Spent all day researching pricing on eBay “uncirculated” rolls. Figured I would search UA-cam as well. Really glad I found your channel before buying. Thank you sir, I appreciate you.
As a new hobbyist, I feel like to learn, you have to make those mistakes. Ive bought "unchecked" rolls, estate lots... awful "graded coins" with all sorts of problems. Every mistake is a step towards learning what to do, and what not to do. These videos are a great resource. Thanks for your time and effort :)
With you on this one as well my friend - I find it SUSPECT at best that Ebay let's this OBVIOUS FRAUD continue !! There is NO WAY IN HADES all these rolls are unsearched - please do NOT fall for this scam folks !! Thanks for posting this vid and being one of the good guys representing the hobby.
Even the big banks don't seem to have more than a few rolls. And if it's half dollars they might have a few among all the tellers but not even a full roll. Either that or they don't want me to know they have coins.
Awesome video Daniel! Every coin collector needs to watch this! I've researched coin rolls and coin wrappers extensively and there really is not much info out there. What I have come across is that the large dollar coin were like you said not in rolls but in bags and for the other coins, window wrappers began around the 1920's and all were crimped by hand-not by machine. The flat tubular wrappers came out around the mid 1940's and were also just hand crimped (closed off at each end by hand, not machine). Crimping machines did not arrive until the early 70's when Brandt patented them due to easier coin handling and demand. There were pretty much only 3 coin handling manufacturing companies out there. They were C.L. Downey (Steel-Strong Tubular), Abbott Coin, and Brandt. So with that said, there does not exist and has never existed any crimped coin rolls earlier than the late 1960's/70's. If somebody's great great grandfather had rolls from the 1940's or 1950's, none of them would be machine crimped but rather be in flat tubular wrappers and crimped on both ends by hand. Keep up the great video! You'll be at 50K subscribers in no time!
Thank you , Thank you , Thank you, for being painfully honest about this topic. I'm a new collector and have many times considered buying one of these rolls, but something inside didn't feel right, so I guess I got lucky. You are a blessing here !
My dad left me and my daughter a collection of coins. I’ve recently started to attempt to learn about them but there is a lot to it. I was tempted to buy estate lots off of EBay but was very skeptical. It didn’t seem logical to me how they were selling the lots. Your video has helped me understand there are scams and to listen to my gut. Thank you!!
Thanks Daniel I appreciate your video , I’m new in this hobby and you are probably the most honest guy on UA-cam. I’m learning a lot from you. Thanks for sharing your experience. Have great day
I agree with you 100 %, bought a few penny rolls and they said they were unsearched but that was not the case I’m sure so many dishonest people on ebay selling, use caution when purchasing!
Best rolls I ever bought was at a garage sale. Two hand filled penny rolls at the bottom of a catch all box. I paid face and brought them home. It had some decent coins nothing special but while I was happy I felt guilty knowing I just bought someone's collection discarded.
I bought one three years ago. There was a 1931-S in it. I was happy. Came from a roll seller from Michigan. Bought another from the same seller months later. Had a nice VG 1876 Indian cent in it.
Thank you for a very informative video! Personally I think that coin collecting attracts the most people from opposite ends of the spectrum. And predatory sellers know that newbee coin collectors will buy almost anything if it sounds good. My last two bad purchases: from ebay, a toned set that wasn't even the set in the listing (I was refunded). And at a coin show, from a 'reputable' dealer, a morgan dollar that was cleaned but I didn't catch it until later. It is tricky as a newer collector not to get scammed in the coin game
Daniel my man - you are the only one I trust in what you say! I’m sure others here trust you too! Your a great asset to us getting into coins and collecting! Thanks brother! 👍
I am a new hobbyists and I was thinking about buying some unsearched rolls but thanks to your advice I think that I will hold off on that idea until I can get more knowledge about unsearched rolls.
Man! I wish I knew more about watching UA-cam videos on stuff like this before when I caught onto these scams like this that I got caught in before I learned. So now I recommend your videos to help others out. Thanks great video.
Yep ! Thanks Dan ! Also i saw a guy on etsy selling 3 common grade 1959 pennies & called them vintage then was trying to sell them for $1,000.00 omg thats ridiculous & u know thats true! Thanks for more very useful info my friend! U are a good person!
I'm an older man like yourself, I'm new to collecting coins. I saw the unsearched rolls on E-Bay. Didn't even think about it. The world doesn't work that way, sorry to say. It's basically a scam. Nothing in life is free, telling me it's unsearched. How naive. It's the same with, let's say baseball cards. One card a PSA10, they want 5k, scroll down a little, same player, same year, same manufacturer, same grade and there asking 15 dollars. Makes you wonder about these people. Discussing.
