My Small Colorado Home: Organized and Minimalist-ish On a Budget

- This is an updated home tour after several minimalist-ish declutters at the end of last year. I live in just over 1000 square feet in beautiful Berthoud, CO with my husband, step son and daughter. We have to be very creative with our organization and use of space. It’s a never ending project really.
If you’re new to my channel: Hello! I’m Rebecca. I’m a registered nurse, mom, wife and mild-mannered bad ass living just north of Denver, Colorado. My channel documents my family’s journey to get out debt. The videos I create have an emphasis on creativity, resourcefulness, budgeting, frugality, enjoying the debt-free journey, DIY, small-space living, happily making do with less in all aspects of life and minimalism. I know 1024sq is rather small by American standards (apart from cities like NY, SF etc.), but in Europe such space conditions are absolutely normal. You have a really nice house and I also think that a minimalist lifestyle and little living space actually complement each other perfectly
Hey! You’re spot on with your comment. It really seems to be a uniquely American thing to say that a home that is 1000 square feet is “small”. When I tell people I work with what size my home is the usual response is typically a concerned or incredulous look, but I love our place. It’s cozy and affordable and I can give the whole house a good clean in just a few hours which is awesome! But what you said is exactly what I said to my husband when we moved in. I told him that people all over the world live in places the size of our house or smaller. It’s just in suburban America it’s considered small! Thanks for watching, and thanks for the comment!
What a clever idea to create a little enclosed space in your dining room for your daughter! I'm sure few people would have come up with that solution, myself included. Great video. ❤

Thanks for the comment, and thanks for watching! Yes! I completely agree with what you’re saying. It really is a largely suburban American mindset to say that 1000 square feet is small. When really 1000 square feet is more than enough space if you simplify and get creative!

Hey! Thanks so much! And thanks for the perspective too! You are so right. My house may not be as big as the average American new construction home, but it’s most definitely big enough. I’ve also always liked smaller spaces more anyways. They’re cozy and relatively quick to clean and tidy up! 🙂

I used to follow lots of American UA-camrs who did cleaning, organising and lifestyle content but I ended up unsubscribing, not because they were crap but because I just couldn't relate to them (they all lived in house's 5/6 times bigger than ours). You are so relatable and seem very down to earth. My husband is a nurse and I'm a police officer so I totally get the whole shift work thing whilst trying to keep on top of mum life. Your approach to paying off your debt is great and I wish you all the best with your progress. I'm half way through watching your past videos and have left a little comment on each.
