I'm a old man and have followed Star Trek from the very beginning , I can say with hand on heart this is a master piece, from all fans I say thank you .
I have to admit that I was genuinely and strongly moved by the image of Spock. I'm old too, I watched every episode on NBC starting with 'The Man Trap' as it aired for the first time. This is some amazing creation.
stunning. it's sad that so few of the original actors are left. very respectful recreation of Leonard Nimoy's Spock - still struggling with emotions. I have to admit this brings a tear to the eye - must be getting old. RIP Spock🌌

I watched it 10 times and still get chills. That slight change in Spock's expression tells us he's in tremendous emotional pain. It's the Vulcan equivalent of dropping to your knees and sobbing. It's so well done, exactly how I would have expected Leonard Nimoy to do it.
Well you have to remember Kirk and Spock were friends for decades during their journeys on the Enterprise and remember what Spock said near the end of Star Trek 2:The Wrath of Khan just before he died 'I have been and forever shall be your friend' and remember what Deanna Troi said that Vulcans have the same feelings we do they just learned to suppress them going through the ritual called the 'Kolihnar' the ritual to suppress all emotions.
@@nicholasmorsovillo2752incorrect. Control and suppression of emotions yes, but not every Vulcan goes through the Kholinar. That is a top level discipline that few get to. Spock failed in his attempt.
I simply cannot find the words to accurately describe how this made me feel. The crashed 1701-D saucer section, the music, the emotions just below the surface of Spock's expression, all executed to perfection. Seeing this brought tears to my eyes. Live long and prosper.
I genuinely had more of an emotional reaction from this short than nearly any blockbuster movie from the last 10 years or so. The amount of passion that has been poured into this is obvious, thank you to all involved.
Apart from the first 2009 reboot and Season 3 Picard. The bastardisation and destruction of Star Trek has really upset me.... this was done with love, reverend, respect and honour....
Well, it does require the story building and character building that leads up to this scene, otherwise it wouldn't mean the same emotionally. It would be kinda confusing and not really mean anything if you don't know what happened before this

Wow. The attention to detail in the ship, face, uniform, and EVERYTHING, it’s absolutely perfect. This 2 minute clip is one of the greatest things I’ve ever seen from Star Trek.
The acting is an absolute masterclass. How to portray a range of emotions without resorting to crying like a baby or screeching like a banshee. Modern Trek actors would do well to watch this and learn.

Nimoy was brilliant, he always controlled Spock's power, versus the overheated mess of whatshisname. @One Issue Voter Spock here is played by an actor, the used 3d rendering of spocks face from earlier movies to create a mask for the actor. They also enhanced the actors appearance digitally.
Yep. Reminds me of going to see Star Trek 3, thinking, oh this will be fun, and they began the film with that letterbox of Spock's death, and I wept before eating my popcorn. 🙁 Very well done. We may assume the flashbacks are Spock recalling the first time he heard of Kirk's supposed death on the Enterprise B, and the great sacrifice that was made to by the crew to bring Spock back after Genesis... Fascinating.
If you're 50 years old and this makes you sob and lose control of yourself you really need to get a grip on reality and yourself. I mean if this makes you cry imagine how unstable you must seem to the people around you in your life. You would literally be scaring them and making them insecure and cause them damage.
Just stunningly beautiful. We can see that, in spite of Spock's character, so many emotions here are being struggled with. This was a TRUE masterpiece of work and art.
How a 2 minute video has made a 40 year old man cry like a baby is beyond me. This is MY Trek, and evidently is the Trek Terry Matalas is interested in making. Continuity matters and is full of golden opportunity to fill in gaps and expand and explore. #StarTrekLegacy 🙏🏻😭

