  • In this video I review the Baby Taylor Guitar, AKA BT1 or BT-1. It's one of my favorite guitars to play because it's so small. I travel often with it. Intonation is great! Stays in tune great! LOVE this little guitar. For more free lessons and guitar ebooks go to www.yourguitars... thanks for stopping by today. :)

    Love this guitar. I was traveling to California and needed a guitar after not having one for a day. So I got this. It does fit nicely in the overhead compartment. The so called "gig bag" is probably the nicest carrying case for a guitar I have seen in a while. Super durable. Just a gem in my opinion for the 300. Thanks for the review bro

    The Mahogany (BT2) one will sound a little warmer, and the Spruce (BT1) will sound a little brighter. Having tried both of them; I definitely think the BT1 sounds better, but it's down to opinion more than anything else.

    Intonation is your guitars ability to have tone that remains in tune as you go up the neck. When you tune your guitar it should additionally be exactly in tune at the 12th fret.

    Great guitar for kids. I got my daughter one for Christmas when she was 9 and she loves it. Her instructor can't believe the sound that comes from such a little guitar.

    I agree with you Yoman1634. I've had my mini GS for nearly a year now and it has simply been my favorite guitar to grab here at home. As time has passed, it just seems to get better and better. It's has a ton of sustain and a big voice for it's size especially when using the recommended using the Elixir medium strings. (Med strings seem to be better on short scale guitars). But all in all the choice is up to each individual. All I know is I love the 3/4 size guitars.

    Hi, you said it's neck thru, not bolt on, but I'm pretty sure it's a bolt on. Are there two screw heads in the fretboard around the 16th feet?
    Good demo though, thanks.

      Yes you’re right, unless maybe they weren’t bolt on necks when that video was made.

    Reviews for the newer mahogany are extremely good and they say the difference in the two is the Spruce top is a bit more bright, the Mahogany more warm. I really like the darker look too. But one thing is for sure, I know based on my GS mini I've had for 9 months (spruce top), the Mahogany is probably fantastic as well. Thanks for the feedback as it gives me more incentive to go scoop up the mahogany then for the heck of it, I'll have both :)

    I went in and played around with the Baby Taylor, Taylor Mini GS, and Little Martin. I fell in love with the Taylor Mini GS (spruce). Bought mine about 9 months ago and I must say I have zero "buyers remorse" I just love it. It has a much bigger voice than the other two, has fantastic playability, sustain, and stays in tune rock solid for a 3/4 size guitar?
    I grab that one more than my Ovation and Les Paul. I'm not kidding either.
    In fact I will also get the newer (mahogany top) very soon!

    it is in fact a bolt on neck. you can see the bolts on the fretboard. it takes about 5 minutes to take the neck off and it fits in a suitcase

    When I went in to GC, I sat down with the Little Martin, the Baby Taylor, and the Mini GS. To me, the mini GS was better than the other two by a mile. Hands down no brainer to me. Took it home and will keep it forever. I may even get another in the rosewood or mahogany that they now have out. Those weren't available went I bought mine. Just go to your local guitar store and feel for yourself.

    We ordered a baby taylor from guitar center for my sister that has Taylor Swift written on it... You can imagine my confusion. I ended up calling guitar center to confirm that it was a real, taylor brand guitar.. I end up playing it more than my sister so I can sound like Ed Sheeran when i'm playing his stuff since he plays on 3/4th guitars.. Anyways thanks for the review and the AWESOME guitar lessons yourguitarsage.. Keep it up brother (:

    Played this guitar at my local shop, sounds nice, im a really big fan of small guitars or 'parlour' size guitars. I find dreadnoughts really uncomfortable for me, but the only complaint I have with this is its super super neck heavy, the thing just wants to fall over when you put it on your lap. Nonetheless, great vid.

