I was not prepared for the idea that Commodore Guff is a regeneration of the same Time Lord as Ms. Frizzle.
FWIW, “cascade, cascade” is 2 abilities, you may only copy 1 of them with Abstruse Archaic for a total of 3 cascades
But you're not copying the cascade your copying the trigger that says "spells of mana cost 7+ gain 'cascade, cascade" which is a single ability. Which resolves twice adding cascade, cascade, cascade, cascade to the text of the spell which then resolve normally
@@ricohard1986 The “Spells you control gain” is a static ability and not copiable by Abstruse Archaic
Bumping because everyone needs to know this
Correct. Each instance of cascade is its own instance of a triggered ability.
I know this has been answered, but in case there's someone out there like me who wants the exact reference in the
CR: 702.85c If a spell has multiple instances of cascade, each triggers separately.
Ben, Ben, Adam, and Kathleen is absolutely my dream blunt rotation
C’mon Kath PASS dat ish
The chillest circle. They’d be so cool to just talk about big concepts together
I'll do you one better. Wheeler, Kathleen, Cameron, Serge and Graham
Two bens and an adam? I can already tell this episodes going off the rails
"none cards, left beef" is an iconic reference. It works as a reference, but also, you're all out of cards and still have beef (petty slights) remaining.
Holy crap that grindr joke conversation was gold! Well done to Matt for that edit
I had a panic hearing that notification sound
I wonder if that's what sparked the idea for the crapshot.
49:00 Small correction, Ben should've cascaded only theee times. You can copy either of the two cascade triggers the spell creates, but there's not a single trigger that you can copy lets you cascade twice.
57:30 Pillar of Origins doesn't enter the battlefield tapped.
Hes not copying the cascade he's copying the ability that grants double cascade
@@ricohard1986 that ability is a static one, not a triggered or activated one.
these episodes are always so clean cut and entertaining that it makes me want way more than one a month but that's the fallacy
I had to watch the whole video to be sure but Wheeler bottomed every scry he had on Path of Ancestry which means he got full value off his turn one land. Which if nothing else gives him some sort of moral victory involving value.
He kept one at 1:02:40
Who ever is in charge of these new edit jokes, I see you, and appreciate you and your excellent work
wheeler's planeswalking columbo is my favourite thing
the chaotic alignment of each side of this table is delicious.
Didn’t see that end coming. Each deck looks awesome, even if they are quite expensive.
"I've got the thoughts of 3000 slivers in my head" is the best ADHD description I've ever heard
I love Adam's humour when he plays EDH.
"I get a bunch of triggers"
- Adam, summarizing playing Enchantress
Thank you!
Hugely grateful for the change in sound mixing so the harsh horn doesn't cut through and over the voice of everyone.
It hurt my head and it's really good to be able to chill out listening and watching the show.
Lovely bunch of folks playing fun and powerful decks. Always happy when everyone gets to pop off 💙💙💙
OK, I was NOT expecting the Guff deck to go that hard! Wow.
I'm so glad the pandemic made Columbo into a thing The Youth enjoy, it's a gift that keeps giving
Okay first off I wanna say I love this video and everyone at lrr. Great editing and my favorite commander game play on this sphere of the internet. I really hope someone reads this: please pick a different ambience track you’ve used this same one for multiple EDSC and every 7 mins the Saxophone goes off on a crazy solo that makes it hard to hear the players. Again greatest respect for everything you do, and if the track stays I’ll still watch.
i literally did not even notice the background music until i read this comment
Came to the comment section to see if somebody else was talking about it, I agree completely. Happens in many previous videos too. It is great content, but it has that headache inducing element.
I dearly wish y'all had more time slots to produce these.
The only sliver I know of that doesn't directly help other slivers is that artifact sliver with no abilities, and technically most changelings
Since it doesn't target, Ghoulish Impetus' ability that puts it directly onto the battlefield can put it on creatures with hexproof/shroud. This comes up a lot with effects like Retether than can return Auras directly to the battlefield from the graveyard or effects that flicker Auras.
The planeswalker party is the most fun precon I've ever had. I've beefed it up a little bit and it wrecks. So much so that people have procured the "immoetal sun" to stop me lol
the way Matt JUMPSCARED me with the grindr notif sound is unacceptable.....
