I really appreciate that this cover doesn't do any unnecessary flourishes like I see in a lot of metal covers, like random, out of place pinch harmonics, or superfluous arpeggios. Marty's music may get very layered but it often has very deliberate placement of the notes and gives each part a unique purpose. Really enjoy this!

That's because "We're The Desperate Measures" isn't a real song from ODST. It's a fan edit of 4 *different* songs from the game, each of which have different, official real names. For instance, the one from NMPD HQ is actually called "Air Traffic Control" and was composed by Stan LePard, along with Marty and Mike ofc. There is no track in the Bungie Halo games called "We're the Desperate Measures." It's just misinformation.
It's so weird that this misinformation has reached a point where fans have nicknames for 4 different songs. Just use the real names lol

My knowledge of Halo is almost none existent. However I do know of its amazing music, and knowing you, this was clearly going to be amazing!
Honestly, even among Halo music, ODST was something special. Had one hell of a moody vibe to it, but also sometimes you got hard hitters like this. :)
'Breaking the Covenant' and 'Follow in Flight' have some good guitar

You gotta get Master Chief Collection and play all the Halo games (well, almost all, only 2 games out of the 8 are missing) you will not regret it. Halo is an experience. I recommend you play it in release order (so that would be Combat Evolved, 2, 3, ODST, Reach, then 4).
Highly recommend playing MCC as well, but strongly advise against playing Halo 5 and maybe Infinite. Halo Infinite isn't too bad but it still has to play off of Halo 5, a game about as fun as getting a vasectomy, and about as faithful to the lore as the live action Dragonball movie.
the bass line is what sets the tone in halo´s music.

FUN FACT: There are multiple songs from halo that share themes and melody this happens to be one of them. It shares many themes from Covenant Dance, themes like the similar driving drum beat and bass line sharing a similar flow. You can hear Covenant dance in Hunter’s Dance in halo infinite.
Awesome! Amazing rhythm guitar tone as always. I believe this one is called 'The Menagerie' on the OST. Halo OSTs are always the best. So much emotion. Halo ODST is one of my favorites from the series.
Yeah, it's been a while since I looked it up, but I think The Menagerie was a suite of OSTs that included this track. The Skyline suite if I remember right.
