- In this video I review the Baby Taylor Guitar, AKA BT1 or BT-1. It's one of my favorite guitars to play because it's so small. I travel often with it. Intonation is great! Stays in tune great! LOVE this little guitar. For more free lessons and guitar ebooks go to www.yourguitars... thanks for stopping by today. :)

Thanks again for watching this review on the Baby Taylor Guitar BT1. I hope you have a wonderful day and I'll see you in another video.
Practice your guitar.

:)
Love this guitar. I was traveling to California and needed a guitar after not having one for a day. So I got this. It does fit nicely in the overhead compartment. The so called "gig bag" is probably the nicest carrying case for a guitar I have seen in a while. Super durable. Just a gem in my opinion for the 300. Thanks for the review bro
You’re a pig. Bro.

Happy for you ...so much fun getting a new axe! Stay in touch. I appreciate your comments :)

The Mahogany (BT2) one will sound a little warmer, and the Spruce (BT1) will sound a little brighter. Having tried both of them; I definitely think the BT1 sounds better, but it's down to opinion more than anything else.
Intonation is your guitars ability to have tone that remains in tune as you go up the neck. When you tune your guitar it should additionally be exactly in tune at the 12th fret.
Great guitar for kids. I got my daughter one for Christmas when she was 9 and she loves it. Her instructor can't believe the sound that comes from such a little guitar.
Chuck Jackson Good to hear. Thank you for the comment & evaluation. Rock on!

I am going to Memphis TN for my birthday, this guitar seems good for travel and it sounds amazing when played.
Watched this video at least three times today cause I'm excited about about getting mine in two days time. Can't wait
Yeah! Happy for you Ewan! Please, let me know when it arrives and how you like it! Once again...congrats!
Please, stay in touch.

❤The Baby is the Bomb❤ For boat rides I use the Martin Backpacker it makes a better paddle. 😊
I agree with you Yoman1634. I've had my mini GS for nearly a year now and it has simply been my favorite guitar to grab here at home. As time has passed, it just seems to get better and better. It's has a ton of sustain and a big voice for it's size especially when using the recommended using the Elixir medium strings. (Med strings seem to be better on short scale guitars). But all in all the choice is up to each individual. All I know is I love the 3/4 size guitars.
Just got one for Christmas!!!!!!! Great guitar!!!
Yeah!!!!! So happy for you! Hope you enjoy it. Please, stay in touch and let me know!

