I saw Bombino at a festival in California, and it was one of the best shows that I've ever seen. I've seen bands from Led Zeppelin to Frank Zappa, the Mahavishnu Orchestra, to Shakti, Railroad Earth, Vieux Farka Toure, the Meters etc. That Bombino performance ranked up there with the best. He had the crowd going nuts the whole time.
I love this music! If this guy had come to Ethiopia the whole crowd would have danced like it got shock from electricity because our dance matches this music. I love it.

I'm off to see Bombino & his band perform in a few hours. I only discovered him online 3 days ago, & mentioned these videos to my friends. Then yesterday I was walking downtown & I saw a poster saying he's playing here in my city tonight! How's that for coincidence? I burned a CD to give him that I thought he might like. It's Gabor Szabo, "Spellbinder". Reminds me a tiny bit of Bombino's music, but more jazzy & single note playing.
