For her piece of mind, you don't really have to kill any mob to enjoy the game. Yes, sometimes you need to slay the "occasional" skeleton or zombie (or spider, creeper, etc.) just to survive; but if you put the difficulty to peaceful, your game experience would basically be farming/building sim.

My wife and I have been together 30 years. She used to be the gamer in the family. Final Fantasy, Prince of Persia, Tomb Raider, Sly Cooper, just to name a few. SSX and TRICKY were two we played together.
I started playing Minecraft six years ago. She's never taken an interest, though. In my current world, I've built her a horse trail and built up a village for her and each of my three kids.
Her reactions are quite similar to Syd's, lol. I could definitely relate to the dynamic between you two.
I'm glad she supports you and would love to see her in more videos if she's up for it.

This brings me back to my mom telling me and my brother not to say that we "died" when playing Mario on NES. She knew arcade games, she was a Space Invader pro, but as an adult I have to agree she had every right to find it disturbing that her small children kept talking about "dying".
I also remember when it stabbed me in the heart to have to kill and inbreed animals in my first Minecraft days. Now I don't associate them as much. While I don't think about it anymore, I still wouldn't have designed the game like that if it were me 😅
First off, Syd has a great laugh. It's really pleasant and infectious.
Secondly, I forget how weird Minecraft actually is until someone who isn't used to it is reacting to it. Then it's like "oh, right, this IS a very strange thing we're all into, isn't it?" lol. (In the best way, of course.)
I love that the person she enjoyed watching was Oli (I mean, what's not to love?)😂😍 Seriously though, it was really funny to watch from her perspective!

Loved seeing you guys together! I remember when I first started playing Minecraft, I had a real problem with killing the animals. It seemed so cruel to me too, However, it's amazing how quickly you forget that when you are starving and going to die in-game, When I realized how much saturation and health steak gave me, (and when I realized how much I needed leather for books), I stopped caring. It is a game, after all.
I've recently started playing minecraft, and I'm experiencing exactly that! Haha.
It was so cute to see the person you love the most in the world interacting with this part of your life. I would love to see Syd introduced to beginner type stuff now that she has been thrown into the deep end with your builds and jokes.

Maybe you should both get Minecraft on the switches so that you have a try at it Syd and Fwip will be closer to your level as it's console controls and bedrock (different mechanics)

This was fun to see her reactions. I totally get that she doesn't like to kill the animals. When I play Minecraft, I try to avoid killing animals as much as possible. But I have no problems killing skeletons, zombies, creepers etc. They will kill me if I don't kill them. I really, really, don't like it when people kill horses. I usually do farms with entity cramming if I really need meat or other resources. Or if I can just find a mansion, I will steal all of the books.