Hi, you said it's neck thru, not bolt on, but I'm pretty sure it's a bolt on. Are there two screw heads in the fretboard around the 16th feet?
Good demo though, thanks.
Yes you’re right, unless maybe they weren’t bolt on necks when that video was made.
Reviews for the newer mahogany are extremely good and they say the difference in the two is the Spruce top is a bit more bright, the Mahogany more warm. I really like the darker look too. But one thing is for sure, I know based on my GS mini I've had for 9 months (spruce top), the Mahogany is probably fantastic as well. Thanks for the feedback as it gives me more incentive to go scoop up the mahogany then for the heck of it, I'll have both :)
"I use this thing when sitting in bed"?... must be pretty awesome.
Handy & convenient. How are you Martin? Please, do stay in touch. I appreciate all comments. And be sure to check out the Holiday Specials from time to time.
e :)
I went in and played around with the Baby Taylor, Taylor Mini GS, and Little Martin. I fell in love with the Taylor Mini GS (spruce). Bought mine about 9 months ago and I must say I have zero "buyers remorse" I just love it. It has a much bigger voice than the other two, has fantastic playability, sustain, and stays in tune rock solid for a 3/4 size guitar?
I grab that one more than my Ovation and Les Paul. I'm not kidding either.
In fact I will also get the newer (mahogany top) very soon!
How is the weight balance? Is it heavy in front like a hammer or balanced? What happens if you just let it sit in your lap?
it is in fact a bolt on neck. you can see the bolts on the fretboard. it takes about 5 minutes to take the neck off and it fits in a suitcase
Great review, great lessons I'm so thankful to have come across this channel. Keep up the great stuff. Own a mini and it is amazing but I'm grabbing a baby in about six hours and I'm like a kid at Xmas can't sleep super excited.
+Craig Kimball Thank you Craig. Stay in touch and let me know how you are doing. e:)
Sigma 00M-15 or Taylor baby bt1? I can't choose what to buy
Finally, someone mentions intonation. God bless you brother.
When I went in to GC, I sat down with the Little Martin, the Baby Taylor, and the Mini GS. To me, the mini GS was better than the other two by a mile. Hands down no brainer to me. Took it home and will keep it forever. I may even get another in the rosewood or mahogany that they now have out. Those weren't available went I bought mine. Just go to your local guitar store and feel for yourself.
We ordered a baby taylor from guitar center for my sister that has Taylor Swift written on it... You can imagine my confusion. I ended up calling guitar center to confirm that it was a real, taylor brand guitar.. I end up playing it more than my sister so I can sound like Ed Sheeran when i'm playing his stuff since he plays on 3/4th guitars.. Anyways thanks for the review and the AWESOME guitar lessons yourguitarsage.. Keep it up brother (:
Hi, how does it compare to the Little Martin?
Yoman1634: The GS Mini is bigger and cost more also. Not really a fair comparison imo...
I love my GS Mini. It is a little bigger and a bit more costly but the difference in sound is worth both increases
I'd go with the Taylor GS Mini. THAT guitar sounds way bigger and fuller than it actually is. This guitar is good too but the BIG BABY sounds and plays amazing.
Played this guitar at my local shop, sounds nice, im a really big fan of small guitars or 'parlour' size guitars. I find dreadnoughts really uncomfortable for me, but the only complaint I have with this is its super super neck heavy, the thing just wants to fall over when you put it on your lap. Nonetheless, great vid.
***** Thank you my friend. Stay in touch & keep rockin! e:)
Would you suggest the Baby Taylor BT1 over the BT-2 Mahogany guitar? What would the differences be?
I was gifted a BT1e and didn’t know if I would use it but like you said “ great couch guitar or travel guitar. “. I particularly like the punch tone it can produce with finger picking. The only downside is maybe the fret spacing with my big fingers but you get use to it in no time . The tuner on the e version is not very good but the pickups make it sound bigger that it is.
So yours is a thru neck? Mine‘s bolt on, which I like, because it’s easy to set up. Nice little intro to the guitar, thanks 👍🏻
Recently bought a Baby Taylor built in April 1999 (so just a few months after the NT neck was introduced). It had been well played and rather abused, but after adjusting the neck to lower the action it has a great played-in tone and volume. The NT necks are an absolute boon when you need to make subtle adjustments.
Mine has the unusual half-hoop bracing in the upper bout. As yet, I haven't found much information about that and I'm not sure when Taylor stopped installing it.
What was the first song ?
Seems recognisable.
You're awesome Erich! Love this guitar as well, great for traveling but mine doesn't really stay in tune that great but still worth it!
You said the neck wasn't bolted on, but that isn't true. It has two screws between the 16th and 17th fret. As a result, it isn't very secure and will change tone if you pull back even slightly.
Your finger picking sounds absolutely beautiful. I’d love to hear a lesson whatever it was you were playing there.
It comes with Elixr Light gauge strings. Got mine about 2 yrs ago. Sounds great for the size.
Hi, I am thinking of getting a guitar, but torn between getting a baby or a full sized guitar. Well, my consideration is because I'll be travelling abroad soon (early next year, and I am thinking of bringing the guitar along) so a baby would be great. How resistant is a BT to travel stress? It sounded good for such a small guitar :)
I travel with mine all the time :) Let me know what you decide. Hoping you are having a great Spring and rockin' it out.
