New Axle Shaft Bearing from 1AAuto.com 1aau.to/ib/TKAXX00078
This video shows you how to install a rear axle bearing on your 2003-2011 Mercury Grand Marquis. If you hear a grinding or groaning noise while your vehicle is rolling, it might have a worn out wheel bearing. A worn bearing can allow the wheel to wobble, creating a host of other issues. To save yourself from more headaches down the road, replace your bearing right away. For solid rear axles, you'll need to replace the axle seal too.
This process should be similar on the following vehicles:

2006 Mercury Grand Marquis
2007 Mercury Grand Marquis
2008 Mercury Grand Marquis

I paid a "Transmission Garage" $1800 some 50'000 miles ago for repairing my Diff in my 2003 Grand Marquis. Passenger side is now leaking again. So after watching this excellent video decided to have a DIY. After removing the wheel, caliper, rotator and ABS sensor I read the words 'INDIA' on the axel which raised my suspicion of cheap replacement parts. Next was to remove the fill plug and cover but immediately noticed the three bolt top bracket had never been put back. Drained the Diff of oil and found that the amount of sludge proved that they had not cleaned out the sump then to my horror discovered they had rounded off the 8mm retaing bolt. I managed to unbolt it with 5/16 and some leverage keeping the spanner from sliping away. Removed the 'C' ring washer but cannot 'remove/take out' the axcel. Seems like the end bevel on the axel will notpass through the cog wheel. I can push the axel back into place and put the 'C' washer and main rod back in place, then remove them again, but same thing. Any advice help would be appreciated. P.S This garage went out of business a month after the repair.
Great video..... 08:32 if you are going to pull the bearing as well, just pull the bearing and seal together as one, so much easier and less chance of damaging the axle tube..
How is alignment shop going to help in the end?…
Using your video, I replaced both rear axle bearings this morning in 3 hours (mostly cleaning the cover) but did wait 2 hours to torque the differential cover to 33 ft lbs after coating both sides of the reusable gasket. The cover was obviously torqued too early previously since only the inner and outer sides of the cover had gasket maker. I reinstall the pinion bolt when working on each side like the FORD manual asks.to do. The torque for the ABS is 18 inch lbs and cover bolts is 33 ft lbs.
This was very helpful. Thank you.
Does this apply to Ford Crown Victoria's as well?
Thank you for an awesome video!!!!
Thank you
Is this the same process for a 99 grand marquis??
Tanks you for your video
Thanks for posting
When putting the C-clip back in, does it matter if you have the rounded edge facing outboard or inboard?
Great video
Will it be the same for a LSD differential?
Why use gasket maker and not a gasket just curious
For axel removal ?
Thank you, that’s not too munch of a pain,
What are some symptoms of these bearing going bad
So is there a bolt and pin for the right back wheel ?? Where is it ?
great vid , for the alignment question in my case car got rear ended bent axle and pushed the driver side inward so alignment shop it is, for others if car hit curb bent wheel it could throw rearend out of alignment.
+@hectorotani27 Thanks for the feedback! 1aau.to/m/Shop-TRQ
Can you rent one of those tools?
Awesome video but why the alignment ??