if you take the tng crew out of picard season 3 it's really not a good story at all. i feel like terry matalas wasted an insane opportunity by not having a completely kickass original story to go along with bringing them all back together but it seems like the creativeness in the story doesn't matter that much to alot of people. strange to me.
@@funghoul9124 Yes I completely agree. The people praising Matalas are delusional. All we really got was fan service, without any true substance to it. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed seeing the Enterprise D set, but this isn't enough to make me say it was a good season. It was a terrible season.
Spock has devoted himselve to logic and selve controll, but by no means are his emotions purged. And especially old spock learned to appreceate his emotions. You can especially see that in Star Trek 6.
@@Progger11 To be fair, he made it all the way to the final ritual, or so the movie seems to suggest. He was extremely successful in working through his emotions. Mind you, I do not disagree but just felt I'd add to your comment.
I grew up watching Star Trek TOS with my mom and Spock was her favorite character. Leonard Nimoy passed away a week after she did, but my first reaction to hearing about it was to call her. I've never cried because of a celebrities death before that, but that day I broke down. Seeing him again, even if it was a digital copy still made me cry.
Just want to thank OTOY and Chris (frank) Gore for bringing this to our attention on FNT (Vegas) Spock was so good, so very good. I got the feels not just for Spock but remembering Lenard and how that human emotional side slipped out every now and again. This is what I miss this kind of talent, commitment and character. What a superlative Job in this quiet bit of memory and art. Thank you again.
Spock's memory of the The Enterprise being destroyed by Kirk, on the Genesis planet, to save his accelerated aging body, in order to return his Katra to him on Vulcan, that had been transferred to McCoy. The memory in Spock seems to be in a younger version of him on a star base -- as opposed to the older Spock visiting Veridian III where Kirk was buried -- so much information in a 2 minute clip ---with such precise likeness makes the story so real. Absolutely amazing.
It really is. As I sat and thought about this for a few minutes the possibilities unfolded gently, beautifully, piece by piece. For a two-minute clip the density of ideas here is as stunning as the visuals, and the mournful score. You suddenly realise its tantalising parallels - the symmetry between two friends, each having been, at different moments in time, alone, mourning the death of the other. The destruction of Enterprise D associated with the death of Kirk, somehow triggering a vision of the loss of the original 1701 after the death of Spock. The momentary seeming psychic link between his older and younger selves, and the perception of two ship losses neither of which he actually witnessed, is fascinating. Then you recall the title "Resurrection" - initially that was only about Spock's rebirth in ST III. Then you remember The Return, and then you remember the revelation in Picard season 3 at Daystrom Station, and realise it's pointing to that possibility, too. By now the ideas are tumbling over themselves in my head - my mind is racing as to whether Spock could/would do the same for Kirk as Kirk did for him, continuing to fulfil this mysterious symmetry that somehow exists across space and time between these two friends. Would it be his past self who acts? The one who just received a vision of the future? Did old Spock communicate to him in that moment the knowledge of having met Picard, and how might this inform younger Spock's action? Then you remember the end of ST III: "You came back for me... why would you do this?" and Kirk's reply "You would've done the same for me." 😱🤩 *Literal* shivers. Tears. I can't believe how clever and elegant and dense this short film is - it set my imagination racing, and made me very happy. Thank you so much to everyone involved in creating it such an ingenious and loving tribute - one of the most delightful, perfect additions to the Trek universe and my personal head canon I've ever seen. ❤
@@whalemonstre It was incredible but I'm still wrapping my head around the flashback to younger Spock. Where is he and why are we taken to that moment in time? Looks like Motion Picture era I'm just not sure of the significance.
This genuinely made me tear up. It is wonderful to see the aftermath of Generations with the emotional weight its events deserve. Seeing the late-70s era Spock and the negative space in that last shot is what made me lose it slightly. I always felt it was a great shame to have Spock be still around in the 24th century and yet miss out on him seeing his apparently long-dead friend one last time. Whatever Roddenberry Archive wants to do with this technology, please make it worthwhile, it has the potential to provide closure to the franchise and give it back some of its dignity.
This actually makes up for Shatner's deleted scene in Star Trek (2009). Seeing Spock grapple with these emotions. Knowing he could have seen his friend one last time, after almost a century. Losing him again. And not being there either time. Heartbreaking. Every part of this is so well done. The teaser at the end has me itching for this TMP-era Spock and Colt story. What is it?! When will we see it?? I'm eager and anxious to see.
Shatner never filmed any scenes for Trek 2009. He'd been in preliminary discussions to appear in both 2009 and Into Darkness, but it never happened, obviously.

Spock Prime was supposed to give Spock a pendant with a holographic message inside: Shatner-as-Kirk wishing Spock happy birthday and pondering their place in their present and in their past. It was written well enough and would’ve been a great surprise cameo but, of course, Shatner didn’t wanna do it.
After the epic resurrection of the Enterprise D from the finale of Picard season 3 now we are treated to a glimpse of when they were recovering her after 29 years. I can’t believe we get to see Nimoy again and his Spock reacting to his dear friend’s death, this is some closure I needed. I always felt Kirk’s death was so…. lacking from both how he died and afterwards.

I remember Rick Berman saying he wanted all of the original crew for the Enterprise-B scenes. All but Wm. Shatner, James Doohan and Walter Koenig declined, but if this scene had been a post-credits scene for “Generations”, it would had been a great way for Leonard Nimoy to had participated. Even if it was a post-credit scene with both Leonard Nimoy and DeForest Kelly as Ambassador Spock and retired ADM Leonard McCoy paying their final respects to James T. Kirk.
This is amazing. I cannot believe the perfect attention to detail and the look of complete realism. Please go further with this. As a 44 year Trek fan, seeing new TMP era footage literally brought tears to my eyes. You have something special going here. Please go further with this. All of the decades old fans will be eternally grateful.

@@iamoctonate Picard S1 and S2 should stay. They make S3 that much better. Ignoring them undercuts what was done here, and also tarnishes Picard S3's entire existence. Particularly with an entirely new villain about to be revealed whenever Star Trek Legacy is begun. Perhaps this ties in to that enemy?

Seasons 1 and 2 don't add anything but contempt for TNG original characters and Rodenberry's vision and new uninteresting characters. You can see 3 ignoring they killed Picard and Data and enjoy it so very much more.

