“Frugal Toile”, like that term. Gets me more motivated to make them. Scandinavian Dressing, interesting. Maybe that’s why I always wore a yellow shirt to work on days it rained. And, they made fun of me at work! Hah! who knew I was ahead of the curve 😊. Liked all the topics you shared today. And, yes, hoping JoAnn’s survives somehow.
Hello again from Atlanta! I’m hoping to get brave this summer and attempt a knit t-shirt. In the meantime, I’m obsessed with small projects like quilted placemats with matching napkins. I’ve spent a good bit of time practicing both sewing and serger skills and I’m feeling more confident. ❤
Hi Janine! Things are slow here as well! but I traveled to “meet” my new grandson this month. That was a blast loving on that tiny baby! Earlier this week I went to a sewing retreat for 3 1/2 days it was fun. It was quilting which I don’t do much of but my friend is determined to make me a quilter! I made 3 quilt blocks and put them together to be either a wall hanging or table runner. Before my trip when it was Very cold in the US, I made an oversized half zip sweatshirt out of a thick sweatshirting . I had the fabric in my stash so in girl math it was free! I love how it turned out and it’s super cuddly.
Congratulations on your new grandson! I know this is a wonderful time for you and your family 🩵 You’ve been really busy! I know those quilters keep trying to convert us - lol - Will it stick? I’m a firm believer in the theory of Sunk Cost. So yeah, that sweatshirt is free!
Hello from Tampa. I love the turtle. This month I hope to start some things for summer in linen. It will be my first time sewing with linen. Fingers crossed! PJ
I took up sewing some hats, fleece, or sherba peaked caps for hubby, clouche for me...easy pleasy once I got patterns from Canadian, Mad Cap Hats. Warmth, style & fun to make. Made a few quilted coats that I wear as cardigans using charity shop blankets; PJ's, & rag dolls for the latest great granddaughters ... now planning a few things for spring... loving the tired dresses & homestead midis style. Enjoy the community pool to keep active 😅🇨🇦. Really like your content, always informative & interesting! 😊
It’s amazing how you make so many things! It must be so satisfying to have that skill set. A quilted jacket sounds like a fun make. Do you have a favourite pattern?
Well, you have inspired me once again. I have been eyeing the Simplicity blouse pattern for some time now and the material you've bought for a toile is just beautiful. So that pattern is still definitely on my list. Lovely little turtle! Thanks for sharing.
I’m wintering in Mesa. Yes there many Joann’s nearby. Some a disaster some are good. I do not sew as many clothes down here. I’ve made some bags , the Sandhill sling and zippy bag. I’ve also made placemats, pot holders, crib sheets for a nicu, small quilts, recovered chairs and even a hat. We have a sewing room and it’s great to have in person sewing friends. I do hope Joann’s survives.
Your turtle is darling! Your concord looks good. As a quilter I warn you of the dangers (and fun) of quilting and you can make and donate small sizes to your local children's hospital. I also need to make some basics because I lost weight and when I went on vacation last week, I could really see my basics are too big :(
also thanks for the article! I usually wear bold black and red plaids, reds in the winter...If I have something dark, I will put a white turtleneck under for a pop of bright color. If you need help with your quarter inch seam, take a stack of post its and stick it to the side to use a guide. There's also magnets or a 1/4" foot that has a a guide, like a metal finger sticking towards you, that you can go a little faster and not worry too much about guiding yourself. Another trick is just using a piece of washi tape to track along. Make a sample to see where your quarter inch is then put a long piece across your machine. Helps the eye to have something to track straight with as most machines kind of pull left after stitching. Have fun! Craft sewing is awesome! I made my great nephew a small (about 6 inches high) bird every month and sent it to him. He is 4 and loves birds and I tried to make seasonal and local bird each month! Was fun and a challenge! Especially since I am cheap and I wanted to use free patterns (or had to make my own)
Cute turtle Janine. Looking forward to seeing your blouse made up. Part of the reason I took up sewing for myself about two years ago was so that I could have some brighter clothes to wear in the winter. I agree that "winter" colours are pretty drab and they do bring me down emotionally in cold weather. Last year I made a hot pink longline cardigan for winter and it was my favourite piece to wear with darker outfits, made me happy and received many compliments. Currently I've just completed my first short sleeved, rayon men's shirt for hubby and he's stoked. It's the middle of Summer here in Australia so he's going to get some great wear out of it.❤
I am trying to get a pair of pants to fit and getting really frustrated. I wish I had someone locally to give me advice. Your turtle is cute. Those little things are fiddily.
Lori, it’s so difficult to fit without another pair of eyes, but mostly someone to pin and look. Before I had local friends I used to prop up a camera and take pictures. It helped some!
Very nice top and cute little turtle. I haven’t been able to sew in regards to pain from this surgery. If I do manage to get the pain under control I’m usually wiped out and just want to sleep. I am walking and trying to build up my strength. I get the drainage tube out Monday and I’m hoping that will help reduce the pain. Did you have a drainage tube with the laparoscopic procedure?
I used to love wearing color in the winter, but now that I’ve let the “gray” come in I feel more muted colors suit me better. Black has never been a color I liked to wear. I just completed a LN Chorus dress and I really like it!
Joanne came in, undercut the many independent fabric shops, thus ran them out of business. Joanne who now had a monopoly never met my needs. I hope some other sewing company steps up and does a better job for us bc I agree we need to touch and see the fabric we buy. But I’m not hopeful.
Barbara, it’s such a shame how the garment sewing industry is completely dominated by one company. I truly hope that some enterprising individuals start opening garment fabric stores in places where there aren’t choices. Maybe we’re too close to the garment sewing community but it seems like there is demand to touch fabric before buying. And to shop in stores that want to support our sewing practices.

Love the turtle I wear colour every season nice to see you were heading towards autumn 😊😊😊

The turtle is super cute!! Soak in all the sunshine and warmth while you can - it’s really cold up here 😂

I am so glad you liked my pattern choice. I love your fabric selection. It is so happy and uplifting!
Thank you again for the suggestion! I’m hoping this first attempt turns out well because that fabric is so happy.

I’m so glad you have a sewing room and local friends to sew with. It’s a real blessing to have that kind of community!
That turtle is adorable! I might try the pattern. Puffy-sleeve blouse looks very promising.

@ Thank you for the suggestion. That should be better than trying to twist around to see the back.

Hi Janine. I enjoyed watching your video! Are you not in the states?
