR dictates our foreign policy.
Democrats versus republicans mean very little.
It’s not the us policy against Iran it’s Israel policy against Iran the us is just obliging the Israeli policy
Lebanese and Persian women are so hot
Is this all your brain mined from this hour+ long conversation?
jajajaja i love women usa
Arabic and Persian women are honest.
Biden is pretty much just Trump with lipsticks
23:33 Sorry, but I have to intervene humbly here. The US has never been a democracy. The Constitution grants sovereignty to state governors and to them alone.
Rania I certainly appreciate you for talking to different people in the Iranian political spectrum. So thank you for that.
But is it time to say "told you so"!? To those had hope Biden changes policies toward Iran?! Wether it's Ruhani adm or Mr Zarif, or NIAC who saw Biden as the savior of Iran deal while we the revolutionaries from the beginning of JCPOA knew it won't change anything.. as the leader himself said you can go and negotiate but I'm not optimistic. Don't trust the Americans!
US government despite the illusion of 2 parties is to secure the Zionists' interests at any cost. The main effective sanctions against Iran belongs to Obama era! Look at the statics..
Just to address Asal's accusation against Mr Raeesi. Why are you repeating MEK talking points? He is a human right abuser bcz he was involved in the persecution of MEK Terrorists who have killed 17000 Iranians over time?
That's not a good color on you dear
And about the claim of Iranians being mostly reformist. If you based that claim on the 2 last election when Ruhani took the office I should tell you many Iranians who voted for him were voters of ahmadinejad! But they wanted to try the negotiations bcz they were under economic pressure by the sanctions. So that vote was not to reformists but to JCPOA! That's why Ayatollah Khamenei agreed to negotiate but told them don't trust Americans.
And now many who didn't vote were the middle class who are not in any camp politically but under a severe pressure by the sanctions and mismanagement of Ruhani adm.
So reformist camp in fact don't have any grass roots in the society anymore. But you aligned them with those who want any changes in the situation and sum it up as the reformists. That is miscalculation.
In fact in middle class and the ordinary Iranians the 2 parties have no meaning! But the elite doesn't understand that.
we iranian tell you that american bully does not work for us
USA can do nothing agains us iranian
2 YEAR OLD NEWS 😅😅😅
It is frustrating to see intelligent people pointing-out and arguing against the US stated reasons for war when it seems to me that it is obvious that the US government's reasons to attack other countries are purely diversionary at best. See what the real reasons are and work on those, otherwise you are wasting time arguing stated diversion s.
She is straw manning a lot at the 3rd section of the video. Especially after 56 minutes. There are oppositions that want monarchy and they are against voting. She is painting every opposition with that understanding.
Assal is biased towards the Iranian government, I wish Rania pushed back on some of her premises. Iran is not in Iraq, Iran has influence in Iraq, unlike the US that has bases in Iraq.

People of Iran hate Khamanee and all Mollahs and US and other countries must Suport people not the government of Iran.

Yes sanctions are a atrocity
I’ve worked out just why UA-cam completely missed the full picture. You actually believe there’s a difference between Democrats and Republicans