It seems heavily inspired by scenes at the beginning and end of Shatner's book "The Ashes of Eden", which got expanded upon at the start of "The Return".
If this footage had been filmed for Generations in 1994 as post credit scenes the movie could have made more money & the fans would feel better about the Enterprise D Fate & getting to see Spock again,visiting in old friend who is gone.If this makes sense?!
This is the Star Trek I wish we’d get, at least in movies, today. It’s eerie yet mysterious, it’s slow yet suspenseful. No cliché effect or over-the-top action. The pace is just right and the story is a delight.
Because this is good Star Trek material post Berman, fanmade or not, which Paramount is somehow strongly against even though Star Trek is all that's keeping them afloat, and probably the only thing that'll give buying them out any value once they run out of money to do anything.
@@Fuzzycatfur With apparent popularity of Picard Season 3 vs the other seasons and other series I'm hoping Paramount lightens up on the fanmade content. I think they're realising they can't simply ignore the older fanbase and act as if these new versions have much appeal. They also realise they shouldn't follow in the footsteps of Disney/Star Wars or the MCU, which are dead or dying franchises while Star Trek still has enough of a fanbase left to revive itself should they choose to make Trek the way most viewers wanted it done.

What's the timeline of Starfleet going to get the D, and Spock visiting the planet? If it occurred soon after the crash wouldn't the original crew have known, and not have been surprised about later finding the D? Wasn't it only because many years had passed (when most were out of the loop) that no one knew it had been salvaged? If so, then Spock's visit is many years after the events on Veridian III, or rather not at the same time as the salvage?
@@Radeo In Picard Season 3 Jorde says he has spent the last 20 years rebuilding the D. Generations was in 2371 and Picard Season 3 is 2401 so Jorde was working on it from approx 2381 to 2401. I would bet that Star Fleet didn't leave the D sitting there on Veridian 3 for very long so I would say this takes place in 2371 or 2372 at the latest.
This is one of the best things I have ever seen 😭 Lifted right from beginning of William Shatners: Ashes of Eden trilogy, one of my favourite books. It's incredible to think that the technology and skilled people like you exist now to make those ideas into a film. Mind. Blown. Well done!!!
I kept waiting to hear Spock speak in his distinctive deep voice ...to even say just "Jim...." Spectacular work everyone! Just takes the breath away...!
Look up an AI startup called ElevenLabs, they use AI which can learn and recreate any voice which is fed as an audio data stream to it. More than likely they could accurately have recreated Nimoy's voice with all the recorded audio of him. Of course they would need the permission of his estate to do something like that but the quality and effect would be extremely cool.

Clicked on a playlist cuz I wanted some background music while doing something else and then this pops up after 15 minutes of music. Stopped what I was doing and had to watch this three times. Brought tears to my eyes and a lump in my throat. Bless Gene Roddenberry for creating Spock and Leonard Nimoy for bringing him to life. And bless you all for this wonderful tribute.
I'm not sure if anyone has pointed this out, but i LOVE the attention to detail on Kirk's badge, you even included the weathering that was on the actual prop from the scene!
This is cool! And Spock is played by an actor with prosthetic mask and blended with visual effects from footage. And he is quite convincing even without the CGI - at least in still image.
Yeah everyone thinks this is pure CGI, but actually the actor has an incredible likeness to Leonard Nmoy IRL. Theyve just closed the last 10% with makeup which has insanely good results. This actor can literally cash n on his genetics if he sticks with star trek projects...
I am 64 years of age and I watched Star Trek from the very beginning and I too am surprised and pleased with the excellent work and attention to detail here. They have to move quickly, Shatner being 93 and all. I bet its the section 31 movie. This is the opening scene. He is on ice at the Section 31 station lying next to a device that has been proven to bring people back from the dead.
i thought the same with Kirks remains on Picard as well as this clip reminds me of the novel The Return by Wilam Shatner..All that is missing is the single tear in Spocks eye
This is beyond perfect. Having watched Spocks reaction to Sarek's passing in TNG's Unification is both the same and different all in one. With Sarek's passing, Spock was both bitter and sad that his father had passed away, and yet he felt he did not know him as well as he'd like to have. In this instance, Spock is reacting to an extremely close friend, who risked everything to bring him back. The opening shot of this video makes us realise the true damage caused by the Enterprise's landing, something we didn't see too well in the movie due to CGI still being in its early days for this sort of stuff, and there was more of a budget to work to. But the recovery ties in very nicely with what we got to see at the end of Picard, season 3. Just two things I wished were different - Picard's line in the movie ".....but unfortunately, the Enterprise D cannot be salvaged." And also, that Leonard was still with us, so he could enjoy this masterpiece with us. Thank you for making an old fan shed a tear.
Brought Tears To My Eyes, this was AWESOME!!! Kirk always said he die alone, and you can see it in Spock's eyes and his feelings of not being there for him in the time of death!!
@@jerrywinder7249 I think he's referring to the first time Kirk died, when he was trying to get that torpedo to work or whatever it was, during the beginning of Star Trek generations.
@@jerrywinder7249 It was still like dying alone, because none of his friends (Spock, McCoy, Scotty, etc.) were with him when he died. Dying with a stranger nearby is quite different than dying with friends/loved ones with you.
Same here!!! When he picked up his badge and stared into the camera scene I got all tore up!!! I watched Generations close to a hundred times now. I remember ALL that took place in that movie. The saucer crashing onto the surface to the fight between Kirk and Soran. I cried when Kirk died in front of Picard. I was in my late 20s then and now I’m 41. I grew up on Voyager so to say cause that’s the show I watched when I was growing up when it was on UPN.
This scene from the book reminds me of the line FROM the book, "Imagine what it must be like to lose a friend, and then to 78 years later, lose him again?" Powerful scene that does not require any dialogue.
This legit makes Generations a little better. I want to know more... is this a sign of more to come? Or just a stand-alone story open to interpretation?
Epic! So this is my take- everything we see up to spock flashing back is actually his past self seeing the future ( Kirk's death could have really created a strong psychic moment) and as he snaps back it's glimpse of the enterprises destruction ( his soul was connected to bones who saw her go down) then finally back to his present which is in the motion picture I'm guessing right after the whole VGER event and I bet after spock connected to vger threw mindmeld you know he gained something from that and I think its inhansed abilities for sure .So this this was way cool and a wild future to past tie in.
This might be the best Star Trek clip I've ever seen. The shows and movies are great, but this short clip elicited a seriously powerful emotional response. I'm sure it's because Leonard isn't around anymore, and it makes me emotional to see him years after the fact, but then to jump to young Spock from the Motion Picture era? And to see the original NCC-1701 crashing on the Genesis Planet? I'm really in a state of shock. This was beyond fantastic.
It's literally the first thing in 20 years that looks and feels star trek from the production values, the tone and the familiarity with the golden age in this franchise.

