I disagree that tau is only on the defencive. Yes, fire warriors is a defencive unit, but early game Vespids and Tau komannder harass can gain you a LOT of room. So rather then setting up defence at your base you can set up the defence at the middle of a map, or under opponents base (and suddenly it's a siege!) Also, fire warriors are extreamly position dependend. Right positioning with scatter formation where frontline can reatreat under the cover of the other squads, trick into the mines and such can make miracles.
As an avid Tau enjoyer who only ever plays with friends against AIs, I gotta say: Man, competitive Tau look boring as hell. Crisis suits and broadsides are some of my favorite units! Their animations and models are fantastic, and have some of the most dynamic customizable paint jobs in the game. Wonderful video regardless, but wow, I think I'll stick to the playground as far as Dawn of War goes lol.
You can 100% make use of the crisis suits and broadsides ect., in team games. Like I said I think they're wayyy more fun in team games rather than 1v1s
Stealth suits have access to infiltration early-mid game. Tau are much like the eldar where they trade in general units for specialized infantry. Fire warriors have extreme range for general infantry. This makes Stealth suits great for scouting and their weapons are well optimized for rapid ambush attacks.
There are in fact many solid 1v1 Tau players out there, and even outside of their obvious map near-auto-wins (Meeting of Minds...), there are some really cool builds that Tau can bring to the table even on smaller maps, especially early on. Vespid + Kroot Carnivore may seem like an ass-pull opener at first glance, but the level of aggression, mobility and follow up potential as you incrementally start adding firewarriors into the mix, while your commander and melee units keep being annoying, is pretty nuts. Preventing your early squads from getting wiped out is obviously paramount to the success here. Playing defensively and praying you'll somehow survive until t2 is, dare I say, what most of your opponents will hope for and use against you, so seizing the iniciative can really flip the script in most Tau matchups. If you do survivie until the late game, hovewever, there's another characteristic that sets apart pros from less experienced Tau players, namely whether you blindly rush into Mont'Ka and start adding Crisis Suits, or figure out how far ahead, or behind you actually are. 'Cause depending on how much better you traded up until this point, it is actually more often than not, better to go the extra mile and invest in t3 optics and metallurgy (in some cases even go for all the stealthsuit upgrades too). Long story short, Mont'Ka has some pretty neckbreaking hard counters due to being very one-dimensional and straight forward, whereas Kauyon, although more risky due to the time and investment reuired, is halla' more frustrating to deal with, but as the name suggests, requires more patience and planning.
You can actually use the kroots as some sort of tank by letting them screen your fire warriors and crisis suits. But you need atleast 3 units of them with kroot shapers so that they wont be easily wiped out and just reinforce and rotate them as much as possible during battle.
They CAN but in general that tends not to be the case. For example necrons build a single turret and then that harass is shut down. It's extremely micro intensive and if no damage is done you're hosed
I’ve only played the campaign on easy or normal mode and that’s been a walk in the park but seeing competitive fast paced play like this is revolutionary and I wish I could get better at it I just don’t know where to start
Stealthsuit scouts are not trash, they are worth reinforcing if you expect to receive an early rush. And at T2 their fusion blasters are strong against vehicles.
( ͡¬ ͜ʖ ͡¬) Legend says that once upon a time, decepticon Shockwave changed his mind into good purposes and began cloning himself to fund the Shockwave Children Nation, today known as TAU Empire. But that was an old legend.
OK yellow stance is no bueno for ranged tau units, make it blue blue and micro them for optimal position to fire 4 gen right at the start? and finally, download and use the AI skirmish mod, HIGHLY recommended (protip: you will probably lose, set AI micro to godly)
Kroot infantry to protect firewarriors. They can take out most heros early game. Pathfinders if your going to max firewarriors and more kroot to overwhelm them. Firewarrior range is, insane. I find vehicle beacons almost useless. Maybe a flyinf scout and thats it. Kroot all the way!
Tau is underrated. They're not that great in melee but with the Kroot backed up by their powerful ranged units like fire warriors and Hammerhead tanks in later game. Makes up for lack of melee. They do have a weakness by not being able to build turrets though so base defense is weak.
Tau is the second best race in the game. They move super fast, fire warriors resupply very quickly and battle-ready immediately unlike most infantry, plus those emp grenades + fusionbs on SS can take practically any vehicle out. Oh and with Kauyon upgrade, fire warriors shoot half way across the map.
Yeahhhh it's a lot more complicated than that, nobody just casually is going to let Tau reach that point. Like bigmek pressure with a stormboy+nob followup is usually gonna be death, SM/CSM marine flood is notoriously hard for Tau to deal with, DE is basically a wash matchup wise and Tau basically cannot stop IG turret rush ect., ect., So like yeah they're good and all but it usually isn't going to work like that
Dark Reapers are more battle ready tbh. They have 5 less range in exchange for better DPS and health and no setup time. Fire Warriors are also a lot easier to tie up in melee because of their slower speed and setup time.
@@spectre9065 Fucking Eldar moving at mach 5 is so bullshit Like "Oooohhhh they're so micro heavy, so it balances out"; Motherfucker just press tab and toggle it on and off, no unit is catching up to you.
Tau are a defensive race? Since when? As far as I'm aware they've always been considered more offensive and less defensive: * No turrets. * No Mines. * Lots of Jumping units. * Lots of Stealth units. * Mont'Ka is purely offensive. * T1 Vespid + Tau Commander combo etc. etc etc.
any tips for the tau soulstorm campaign? I’ve tried it like twenty times on the easiest difficulty trying out different strats but still keep getting shit on by the orks.
I'm not sure I understand the question. I've uhh... never had to mess with any settings for it. I just slap in the files and zoom in or out to my hearts content
I think you need to be aggressive with tau to win. If you don't vesped open. Go TC 3xFW with mines and a SS for vision then bate battles force them into overwatching and tech up behind it. If they commit to t1 get a forth FW squad. It feels kind of spammy. But with Tau knocking on your door. It's not a good day for the opposition.
If I'm using Tau against Necrons in 1v1, what should I do? My Fire warriors usually get rushed by a necron lord and are unable to shoot correctly while their necron warriors move slowly towards me, cornering my units and killing them. Kroot have been helpful, but it seems like everything I do is not enough, and I don't seem to have the resources for more units, what should I do against an early necron attack?
Just need micro. Keep your FW out of NW range. Focus on having multiple small squads instead of 1 full squad early game, it allows you to spread out your FW to prevent getting tied up in melee.
@@Kazrim I think he meant the normal font ingame is too small to read not that the video quality is messing with it. There is a mod that makes the font larger ingame as well as ui mods that makes everything clearer.

In Dark Crusade Mont'ka was great. Hammerheads were anti-everything once you get them. Then Soulstorm bestowed Tau with the Barracuda.

Another tip is to put your stealthsuits on cease fire so they don't give away their position by shooting.
