This video (and the others created by OTOY) help to prove that the classic visual style of Star Trek from the 1960s and 70s CAN work with today's design esthetic. There was no need to make Discovery and SNW look 'modern'. With just minor refinements and in the right hands, the pre-TNG art style would have been BEAUTIFUL as a tv show.

I completely 100% agree! It would’ve even been more wow inducing to have disco look like this and then once they had the refit 900 years in the future switch to the current aesthetic.. it would’ve furthered the integration that they have moved distantly into the future. Strange new worlds to me doesn’t have any of the tos aesthetic or style.. not even a little which is confusing even for viewers who are very well versed in the lore. I know exactly when it’s taking place but the aesthetics of it occasionally trick my brain into thinking for split seconds here and there that we’re in the distant future from tos and not in the same timeframe

Also, just to drive the point home, look at how the various recent Star Wars series have stayed true to the design of the original three movies. The computer terminals still feature rows upon rows of flashing unmarked buttons. The displays still use minimal and simplistic graphics. Even the clothes and architecture tend to scream 1970s. If they can successfully pull off all those design aesthetics, then Star Trek could have done the same with its retro-futuristic designs.

For non-commercial use I'm not sure what the legality is, I would think anyone releasing stuff into the public domain would still be held to the same rules.

Just noticed 4 others on the hilltop. This is all really well-done stuff. I'd pay to watch a full feature. It's done very, very well, and everyone can admit Trek fans are the most critical bunch.. and as one, I strongly approve of this so far. Is that winter ship the original Enterprise design sketch 22-L ? YES! That's the famous RINGSHIP XCV-330 model by Matt Jefferies!!!

Massive respect to the uploader. The concept and cinematic quality speaks for itself. Alas if only Star Trek was conceived this way in our times, were World building illustrated on a scale akin to DUNE Mk II. Is it too much to as to prise our purses by offering Cinema-goers a degree of thrill and escapism, amid these bleak uncertain economic times??

Weird head tilt angle on Spock but it looks incredible. This is the route to go. No one can replace the originals but we can bring them back to life.