Very impressive. The attention to detail with the little facial tics and expressions is really impressive. You really feel that Leonard is looking out at you rather than it being a clinical, soulless piece of CGI.
@@fraxis2007 Lawrence Selleck bares a near uncanny resemblance to Nimoy when he was young. What we saw is 100% prosthetics and make up to make him look exactly like Nimoy circa early 1990s and 1979. There's some behind the scenes shots of him in the make up chair. If there's any CGI involved, it's mostly for touch up purposes.
I am in awe over what all of you have done. You have taken Gene Roddenberry's vision and improved upon it considerably. My aunt, when she was alive, was a huge Star Trek fan. Her most prized possession was an autographed picture of Leonard Nimoy as Spock. She would have been sobbing if she saw this and she would have said thank you for making this happen. I think I can speak for a lot of people when I say - give us more.
The only real question here is which reveal elicited more emotion -- the immense hull of NCC-1701-D's saucer, or the OG Spock paying respects to his captain and friend. Just a brilliant piece of short filmmaking. Much love!

I love how this addresses the two greatest losses to the TOS and TNG fan base, inextricably linked. And here, in 2 minutes without words, the wounds are being cleaned, with a nod to stitching them up. Beautiful work.
This is amazing! When I watched Picard and saw the crew reunited on the bridge of 1701-D I actually cried which I didn't expect. That's how good it felt. This featurette hits me in the same place.
I'm a month younger than TOS. I've been a fan basically since birth. I enjoyed pretty much every iteration of Star Trek (except Discovery but I don't judge those who like it - just wasn't my cup of Earl Grey). I am compelled to say this: this brought tears to my eyes that reminded me of Spock's death in Wrath of Khan and Kirk's witnessing of it through a barrier he couldn't cross. Spock now, at least metaphorically, couldn't cross the rocky barrier to forgo logic and touch his Friend - his Brother. THIS IS WHAT STAR TREK REALLY IS! "Space" is only the backdrop; the real adventure is the lives they've led. Thank you for doing this.

Oh my, this gave me chills and then I got so misty-eyed at the reveal of Spock I had to clear my vision and go back and rewatch it a few more times. The effects are stunning, the CGI rendering is very well done and respectful. I'm not ashamed to say that I cried when the news of the late Leonard Nimoy's passing broke in a way I have seldom cried in my life because Spock played such an important role in my adolescence and the continued wisdom and kindness of Mr. Nimoy was deeply touching to me. I never "knew" him in the sense his close friends and family did and I wouldn't have claimed to but the character he gifted us all with, I knew the character very well and I was undoubtedly one of many young people who felt very connected to Spock for different and equally personal reasons. So, I've been missing HIS Spock on screen and mourning over the knowledge that I would never again see new material of Mr. Nimoy as Spock, and then this 2-minute clip came along and it just hit me right in the chest in the best sort of way. Thank you for this, it means so much!
I saw it on my cell phone, I'm not even a Trek fan and I'm in tears. I'm watching this on a 50' Hd (which is my max. resolution capacity) and enjoy it some more. Mesmerizing.