e :)
yourguitarsage Thanks, sure I will (after my exams). Keep up the reviews, they're great. :) Also for a full sized guitar, is Alvarez AF30CE, comparable to yamaha or takamine of the same size? I think there are lots of dreadnought for yamaha. but i prefer the grand audi shape :)
*****
Thanks my friend.
e :)
TheFantasyFen you should get a baby dude. I’m traveling abroad soon too. I just bought this guitar it is really good. And a full size is just a pain in the ass to travel with😂😂
Hope you don't mind if I ask an almost embarrassingly silly question. What's the deal with the pickup in this thing? I've been playing a Little Martin for a year or so now which I love and I recently scooped up a BT1 off Craigslist. It's got the input jack but I can't figure out where the battery compartment is. I can't see it being a passive pickup but I can't locate anywhere to change the battery!
what is that song on 3:20? Sounds amazing :)
"Kids" by MGMT
I've had a Baby Taylor for several years, and I love it. It is a great sounding, tough little guitar that stays in tune and travels well. And it easy to grab and play sitting almost anywhere.
Love mine.
Do you think this is a good main guitar? My full size just broke but I love the smaller guitars! I will also fit it with an amp port
Yes it's great.. especially for travel!
Guitar Lessons with Your Guitar Sage I got the Gs mini mahogany and I love it!
I was gonna say, that's probably what you should have bought. They're better guitars IMO.
+Harry Emmott yeah, I'm glad I didn't get the baby. I'm super happy with my GS mini
Jonathan Daniel Played one in London the other day, super sweet. Sounded divine, sounded almost as big as a full size taylor that cost £100 more (I'm in Britain) and it was so easy to play as it has the shorter scale length, so easy in fact that I could play the electric version of Layla on it. I fell in love and now I'm saving up.
I just bought the Koa edition here in Canada and paid close to $900 after tax. It was $769 plus taxes so like $200 more then a cedar or mahogany one , is it worth it or did I jump the gun ?
how would you compare it to a little martin?
My wife has a full size dreadnought she could use as a life-raft. She could use a smaller guitar to accompany her singing. We have some savings and don't plan on collecting guitars so we could spend more than this for just the right thing. Is there another guitar to look at with that in mind? Or is this $300 that will beat anything up to $1000 or so? Great review, BTW. Really appreciate it.
It has a lot to do with personal choice...how it feels, sounds, price; etc. Let me know what you get, :)
e
yourguitarsage We went to Des Moines to see an Iowa Cubs game with the kids and I convinced her to stop at an independent guitar store. She got a Taylor 324. Goes well with her voice and feels right, like you said it should. Unless she goes metal, our guitar shopping days are over.
Fritz Groszkruger So good to hear Fritz! Hope you have many happy days & nights enjoying fun filled hours of music. Stay in touch and let me know how she is doing!!!!! Keep it rockin!
e :)
I believe Martin has one the competes with it. I believe that's what my wife has and she likes the sound better.
Thanks for this video, I'm wondering if this is a good beginners guitar? You made it look easy to play, but your a pro.
It's as easy as another guitar.:) Glad you like the vid Nick.. Stay in touch!
e :)
Beautiful picking! Love it. What tune is that at 3:22 ?
Kids mgmt
dig it. Please do more of these guitar review, guitar accessories/tools videos
What did you play while doing fingerpicking???
Dude, I just used your Rehab tutorial from 2009. I am looking into Taylor GS-Mini, and although this is a slightly different guitar, It is still the same idea. When on holiday, I travel via Motorhome and I need a guitar that is small and easily packed away. I've been looking at the GS-Mini Koa-E. The guitar you're using is pretty nice, but the tone isn't the nicest tone, is it? Do you have any new recommendations for small carry guitars for travelling? My current guitar is a Fender Sonoran and it's my baby. I've had it for 5 years and it's amazing, minding it's odd dents (I had a dog that would knock it over in the night, even when it was on a stand).
Megan B A Fender Sonoran u say? Tell me more! I’m looking into that particular one but can’t find a lot of info!
If u mean the Sonoran mini, 3/4 size acoustic guitar with an (awesome) Stratocaster headstock????
@Homegirl1982 I totally agree. I've owned the gs mini since last December and when I go to the guitar store it's still the first guitar I grab. Lol. That's how much I love it. Amazing value.
Thanks for the awesome review, sounds great! I also love 'spay and neuter' at the end, hilarious! :)
Kate Thank you Kate. Glad you are "on board" about the fur babies! Keep rockin and stay in touch! e:)
Increadible review :) thanks - you earned your subscription.
But one question. Is the Baby Taylor BT1 the same as the Baby Taylor 305(-GB) ? I am a bit confused since I found this model while searching the latter.
Hope you can help me out there
keep it up
Thank you so much my friend! I don't think they are the same guitar but I don't know for sure. I have not heard of that one.
Hey great review and love this guitar hopefully I get
This for Christmas I'm 12 I've been playing guitar for. Few years it would be ideal for me going to France next year 🇫🇷 hopefully I get it 😊 I can't wait what would recommend the Martin lx1e or this I can't decide tho anyway thanks for the great review 😄 🎸🎸🎸🎸 keep rocking
Great review. I just bought the guitar for my 5th grade daughter. She seems to like it, I know I do.
Do you live in Nashville? I just love all your videos they are so helpful and great! thank you so much!

