Mohammed Shami led an inspired bowling display as India hammered England by 100 runs on Sunday to stay unbeaten in the World Cup and all but push the defending champions out of the semi-final race. Chasing a tricky 230 for victory in Lucknow, England collapsed to 129 all out in 34.5 overs to suffer their fifth defeat in six matches and leave their title defence at the mercy of a mathematical miracle. The hosts have six wins in as many games. 59th win for India in World Cups going past New Zealand's 58; only Australia have won more (73). This is the first instance of England losing four World Cup matches in a row.
Chasing 230, we fancied ourselves, same old story. I wasn't sure if dew would come or not. We bowled well, took wickets, we would have taken 229. Personally, I wanted to soak some pressure up and then build a partnership and kill the momentum that India had. It's about committing and executing your skill. There wasn't scoreboard pressure. We are just falling short whichever way we are doing it. Some top players, we are a long way short of our best. Excellent start in the powerplay, there was a bit of indifferent bounce, the ground fielding was good. It felt like today was the day, but we didn't back it up with the bat. We still got lots to play for.

Looking at where we were after the first 10 overs it was really important to create that partnership with KL Rahul. It was a challenging pitch, it got better to bat on as the game progressed, but happy with that win. I have got experience, it's not only about going out there and playing my shots (got to assess the conditions and situation) as well. It was necessary for me to create that partnership with KL. I still felt we were 20 runs short (at the halfway stage). Batting against the new ball was a bit challenging, the ball got softer and it wasn't easy rotating strike either. Like I said we were 15-20 runs short, but I will take that win any day.

While the hotel staff where Team India is staying refused to share details of their meals, sources said a few players were deeply interested in Lucknow’s famous cuisine and explored it. The food and beverages director of the hotel where the English team’s staying, Rohit Mishra, told TOI, “We worked without a break to bring flavours of England to Lucknow and serve our guests the most delicious and super healthy cuisines. The dishes were decided keeping in mind their super energy needs and the famous English palate. Honey-glazed pork cooked without oil was our top choice. Since we used belly pork which has fat, the preparation did not require any oil. It is rich in calories and nutritional value too. Lastly, our quinoa pilaf cooked on a low flame that melted in the mouth was a winner,” he added. “Other than these, we have also rolled out Lakhnavi dishes, galawat kebab, dum ka gosht, warqi paratha (layered paratha) and khamiri roti for the English cricketers,” Mishra said.