Honestly, watching this whole clip from beginning to end, it makes you feel nostalgic, fills you with grief, and brings a little smile to your face. Seeing Spock retrieve Kirk's delta badge from Veridian III, that moment where he's staring out his apartment window, and the one that hit me the most: the sight of the original Enterprise at the end of _The Search for Spock_, that one hit me the most. Though it leaves me wondering, did Spock believe that the Enterprise may still be out there, waiting to be brought home, as the Enterprise-D was? What could that brief reappearance of the Enterprise's final moments mean? I guess we'll never know. All I will say is that this was a welcome appearance by Spock, and I could not have been happier to see the original best first officer in Starfleet one more time. Rest in peace Leonard Nimoy. Live Long, and Prosper...🖖
I think what it is trying to be convey is Spock's guilt. When old Spock retrieves Kirk's badge, he thinks back to all that Kirk sacrificed to bring him back (represented by the burning Enterprise - A). Spock learning that, during all those years since Kirk "died" on the Enterprise - B, he was actually in the Nexus and could have been brought back, further adds to his guilt.
Computers and AI are advancing so much every few years pretty soon will be seeing the original crew on board the Enterprise in new episodes continuing the five-year mission. I'm so happy that Roddenberry's vision of Star Trek is being preserved.
I'm actually wondering what sort of state the underside of the Enterprise-D saucer was in when they lifted her up. I'd imagine lot of the hull under there must've ripped off from dragging along the surface and knocking down trees during that crash. Geordi sure would've had his work cut out for him there when restoring her.
I could see tritanium backed up by force fields being many times stronger than rock and trees, but I bet the phaser arrays and windows got absolutely ruined.
What can I say, simply breathtaking, amazing, beautiful rendition to the fantastic universe of Star Trek, wish there was a movie about all these OTOY videos!
The human half of Spock, bereft with grief. James Kirk, his best and closest friend, his brother-in-arms, to whom Spock owed his very own life, the same Kirk, long thought MIA for 80 years, now finally dead, lost forever to him. The Vulcan half of Spock, acknowledging how logically his commanding officer Kirk behaved, sacrificing the needs of the one for the needs of the many. Both halves honoring a great officer and hero of Starfleet and the Federation. Both halves honoring their friend. This clip was lovingly done and quite moving. My eternal thanks for creating and sharing.

I have to admit that I was genuinely and strongly moved by the image of Spock. I'm old too, I watched every episode on NBC starting with 'The Man Trap' as it aired for the first time. This is some amazing creation.

I watched it 10 times and still get chills. That slight change in Spock's expression tells us he's in tremendous emotional pain. It's the Vulcan equivalent of dropping to your knees and sobbing. It's so well done, exactly how I would have expected Leonard Nimoy to do it.

Well you have to remember Kirk and Spock were friends for decades during their journeys on the Enterprise and remember what Spock said near the end of Star Trek 2:The Wrath of Khan just before he died 'I have been and forever shall be your friend' and remember what Deanna Troi said that Vulcans have the same feelings we do they just learned to suppress them going through the ritual called the 'Kolihnar' the ritual to suppress all emotions.

I simply cannot find the words to accurately describe how this made me feel. The crashed 1701-D saucer section, the music, the emotions just below the surface of Spock's expression, all executed to perfection. Seeing this brought tears to my eyes.

Apart from the first 2009 reboot and Season 3 Picard. The bastardisation and destruction of Star Trek has really upset me.... this was done with love, reverend, respect and honour....
Well, it does require the story building and character building that leads up to this scene, otherwise it wouldn't mean the same emotionally.

Wow. The attention to detail in the ship, face, uniform, and EVERYTHING, it’s absolutely perfect. This 2 minute clip is one of the greatest things I’ve ever seen from Star Trek.

The acting is an absolute masterclass. How to portray a range of emotions without resorting to crying like a baby or screeching like a banshee. Modern Trek actors would do well to watch this and learn.

Nimoy was brilliant, he always controlled Spock's power, versus the overheated mess of whatshisname. @One Issue Voter Spock here is played by an actor, the used 3d rendering of spocks face from earlier movies to create a mask for the actor. They also enhanced the actors appearance digitally.

Very well done. We may assume the flashbacks are Spock recalling the first time he heard of Kirk's supposed death on the Enterprise B, and the great sacrifice that was made to by the crew to bring Spock back after Genesis... Fascinating.

if you take the tng crew out of picard season 3 it's really not a good story at all. i feel like terry matalas wasted an insane opportunity by not having a completely kickass original story to go along with bringing them all back together but it seems like the creativeness in the story doesn't matter that much to alot of people. strange to me.
@@funghoul9124 Yes I completely agree. The people praising Matalas are delusional. All we really got was fan service, without any true substance to it. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed seeing the Enterprise D set, but this isn't enough to make me say it was a good season. It was a terrible season.

Spock has devoted himselve to logic and selve controll, but by no means are his emotions purged. And especially old spock learned to appreceate his emotions. You can especially see that in Star Trek 6.
Spock regected the Kolihnar. He absolutely did not purge his emotions.

I grew up watching Star Trek TOS with my mom and Spock was her favorite character. Leonard Nimoy passed away a week after she did, but my first reaction to hearing about it was to call her. I've never cried because of a celebrities death before that, but that day I broke down. Seeing him again, even if it was a digital copy still made me cry.
Just want to thank OTOY and Chris (frank) Gore for bringing this to our attention on FNT (Vegas) Spock was so good, so very good. I got the feels not just for Spock but remembering Lenard and how that human emotional side slipped out every now and again. This is what I miss this kind of talent, commitment and character. What a superlative Job in this quiet bit of memory and art. Thank you again.

