By far the fastest indoor track .. so many fast times have been ran there . Klecker literally ran to the limit ! Amazing pacing by Ollie and for staying that long 🔥
I ran there with the GBTC around 1999-2001.. have they changed it since then? it wasn't particularly good or fast at the time.. I think it was more banked than this..
I was rooting for Joe Klecker so bad but Kincaid just has a kick like none other. Klecker had a hell of a race and an awesome PR!! Extra congrats to Woody Kincaid for the new American record!!
Because he's a time trialer and not a racer. Lots of guys can run fast times when you have pacers but few can handle racing tactics the African runners employ.
Fantastic race and the announcer and camera kept up in it. So many times the call of the race is disappointing. Here, this fellow took us along for the run. Really nice.
I watched Kincaid the whole race. He was the most energetic of the runners. He never looked tired, he always looked like he could go faster. But I was still startled by the speed and the lateness of his final kick. The last 150 meters just flew by.
Not arguably… He DOES have the best kick of any American distance runner. In fact, his kick is every bit as good as anyone’s in the world. He ran 26 low for last 200m indoors. Don’t know who else could do that. Maybe Jacob.
@@binkyxz3 That was12:51 pace, which means he can stay close enough to the lead in just about any race on the Diamond League circuit and certainly in just about any championship final. Woody just needs to time his fitness right. Maybe leaving the Bowerman Track Club will help in that regard.
Huge props to Joe. Many men would have haltered when someone blows by them at the end like that. Not easy to keep fighting when that happens and you're hurting like that. Way to go Joe!
That was an amazing race. Klecker ran out of gas the last 400m, but that’ll come with a few more races, so he’ll be just fine. Kincaid’s kick is among the best in the world, but I’d like to see him maintain better contact with the leader before unleashing that kick. Maybe since it’s still so early in the season he didn’t quite trust his fitness there at the end. Amazing start for both guys, though. U.S. distance running looks to be in good hands with these two guys along with Grant Fisher.
The correct way to pronounce HOKA ONE ONE is “Ho-Kah Own-ay Own-ay.” The founders of the company have explained it’s a Māori phrase that means “to fly over the earth.”
In case anyone is interested....former record by Grant Fisher was 12:53.73 ...... so this dude took 2 seconds off that former record Bravo!.....as usual, the former record is not denoted in the title or the credits so that a perspective can be made.....and I realize that perhaps the narrators of this vid mentioned the former record, thats great, but some of us, meaning me, don't listen to the narration and just enjoy watching the vid and reading about it......anyway......this is just a constant pet peeve of mine....
@@ScambaiterX There is no such thing as "proper pronunciation" in linguistics. People will pronounce it like the number because it is the number. Hoka advertisements can pronounce it whatever dumb way they like, it's still "won"
Good for him, but I'm disappointed that Kincaid, Klecker, and Fisher weren't at USATF Cross Country the week before and won't be going to Worlds. In Australia, even.
I am NOT minimizing Kincaid and Klecker’s accomplishments in going sub 13. That’s a seriously impressive feat to accomplish. But I am curious, how much of an advantage is present in the current shoe technology? Could Galen have run in the low 12:50’s on the day he ran 13:01 if he had the present day shoes?
I can't remember a race where my legs went to jelly on the final 200-300m. Lost many race because of it, always in shock and awe when I was passed by guys at what seemed to be 2-3 times my final sprint speed. Never knew how they did it and sadly had no adequate coaching. Female coach preferred to further the ladies progress. Men's squad left to learn for themselves. Such was the gender equality of an Irish school in the 90s. No internet, so no google for tips on nutrition amd traning. Teachers who didn't give a shi7 which was sad as we had some natural talent in our male squad. I was running 2m05s in 800m when I was 12. Friend of mine was jumping 7.50m aged 15. My PB 800M Ended up being just 1m56s in the all ireland final, placing 2nd aged 16. Randomly I someone dropped out of the shot put, I finished 2nd in that too lol, and 4th in high jump. 3rd in Tripple jump behind my friend who also failed to imrpove further after 15+16yr olds. I envy the American professionalism, which appears to take hold in schools at an early level, spotting talent and early on and providing professional guidance and training for development. Of course, this may not be the case at every American school, but judging by High School and especially College events The professionalism is already years ahead of Ireland and the UK, Europe probably too.

They are the pacers. They are only in the race to keep the pace going for a predetermined distance and then drop out. They can push that pace knowing they don’t have to go the full distance.
Impressive time, but damn, Kincaid is one of the least fluid, worst form/style runners I've ever seen at this level. Makes his time all the more impressive!
Crazy that the 5k and 3k American records both went down at the same meet.

Kincaid has what it takes to contend for a 5000m World Championship. The stamina to stay with the fastest in the world and a devastating kick.
The greatest JV kick of all time
When Kincaid hit those afterburners he was gone. What a kick that guy has. He made the in the lead look like he was standing still as he passed him.
What kind of KICK was that! That was the strongest KICK I’ve seen in recent years! Lets go Woody!! 😀‼️
that kick looked like it could rival a 1500m guy.
The fourth fastest indoor time of all time! Just behind Bekele, Gebrselassie and Komen... Good company!
Kincaid has proven to be so good yet so inconsistent at the same time
Yeah. Outdoors he'll struggle to break 13:20.

apart from when he said sub 13 seconds !!! but he did correct himself quickly, enjoyed the race and commentary, great stuff
Crowded field! I recall David Moorcroft first breaking 13:00 and it seemed miraculous. These are such excellent runners.
actually David didnt break 13, just missed it, July?August 1982 a brilliant run nontheless, and a great athlete.
I was thinking the same thing, this was a big deal when he ran 13 flat, life goes by very fast he is 69 now.

Woody's a very efficient runner. He had a lot left, even though he gave some ground to Klecker in the last few laps.
What was the woodys last 400m time on this?
Shouldn't we be putting an asterisk next to this result since it was done without arm warmers...?
Kudos to Klecker for the effort, but that kick was phenomenal

We don’t know for sure, and it varies from runner to runner, but 5-10 secs in a 5k isn’t an unreasonable estimate.
And this track in particular is another advantage. Assuming newer rubber and more bouncy foundation on the banks
Salazar's magic juice + the shoes = yes
He had a few gallons left in the tank. That was ridiculous. Imagine if he'd stretched all that energy out a little bit.
