Prokofiev - Suite from Romeo and Juliet | Stéphane Denève | New World Symphony (2023)

Perhaps no other stage work has inspired as much music as Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. The most distinguished score in the field of ballet is Sergei Prokofiev’s, the first major project he undertook as a Soviet resident following his retirement from international touring at the keyboard. Musicians today often compile their own original concert suites from Prokofiev’s work. This one, assembled by NWS Artistic Director Stéphane Denève, forms a kind of abridged version, chronologically drawing highlights from throughout the ballet.