Spock's memory of the The Enterprise being destroyed by Kirk, on the Genesis planet, to save his accelerated aging body, in order to return his Katra to him on Vulcan, that had been transferred to McCoy. The memory in Spock seems to be in a younger version of him on a star base -- as opposed to the older Spock visiting Veridian III where Kirk was buried -- so much information in a 2 minute clip ---with such precise likeness makes the story so real. Absolutely amazing.
It really is. As I sat and thought about this for a few minutes the possibilities unfolded gently, beautifully, piece by piece. For a two-minute clip the density of ideas here is as stunning as the visuals, and the mournful score. You suddenly realise its tantalising parallels - the symmetry between two friends, each having been, at different moments in time, alone, mourning the death of the other. The destruction of Enterprise D associated with the death of Kirk, somehow triggering a vision of the loss of the original 1701 after the death of Spock. The momentary seeming psychic link between his older and younger selves, and the perception of two ship losses neither of which he actually witnessed, is fascinating. Then you recall the title "Resurrection" - initially that was only about Spock's rebirth in ST III. Then you remember The Return, and then you remember the revelation in Picard season 3 at Daystrom Station, and realise it's pointing to that possibility, too. By now the ideas are tumbling over themselves in my head - my mind is racing as to whether Spock could/would do the same for Kirk as Kirk did for him, continuing to fulfil this mysterious symmetry that somehow exists across space and time between these two friends. Would it be his past self who acts? The one who just received a vision of the future? Did old Spock communicate to him in that moment the knowledge of having met Picard, and how might this inform younger Spock's action? Then you remember the end of ST III: "You came back for me... why would you do this?" and Kirk's reply "You would've done the same for me." 😱🤩 *Literal* shivers. Tears. I can't believe how clever and elegant and dense this short film is - it set my imagination racing, and made me very happy. Thank you so much to everyone involved in creating it such an ingenious and loving tribute - one of the most delightful, perfect additions to the Trek universe and my personal head canon I've ever seen. ❤

Younger Spock was post events of V'ger and prior to his promotion to Captain. He still had commander's stripes on his sleeves.

This genuinely made me tear up. It is wonderful to see the aftermath of Generations with the emotional weight its events deserve. Seeing the late-70s era Spock and the negative space in that last shot is what made me lose it slightly. I always felt it was a great shame to have Spock be still around in the 24th century and yet miss out on him seeing his apparently long-dead friend one last time. Whatever Roddenberry Archive wants to do with this technology, please make it worthwhile, it has the potential to provide closure to the franchise and give it back some of its dignity.

This actually makes up for Shatner's deleted scene in Star Trek (2009). Seeing Spock grapple with these emotions. Knowing he could have seen his friend one last time, after almost a century. Losing him again. And not being there either time. Heartbreaking. Every part of this is so well done. The teaser at the end has me itching for this TMP-era Spock and Colt story. What is it?! When will we see it?? I'm eager and anxious to see.
Next we'll be expecting William Shatners appearance. I mean, what are they planning on with Kirk's dead body? Resurrect him? Clone him? 🤔

Shatner never filmed any scenes for Trek 2009. He'd been in preliminary discussions to appear in both 2009 and Into Darkness, but it never happened, obviously.

Spock Prime was supposed to give Spock a pendant with a holographic message inside: Shatner-as-Kirk wishing Spock happy birthday and pondering their place in their present and in their past. It was written well enough and would’ve been a great surprise cameo but, of course, Shatner didn’t wanna do it.
Less Shitner is always a good thing.

After the epic resurrection of the Enterprise D from the finale of Picard season 3 now we are treated to a glimpse of when they were recovering her after 29 years. I can’t believe we get to see Nimoy again and his Spock reacting to his dear friend’s death, this is some closure I needed. I always felt Kirk’s death was so…. lacking from both how he died and afterwards.

@@smileygabe22 S1 and 2 were the worst ever, S3 with new showrunner and writers was far better. Not perfect, but as good as we could have gotten to fix the mess the previous made.
I remember Rick Berman saying he wanted all of the original crew for the Enterprise-B scenes. All but Wm. Shatner, James Doohan and Walter Koenig declined, but if this scene had been a post-credits scene for “Generations”, it would had been a great way for Leonard Nimoy to had participated.
Even if it was a post-credit scene with both Leonard Nimoy and DeForest Kelly as Ambassador Spock and retired ADM Leonard McCoy paying their final respects to James T. Kirk.
This is amazing. I cannot believe the perfect attention to detail and the look of complete realism. Please go further with this. As a 44 year Trek fan, seeing new TMP era footage literally brought tears to my eyes. You have something special going here. Please go further with this. Seasons 1 and 2 don't add anything but contempt for TNG original characters and Rodenberry's vision and new uninteresting characters. You can see 3 ignoring they killed Picard and Data and enjoy it so very much more.

Same here. I grew up in the 80's, watching re-runs of TOS, and became a life long fan ever since.
I mean, the visuals here ARE stunning, but I absolutely adore the sound design in this. That kind of tone is what I want from Star Trek.
This short movie is more Star Trek than all episodes of Star Trek Discovery.
It seems heavily inspired by scenes at the beginning and end of Shatner's book "The Ashes of Eden", which got expanded upon at the start of "The Return".

This is the Star Trek I wish we’d get, at least in movies, today. It’s eerie yet mysterious, it’s slow yet suspenseful. No cliché effect or over-the-top action. The pace is just right and the story is a delight.

Because this is good Star Trek material post Berman, fanmade or not, which Paramount is somehow strongly against even though Star Trek is all that's keeping them afloat, and probably the only thing that'll give buying them out any value once they run out of money to do anything.

I think they're realising they can't simply ignore the older fanbase and act as if these new versions have much appeal.
They also realise they shouldn't follow in the footsteps of Disney/Star Wars or the MCU, which are dead or dying franchises while Star Trek still has enough of a fanbase left to revive itself should they choose to make Trek the way most viewers wanted it done.

