- Social Media meet up ride with Mr Jim Bodley @thaijimbo75 this started off as a
Approximately two years ago, Jim and I began chatting on the old Insta, mainly MTB of course but lots of stuff and we regularly said, "we should meet up and go for a ride". Of course life gets in the way and it took quite some time to finally meet up.
Now, if you check out his channel, or his Instagram feed, you'll see he is a very capable and confident rider. Happy to ride steep and certainly happy to get his wheels in the air. So I knew full well what I was getting into. Originally from the Birmingham area he had only visited this area of the Peak District on one previous occasion. That was with @bikeandbeyond and the Adventure Trails crew @AdventureTrailsMTB and its fair to say they didn't enjoy the best of weather (full on blizzard) and as a result of this I guess ended up riding what appeared a limited route (Video link beow). So when I suggested showing the off-piste stuff he seemed well up for that.
I will happily say that there are much better riders out there for guiding people on these trails. I am neither that good or that knowledgeable (of which trails are where), but I suppose I know just enough. Having visited the hill on only a handful of occasions over recent years I tend to stick to a similar few familiar trails. Actually half the battle is working things into a proper "route". This place is so steep that it really is great for an e-bike, and you'll not hear me say that too often. So in total we managed about 4 proper runs plus a nod to the old school showing Jim "the Beast". Ok, we also got lost, as I tried to be clever .....always a mistake!
Its fair to say I soon learned my place. One run down and I was conscious of not holding Jim up. Jim took everything in his stride for a first timer and as you can see.... he drops me on all the runs, whilst I huff and puff and chunter at my lack of skills and commitment. Thing is it's not all about that (well that is what I tell myself) ... it is about meeting new people and having a laugh and I am sure we did that! Top day!
So, what did we learn.... if anyone else out there wants to meet up for a ride ....put it in writing approximately 2 years in advance :)

Trails look great there, roots will always scare me for now though!! Jim appeared to enjoy the new parts you showed him, loving his bike. Nothing wrong with getting a little lost...
Jim lapped it up made it all look easy. That bike certainly didn't hold him back 😂. Have you not ridden here? I thought you had....

Great video, I did a little video when I was up there a few weeks ago. Managed the ones from the second half of your video, i could do with finding the ones from the first half. They looked great.
Yes there's a few trails that all start at the same point. Look on Strava you'll find 'em. Some great trails up there but best avoided in the wet as they do get cut up 👍 (and they are a little too slick 🤣)
Ace video Jonathan, some very nice riding, certainly looks tricky in places, I need to get back there before it turns into slop 🤣👍🏻
Thanks Marc. So much I've yet to explore up there and she much I'd like to improve upon. I think the trails I've ridden the most I've still only done about 4 or 5 times. Well get yo there again don't worry 👍

Cheers Ant. It was running well. They really need an uplift there (joking, sort of) it would be ace so you could session one run loads of times, those climbs are brutal. Ebikes win here for that no doubt.
@@MTB_Derbyshire yeah it really does need an uplift or a gondola 😂😂😂 the climbs are horrid! Been thinking how an e-bike makes more sense for that sort of riding more and more! 🤔 maybe santa will bring me one at xmas 😂😂😂
I'm not that tempted...they're just too expensive and unreliable. Plus that weight in the DH takes away from the lively feel I want in a bike.
Great video mate, trail conditions look pretty damned good but you can see they have been well used over a wet summer.
He asked for off piste, you took him down The BEAST 😂 (I’ve ridden it for nice, years ago. Never seen the need to again 😂)
Trails were actually running well but there's definitely some parts that are cut in too much. I know you love "The beast" 😜, it was purely because I missed the gate to get to the start of some of the trails, so made sense to use it. We had a quick look in the woods near the first bend but gave up 😜. He'd not done it before so thought ....may as well. It really needs re-classifying as it's not a great challenge to any modern trail bike. Maybe call it the pussy cat..
No dabs climb I've completed on a downhill rig clipped on 👌💪🤙
Well done you, don't envy the DH bike part. However surely that was the easiest bit after riding it up any if the routes to get to that section 🥵 👍 To he honest, It's an easy one if your concentrating 🙄.....unlike me on this occasion 😜
@MTB_Derbyshire I love my dh rig so much. I have videos of it on my channel. Its transformed the way I ride! And I ride it xc all the time and has made me really fit!