Thank you for doing elder dragon social club. Honestly if feels like watching a group of friends play and having fun. Thank you once again for bring joy to those around. It really does help being able to make it though a week.
I'm so excited to see an new EDSC that I spontaneously engaged with the content!
It kinda physically hurt me when Kathleen missed getting the Chandra Emblem out.
Chandra was on 6, using Karns Bastion to proliferate puts it on 7 for the Emblem.
I had it out last weekend and it's a blast. Just wrecks boards and lifetotals.
I hope you sought help with your pain!
Honestly, piloting the Guff deck there's so many ability choices going around it can be a pain to think through all the lines. It's not the waterfall of triggers of the Enchantress deck, where the issue is keeping track, the issue is just active actions. It's a fun deck, but it's real bad for decision paralysis or adapting board states.
"The Brothers Yasuo" got me hard; someone's been playing a lot of LoL!
19:23 - fun fact, the voice actor who did Scruff McGruff is in prison on drug and weapon charges. So, uh.. no treat, bad dog?
10:30 they did have half art wastes in the bfz precons; i worked a card store and always complained to our database people that the entry for them didn't meaningfully differentiate them from the full arts, and they never did anything about it. presumably because there was zero demand for them and thus no actual chance of error. but it still bothered me!!
The Grindr messages were WILD.
“All I wanna do, is see Adam cast into, a giant woman….”
Never realized until this game that Spirited Companion was an enchantment creature
It's a key part of why it was so good in Kamigawa limited and not just an Elvish Visionary recolor.
I had always interpreted the scene in which Guff rewrites future history as complicated time magic and not self awareness or 4th wall breaking.
I mean the line between the two is pretty narrow, so that’s a valid interpretation.
Guff's entire presence in the novels is constant 4th-wall-breaking and veiled references to MTG lore. the specific scene where he rewrites history isn't played for laughs as much as his other antics, it does have tension and drama to it, but it's still very goofy overall since Guff knows that he exists in a timeline that is able to be rewritten on an order of magnitude higher than Teferi's time magic.
Compare him to another "All-knowing Librarian" trope like Wan Shi Tong in ATLA, who knows everything that's been written, but doesn't have the power to influence what has or hasn't happened.
Wheeler's joke at 22:36 was so underappreciated at the table for how good it is (and the edit was very good too)
Ben's introduction and Adam's and Wheeler's comments on it left me in stitches. And tbat's only 2 minutes in!
shout out to ben for the kingdom hearts reference " simple and clean" Love this show!😃
Huh, I guess Adam is in a polycule with Chandra and Nissa now. Neat.
Excellent, as always. Thank you.
I’m a big fan of Wheeler’s cult. 😊1:21:42
And thus we see a new engagement of dragons in social matters.
All praise our Glorious Gladiator Godfather
Kudos to the editor(s) for the symbology choice at 15:09
I don't know if it's just my phone but this looks amazing! Great color and very crisp!
Adam AND the Bens? I'd like to formally register an ook ook.
Not to be confused with Adam And The Bends, a cuationary tale about diving and blood oxygen.
3:39
"Have they ever made a Sliver that didn't care about Slivers?"
I don't know if this qualifies, but I do know of one Sliver card that does not have any abilities itself; Sliver Construct.
Plus there's its earlier buddies, bigger Venser's Sliver from Time Spiral, and smaller Metallic Sliver from the first appearance of Slivers in Tempest.
In this episode, I learned that Weeler Loves Me
Also that Wheeler does not have my best interests in heart
I do not know how to reconcile these two pieces of information
This was the most Anime magic thing. The power of friendship truly rocked around.
I played 3 precon games with these decks, each of which players rotated decks, and Guff won all of them (while being archenemy the whole game each time). We dubbed the deck "DifGufftin." I was glad to see that it began differently for you guys...yet ended the same. GG, nonetheless!
My experience with the Zhulodok deck is that, out of the box, "cascade" hits too many X spells.
Jeremy brought the City's Blessing to the fashion show
I love the simple and clean reference ❤
Sliver construct is a 2/2 for 3 generic that is an artifact creature sliver with nothing but flavor text so there is technically a sliver that doesn't care about slivers
"But after....switch" I fucking lost it 🤣🤣🤣
Me, last night: I wonder if LRR will do an EDSC about the Commander Masters decks
Me, today: Heck yeah!