What's the timeline of Starfleet going to get the D, and Spock visiting the planet?
If it occurred soon after the crash wouldn't the original crew have known, and not have been surprised about later finding the D?
Wasn't it only because many years had passed (when most were out of the loop) that no one knew it had been salvaged?
If so, then Spock's visit is many years after the events on Veridian III, or rather not at the same time as the salvage?
@@Radeo In Picard Season 3 Jorde says he has spent the last 20 years rebuilding the D. Generations was in 2371 and Picard Season 3 is 2401 so Jorde was working on it from approx 2381 to 2401. I would bet that Star Fleet didn't leave the D sitting there on Veridian 3 for very long so I would say this takes place in 2371 or 2372 at the latest.
This is one of the best things I have ever seen 😭 Lifted right from beginning of William Shatners: Ashes of Eden trilogy, one of my favourite books. It's incredible to think that the technology and skilled people like you exist now to make those ideas into a film. Mind. Blown.

Look up an AI startup called ElevenLabs, they use AI which can learn and recreate any voice which is fed as an audio data stream to it.
More than likely they could accurately have recreated Nimoy's voice with all the recorded audio of him.
Of course they would need the permission of his estate to do something like that but the quality and effect would be extremely cool.
We desperately need these kind of cinematics in Star Trek. Something that makes you feel small but part of the world.

Clicked on a playlist cuz I wanted some background music while doing something else and then this pops up after 15 minutes of music. Stopped what I was doing and had to watch this three times. Brought tears to my eyes and a lump in my throat. Bless Gene Roddenberry for creating Spock and Leonard Nimoy for bringing him to life. And bless you all for this wonderful tribute.
I'm not sure if anyone has pointed this out, but i LOVE the attention to detail on Kirk's badge, you even included the weathering that was on the actual prop from the scene!
This is cool! And Spock is played by an actor with prosthetic mask and blended with visual effects from footage. And he is quite convincing even without the CGI - at least in still image.
Yeah everyone thinks this is pure CGI, but actually the actor has an incredible likeness to Leonard Nmoy IRL. Theyve just closed the last 10% with makeup which has insanely good results. This actor can literally cash n on his genetics if he sticks with star trek projects...
I thought the face was AI. There are many creators using AI to generate lifelike images of people from history.
Well something about him was off putting to me. Reminded me of Lea and Takin in Rouge One or Luke at the end of mando S2.

This is beyond perfect. Having watched Spocks reaction to Sarek's passing in TNG's Unification is both the same and different all in one. With Sarek's passing, Spock was both bitter and sad that his father had passed away, and yet he felt he did not know him as well as he'd like to have. In this instance, Spock is reacting to an extremely close friend, who risked everything to bring him back. The opening shot of this video makes us realise the true damage caused by the Enterprise's landing, something we didn't see too well in the movie due to CGI still being in its early days for this sort of stuff, and there was more of a budget to work to. But the recovery ties in very nicely with what we got to see at the end of Picard, season 3. Just two things I wished were different - Picard's line in the movie ".....but unfortunately, the Enterprise D cannot be salvaged." And also, that Leonard was still with us, so he could enjoy this masterpiece with us.

@@jerrywinder7249 It was still like dying alone, because none of his friends (Spock, McCoy, Scotty, etc.) were with him when he died. Dying with a stranger nearby is quite different than dying with friends/loved ones with you.

Same here!!! When he picked up his badge and stared into the camera scene I got all tore up!!! I watched Generations close to a hundred times now. I remember ALL that took place in that movie. The saucer crashing onto the surface to the fight between Kirk and Soran. I cried when Kirk died in front of Picard. I was in my late 20s then and now I’m 41. I grew up on Voyager so to say cause that’s the show I watched when I was growing up when it was on UPN.
This scene from the book reminds me of the line FROM the book, "Imagine what it must be like to lose a friend, and then to 78 years later, lose him again?" Powerful scene that does not require any dialogue.

So this is my take- everything we see up to spock flashing back is actually his past self seeing the future ( Kirk's death could have really created a strong psychic moment) and as he snaps back it's glimpse of the enterprises destruction ( his soul was connected to bones who saw her go down) then finally back to his present which is in the motion picture I'm guessing right after the whole VGER event and I bet after spock connected to vger threw mindmeld you know he gained something from that and I think its inhansed abilities for sure .So this this was way cool and a wild future to past tie in.

This might be the best Star Trek clip I've ever seen. The shows and movies are great, but this short clip elicited a seriously powerful emotional response. I'm sure it's because Leonard isn't around anymore, and it makes me emotional to see him years after the fact, but then to jump to young Spock from the Motion Picture era? And to see the original NCC-1701 crashing on the Genesis Planet? I'm really in a state of shock. This was beyond fantastic.
Thats the -D garbage scow from ST:TNG, the original, and far more elegant ship was from the show in the 60s.
It's literally the first thing in 20 years that looks and feels star trek from the production values, the tone and the familiarity with the golden age in this franchise.