Hey Erich, new subsciber here (and new member of the UGS family!). I just got a Fender Malibu Player (a/e), and it's small like the one in your video. I specifically chose that size because I love smaller acoustic guitars, and the one I bought is SWEET! I absolutely love it! But yeah, I like that Baby Taylor. Maybe that'll be my next acoustic?! Great video.
The Baby Taylor is 3/4 size. The Malibu isn’t that small.
Great review!
By the way, do you think the Baby Taylor would also be appropriate for a 8-year old boy?
Thank you Fernando. I would take him to a music store and try it out. Let me know :)
e :)
The stores in my country don't carry this model unfortunately...
But thanks a lot for the reply!
Fernando Izelli
You are so very welcome Fernando. Please, stay in touch.
e :)
+Fernando Izelli it's actually perfect size for an eight-year-old.
What was that song you finger picked? I KNOW it but I can't think of it!!
Kids by MGMT :)
I really like the fingerstyle playing !
Thanks for the great review, as usual! Maybe it’s my ears, but the intonation sounded ... rough. Like, not in the neighborhood of ok. That’s always been my issue with these guitars.
Totally agree with this.
He himself makes the guitar sound good because he can play. The guitar itself would not be my first choice even if I was looking for a “travel guitar.”
I know the song you played was kids, but did you get the tab from a website?
No, that was an arrangement that I came up with myself. One of my students did transcribe it and uploaded it to ultimate guitar. I believe it's the sixth version acoustic.
I have a lesson for it here on UA-cam as well if you just search.
Hey, nice video :)
Do you think it is possible to put higher strings on this Baby Taylor to have an higher tune, like on a requinto ? Or would it twist the neck ?
Thinner strings will not twist the neck. However, you would need to have the nut recut for thinner strings. There are Nashville strung guitars specifically made for this however. Wechter makes a good one and I do a review for it here on UA-cam.
How is the song at 3:18 called again?
Ohh man!! I would definitely buy it for my acoustic gigs ♥️💕
👍
What's the first song? I know I know it, i just can't place it
Hi! first of i i love your videos really learned a lot while i was a beginner. Now i got a question. I would really love to get me a baby taylor but cant choose between mahogony or spruce. What do you people think is the best sounding?
Nice review man, but someone can tell what's the name of the guitar that is in the back, it looks like a 3/4 too in Mahogany with the white stripes. Thanks
On the left? That's a ukulele made by Córdoba.
Baby taylor or yamaha jr2s?
Beautiful song towards the end. What was it you played?
Sounds like Faded
I know this was a year ago but it's kids by MGMT
Hi. What's the song you're playing at 3:20 ? :P
Cool review! Thanks!
Pascal music Thank you Pascal. Glad it helped. Stay in touch. e:)
What is that song you're playing at 3:20? Thanks!
GS mini in koa. Beast
I have one. They are so nice 😎👍🏻 tones are beautiful
I was about to get this but i feel like they just too small. Do yall recommend these than other acoustic brand guitar? lmk asap! thanks people.
I have guitar recommendations at Kit.com/YourGuitarSage
Do a review of the Little Martin or compare please :)
What's that song called when u did the finger plucking cuz I wanna learn it on mine?? Cuz it sounds really nice
Kids by MGMT ! Stay in touch my friend.
e :)
i want this guitar :O my local music shop has i in left handed for £260 is this a good price? x
Im thinking about buying this next week, is it worth it? 😊
It depends on what you need, but it's a good guitar
YourGuitarSage i mostly play fingerstyle
How do you clean this kind of varnish finish?
is this a good guitar for beginners?
Yes, easy to play.
Is this size of guitar easier to play than a full size acoustic guitar? Cheers.
It’s smaller. Somewhat easier.
@@yourguitarsage thanks for the reply 👍👍
can you play the baby taylor amplified or isn't that possible?
no, but you could easily add a pickup if need be
You could mic it or put a pick up into it.
+misschrissles ;)
What's the name of the song you played at 3:22, or is it just improvising?
MGMT - Kids
Hey guys! I'm 11 years old and I was just wondering if the Concert size guitar is too big for me or if its just right for me?
You gotta try it out friend.
What's the name of the last song you played ??
I think its Kids by MGMT?
Yes it is thank you very much !! :D
Lisa German
You are right Lisa....thank you!
e :)
Yes, what Lisa said!
+Lisa German :-)
Sounds great when your strumming or fingerpicking! good demo! :-) LOVE smaller sized acoustics. Thinking of getting one. Thanks! :-)
Thank you Mario. Appreciate your very kind comment! Love my Baby Taylor. Take it with me when I travel! Stay in touch!!!!
e :)
@bottlecap33 I thought the big baby was the guitar with the two screws going through the fingerboard...could be wrong though.
I was inquiring about one of these to a respectable luthier/guitar tech, and he told me to stay away from these. Since this guitar doesn't have the binding, a good knock could break off the top or back piece of the guitar from the sides..
Bobby59 that’s what happened to my Taylor GS mini I tapped back of guitar and it cracked to not repairable condition.....
what song are you playing at 3:22?
MGMT- Kids. The chorus.
+Sebastian Schroeder ;)
What Sebastian said :-)
+yourguitarsage thanks, where can i possibly find the tabs for it?
just picked up one of these for $150! I love the sound and yeah ive been playing in bed too.. no excuses with this thing.
:)
Jesse Jessee Where???? :)
150?!
+Guto Santana I see these on craigslist a lot!
+Omar Garcia that's a steal!
What shape is the neck ?
This guitar is amazing!!!! I use strictly ibanez guitars but its amazing
PS, BTW I'm izzy. This is my UA-cam handle (Budo Master).
Thanks again Eric.
You are so welcome! Please, stay in touch.
e :)
good for recording ?
Yes!
What about nylon strings on one Erich, my son keeps telling me that's the way to go. This would be my second guitar and the other one is a Sigma full size with steel strings.
You would have to get the nut recut for nylon as the strings are wider. However, there are mini nylon string guitar is out there.
Eric, would this be a good guitar for my 5 years old son?
Yes!
that finger picking was beautiful 🤤