  • @djlat
    @djlat Рік тому

    I was gifted a BT1e and didn’t know if I would use it but like you said “ great couch guitar or travel guitar. “. I particularly like the punch tone it can produce with finger picking. The only downside is maybe the fret spacing with my big fingers but you get use to it in no time . The tuner on the e version is not very good but the pickups make it sound bigger that it is.

    So yours is a thru neck? Mine‘s bolt on, which I like, because it’s easy to set up. Nice little intro to the guitar, thanks 👍🏻

  • @theverseshed

    Recently bought a Baby Taylor built in April 1999 (so just a few months after the NT neck was introduced). It had been well played and rather abused, but after adjusting the neck to lower the action it has a great played-in tone and volume. The NT necks are an absolute boon when you need to make subtle adjustments.
    Mine has the unusual half-hoop bracing in the upper bout. As yet, I haven't found much information about that and I'm not sure when Taylor stopped installing it.

    You said the neck wasn't bolted on, but that isn't true. It has two screws between the 16th and 17th fret. As a result, it isn't very secure and will change tone if you pull back even slightly.

    Hi, I am thinking of getting a guitar, but torn between getting a baby or a full sized guitar. Well, my consideration is because I'll be travelling abroad soon (early next year, and I am thinking of bringing the guitar along) so a baby would be great. How resistant is a BT to travel stress? It sounded good for such a small guitar :)

    Hope you don't mind if I ask an almost embarrassingly silly question. What's the deal with the pickup in this thing? I've been playing a Little Martin for a year or so now which I love and I recently scooped up a BT1 off Craigslist. It's got the input jack but I can't figure out where the battery compartment is. I can't see it being a passive pickup but I can't locate anywhere to change the battery!

      Jonathan Daniel Played one in London the other day, super sweet. Sounded divine, sounded almost as big as a full size taylor that cost £100 more (I'm in Britain) and it was so easy to play as it has the shorter scale length, so easy in fact that I could play the electric version of Layla on it. I fell in love and now I'm saving up.

    My wife has a full size dreadnought she could use as a life-raft. She could use a smaller guitar to accompany her singing. We have some savings and don't plan on collecting guitars so we could spend more than this for just the right thing. Is there another guitar to look at with that in mind? Or is this $300 that will beat anything up to $1000 or so? Great review, BTW. Really appreciate it.

    Dude, I just used your Rehab tutorial from 2009. I am looking into Taylor GS-Mini, and although this is a slightly different guitar, It is still the same idea. When on holiday, I travel via Motorhome and I need a guitar that is small and easily packed away. I've been looking at the GS-Mini Koa-E. The guitar you're using is pretty nice, but the tone isn't the nicest tone, is it? Do you have any new recommendations for small carry guitars for travelling? My current guitar is a Fender Sonoran and it's my baby. I've had it for 5 years and it's amazing, minding it's odd dents (I had a dog that would knock it over in the night, even when it was on a stand).

    Do you think it is possible to put higher strings on this Baby Taylor to have an higher tune, like on a requinto ? Or would it twist the neck ?

    • @yourguitarsage
      @yourguitarsage  9 років тому

      Thinner strings will not twist the neck. However, you would need to have the nut recut for thinner strings. There are Nashville strung guitars specifically made for this however. Wechter makes a good one and I do a review for it here on UA-cam.

    @bottlecap33 I thought the big baby was the guitar with the two screws going through the fingerboard...could be wrong though.

  • @Bobby59
    @Bobby59 11 років тому

    I was inquiring about one of these to a respectable luthier/guitar tech, and he told me to stay away from these. Since this guitar doesn't have the binding, a good knock could break off the top or back piece of the guitar from the sides..

      Bobby59 that’s what happened to my Taylor GS mini I tapped back of guitar and it cracked to not repairable condition.....

    What about nylon strings on one Erich, my son keeps telling me that's the way to go. This would be my second guitar and the other one is a Sigma full size with steel strings.

    • @yourguitarsage
      @yourguitarsage  9 років тому

      You would have to get the nut recut for nylon as the strings are wider. However, there are mini nylon string guitar is out there.