Not the grindr notification sounds 💀💀💀
10:35 They printed non-full art Wastes into the Oath of the Gatewatch fatpack, one got full arts out of the boosters but the basic land pack had non full art
they did print non-fullart wastes in a colorless event deck back in oath of the gatewatch
@LRRMTG would you mind telling me what type of dice you guys use in your gameplay? (specifically the oversized ones with numerals instead of pips). They are spiffy!
59:02 this is just the plot of Grim Fandango
Ben referencing Simple and Clean almost made me scream
1:15:30 Play Spark Double, copying Guff, play Chad, swing with Leori at a player and name Guff, -3 OG Guff for 6 damage, -3 Spark Guff for 6 more damage is lethal, no? Fun game tho, love seeing gameplay of the CMM decks, even if they’re overpriced!
Kathleen working that BM final turn to it's maximum.
Now that eldraine is out with its 2 precons Im hopin we get to see the 2 from All will be one and eldraine fight.
Heavy are the eyes that ponder the orb.
37:12 Now I wanna know the origins of "giddy up" lol
Ok but I would a hundred percent love a persona secret lair
I don't know if James has a kid but that time to lean guff means he's a Dad
Great game and great editing!
Ben forgot the cascade trigger from Ugin unfortunately. It’s colourless spells! 1:26:27
...with mana value 7 or greater 😉
Ugin is 6 unfortunately.
@@bondeulv got my ugins confused 🤣🤣
Good to see there's always time to sh*t on James, even during commander games. 😂
wheelers face at 21:26 tho 🤣
So Guff isn’t really a self-insert, per se.
It’s true that he’s based off the Magic story lead Scott McGough, but McGough didn’t write or create the character. J. Robert King, the author of the Invasion trilogy, made him. It’s like making a character based on your boss, I guess
I think she was meaning that Guff was a self-insert writer when he rewrote history
25:09 I ask myself that every fucking day and still don’t have an answer!
Kathleen and the rowdy boiz. 10/10 content.
Slithers and Adam - name a better combination inside and outside of magic
Original Gideon is the best way of saying OG ever
Very excited to see these decks
You advertised the sleeves at the top of the show but they're still OOS, any chance of a restock soon?
As Adam would say, I popped when I saw this in my feed.
Shoulder devils, Auntie Blyte entered the chat
I'm engaging because nobody knows a better way to get the recommendation algorithm to work.
This game was crazy , I’m into that ,now power up the decks and play again,I think Adam deck went off more in my opinion
Okay but why all the Crashing Drawbridge hate?! Repeatable on-board haste not in red? It's a great card in the right deck
Occasionally they chose the weirdest cards to pick on.
Wonderful game! I love that Kathleen won!
god these decks look so cool. Wish they weren't so dang expensive
You do not cascade 4 times, as each cascade is a separate trigger. You should only get 3 cascades.
Eh, people make mistakes and it's not like Ben got much value off the 4th one.
@@gaz-l621 I don't see what's wrong without pointing it out, at least so other people don't make the same mistake.
I love the intro music so much! 🎉😊
Kathleen didn't pay the 1 red for Blasphemous Act, sheesh XD
I'm rooting for "Ms. Frizzle, probably"!
Holy shit what a lineup of players
maybe its the edible but I died at the back and forth between bens
god i would join wheeler's cult in a second
Taunting sliver says when this sliver enters the battlefield goad a creature. So would it trigger when the copied entered? Shouldn't they only trigger off themselves not when other slivers enter?
Yes, each Sliver only triggers off of itself entering. Wheeler should only have gotten two goads at 1:26:38, not three.
WHAT A GREAT DAY!
card kingdom a constitutional monarchy of cards
A nice break from my Fam Jam marathon.
I would love to see a lore episode
They have, in fact, printed 3 slivers that don’t care about slivers. They’re all vanilla artifact creatures.
Prediction for who’s on what deck:
Wheeler: Guff
Ben: Eldrazi
Adam: Enchantments
Kathleen: Slivers
Lets see if I’m right