Very impressive. The attention to detail with the little facial tics and expressions is really impressive. You really feel that Leonard is looking out at you rather than it being a clinical, soulless piece of CGI.
It's a lookalike actor, not a deepfake. Spock is being played by Lawrence Selleck.
@@jaybluff281 Yes. But I thought the actor's face was CGI/Deepfake enhanced. Is that not the case? I'm pretty certain it is.
@@fraxis2007 Lawrence Selleck bares a near uncanny resemblance to Nimoy when he was young. What we saw is 100% prosthetics and make up to make him look exactly like Nimoy circa early 1990s and 1979. There's some behind the scenes shots of him in the make up chair. If there's any CGI involved, it's mostly for touch up purposes.
In hindsight, I think Spock would have investigated what the Nexus Ribbon was and made every attempt to save Kirk.

I am in awe over what all of you have done. You have taken Gene Roddenberry's vision and improved upon it considerably. My aunt, when she was alive, was a huge Star Trek fan. Her most prized possession was an autographed picture of Leonard Nimoy as Spock. She would have been sobbing if she saw this and she would have said thank you for making this happen. I think I can speak for a lot of people when I say - give us more.
The only real question here is which reveal elicited more emotion -- the immense hull of NCC-1701-D's saucer, or the OG Spock paying respects to his captain and friend. Just a brilliant piece of short filmmaking. Much love!

This is amazing! When I watched Picard and saw the crew reunited on the bridge of 1701-D I actually cried which I didn't expect. That's how good it felt. This featurette hits me in the same place.

I'm a month younger than TOS. I've been a fan basically since birth. I enjoyed pretty much every iteration of Star Trek (except Discovery but I don't judge those who like it - just wasn't my cup of Earl Grey). I am compelled to say this: this brought tears to my eyes that reminded me of Spock's death in Wrath of Khan and Kirk's witnessing of it through a barrier he couldn't cross. Spock now, at least metaphorically, couldn't cross the rocky barrier to forgo logic and touch his Friend - his Brother. THIS IS WHAT STAR TREK REALLY IS! "Space" is only the backdrop; the real adventure is the lives they've led.

I loved this video and wouldn't mind small tributes. But we will have the ability to render whole movies with dead actors. Indistinguishable from reality. Not really a fan of it going that far.
Oh my, this gave me chills and then I got so misty-eyed at the reveal of Spock I had to clear my vision and go back and rewatch it a few more times. The effects are stunning, the CGI rendering is very well done and respectful. I'm not ashamed to say that I cried when the news of the late Leonard Nimoy's passing broke in a way I have seldom cried in my life because Spock played such an important role in my adolescence and the continued wisdom and kindness of Mr. Nimoy was deeply touching to me. I never "knew" him in the sense his close friends and family did and I wouldn't have claimed to but the character he gifted us all with, I knew the character very well and I was undoubtedly one of many young people who felt very connected to Spock for different and equally personal reasons. So, I've been missing HIS Spock on screen and mourning over the knowledge that I would never again see new material of Mr. Nimoy as Spock, and then this 2-minute clip came along and it just hit me right in the chest in the best sort of way. Thank you for this, it means so much!

Absolutely sent shivers down my spine!! I would love to see another movie with a mesh original Star Trek and the next generation. Him picking up Kirk's rank and starring at it brings a lot of emotions!! Love this!!❤❤❤
Honestly, watching this whole clip from beginning to end, it makes you feel nostalgic, fills you with grief, and brings a little smile to your face. Seeing Spock retrieve Kirk's delta badge from Veridian III, that moment where he's staring out his apartment window, and the one that hit me the most: the sight of the original Enterprise at the end of _The Search for Spock_, that one hit me the most. Though it leaves me wondering, did Spock believe that the Enterprise may still be out there, waiting to be brought home, as the Enterprise-D was? What could that brief reappearance of the Enterprise's final moments mean? I guess we'll never know. All I will say is that this was a welcome appearance by Spock, and I could not have been happier to see the original best first officer in Starfleet one more time.

I think what it is trying to be convey is Spock's guilt. When old Spock retrieves Kirk's badge, he thinks back to all that Kirk sacrificed to bring him back (represented by the burning Enterprise - A). Spock learning that, during all those years since Kirk "died" on the Enterprise - B, he was actually in the Nexus and could have been brought back, further adds to his guilt.

Computers and AI are advancing so much every few years pretty soon will be seeing the original crew on board the Enterprise in new episodes continuing the five-year mission. I'm so happy that Roddenberry's vision of Star Trek is being preserved.

I'm actually wondering what sort of state the underside of the Enterprise-D saucer was in when they lifted her up. I'd imagine lot of the hull under there must've ripped off from dragging along the surface and knocking down trees during that crash. Geordi sure would've had his work cut out for him there when restoring her.
I could see tritanium backed up by force fields being many times stronger than rock and trees, but I bet the phaser arrays and windows got absolutely ruined.

You can see it in the last episode of Picard. It has obviously been repaired but it's still seriously scuffed up.
I really doubt rocks and trees affected her that much. You saw the ditch she ended up leaving during the crash.

James Kirk, his best and closest friend, his brother-in-arms, to whom Spock owed his very own life, the same Kirk, long thought MIA for 80 years, now finally dead, lost forever to him. The Vulcan half of Spock, acknowledging how logically his commanding officer Kirk behaved, sacrificing the needs of the one for the needs of the many. Both halves honoring a great officer and hero of Starfleet and the Federation. Both halves honoring their friend. This clip was lovingly done and quite moving. My eternal thanks for creating and sharing.