Thanks Daniel. Very informative. I have thought about buying rolls of wheat pennies but was always a little weary of their ads. I did buy a Lincoln cent grouping from The Coin Vault for $100. The set contained many individual sets such as all the uncirculated "82's P and D, copper and zinc, The 1976 collection, the bicentennials, the '68 to 74 S mints uncirculated, 2017 PD&S enhanced uncirculated, 2021 PD&S Proofs, and the 2022 PD&S Proofs. On top of that, they added 1lb. of uncirculated copper and 2lbs. of wheat pennies. The majority of the uncirculated copper was 1980, 1974, 1973 with a few 1964's. The majority of the wheaties was the "40's and 50's common dates and mints. I probably paid too much but it I didn't think I would be able to get all the uncirculated and proof sets separately. I was a little disappointed with the bagged coins, but I did find a couple of good wheat pennies. BTW...I did happen to find a 2014-S Proof Lincoln cent yesterday while going through a box of pennies.
Great advice. I got burned on two “unsearched” rolls with barber dime enders years ago on eBay and haven’t fallen for that scam again since. I buy BU rolls from time to time but never assume they are unsearched. Once I got an entire roll of 1962-D rpms, that was nice, but lots of people don’t care about those anyway.
I found this out the hard way so true I don’t buy any more un searched rolls off of eBay I just buy bank rolls, great video a lot of people needs to watch this video 👍👍
Love watching your vids. Daniel !! I've watched hundreds of other people videos, I never feel the honesty, with others as I do watching yours. I've been subscribed for many years now & you've taught me so much. Thank You for your knowledge and help !! I recommend you to EVERYONE ! Have a great day and Happy Holidays to ALL !!
I feel like I am the only one that clearly lists and clearly honestly truly sends exactly what I say I am going to send if I list a 300 or 400 dollar item for 99 cents that's the exact item you will get sadly nowadays everyone just likes to use stock photographs and everyone just accepts that to be okay I'm not telling you this to promote me as a seller I'm telling you this in the spirit of transparency and as a true and honest numismatist.
TONY'S HOBBY CHANNEL It's very frustrating. There are a couple "reputable" longtime sellers on eBay that are clearly selling fraudulent cleaned Morgans. Can't believe these guys get away with it and even worse people buy them.
So excited to hear you talking about this! Excellent info!! I've been opening and searching rolls for almost 4 decades! ...Since long before ebay or even Webcrawler lol! I love giving guidance on how to spot those authentic vintage rolls! Another take on the rolls is that many people are more coin SAVERS than COLLECTORS, it's a different kind of hoarding and why the rolls exist at all. Good rolls should really represent pocket change and change jar change from the past. Meaning, there should be duds here and there when you find authentic rolls. I agree that there are far too many people being sneaky with the words in the listings and descriptions! Just like you said, read what these listings say, and DON'T say! ...And my advice is always that this is a gamble, the roll hunting. It's not the same as buying graded coins, it is not a stable investment, SO NEVER SPEND MORE THAN YOU CAN AFFORD, please! It's my favorite hobby, it's always fun, and sometimes it's profitable too! Big fan of CoinHELPu, you were one of the first channels I subscribed to!
I’ve done this mistake when I first started collecting I don’t believe any of these listings on eBay Now there was this one coin store that I went to and bought a pound at a time of Unsearched world coins and every time I found sliver and really nice coins also really old stuff to but they ended up closing so now I cannot find them anywhere I refuse to get ripped off on eBay again great video
I saw an eBay listing for rolls of Kennedy half dollars. The seller said unsearched rolls, might be silver in them. Then I thought to myself that the seller would be able to weigh the rolls and if the weight was off they could determine there was silver in the roll without opening the roll.
@@jacobthecoincollector9962 No you can't get rolls of these from the bank. Atleast none of the banks around here. They don't want to give out coins at all. Just getting five dollars in pennies or nickels is like pulling teeth.
@@mysterybuyer3738for real, I asked for 2 rolls of quarters, a roll of halves, and 5 pennies, they said “we are in a coin shortage and they are reserved for business”.. bs, tell me what business uses halves
I'm so glad I saw this video a few weeks ago on your channel. I'm still fairly new to the hobby/business and was completely unaware that Morgans were never rolled. I had 4 of these in my cart at $1000 per roll in the hopes of getting some gems. It would have been a gigantic mistake obviously, probably filled with 1921's.

Thank you Finally Someone who thinks the same... Everyone and I mean 99.9% of Un-Searched Rolls, Bags, Boxes of coins are from people that collect and post the junk they already went through and don’t want, then there’s the coin thief that sticks a Key Date in the end of searched rolls that make you want to buy it, then same guys sell bags and dump a roll you can make out the design then rest of bag is basically slugs.... only way to buy coins off eBay are slabbed Coins, even they are starting with the fakes
Daniel, thank you for the information. I once purchased a unsearched roll on Ebay. There were two Indian heads on end with common wheats in in the middle. My best bet is a local bank. When I am there I ask if they have any rolls of half dollars . I remember one time somebody turned in the rolls in the blue and white wrapper mint issued and some other rolls of halves. I purchased the 14 or so rolls from thg he teller. In the see searched rolls I found some 64 Kennedy Halves, some 40 percent Kennedy Halves and a few Franklins. It pays to get to know tellers, remember be polite and then you will be able to ask for rolls, halves and a etc.. whenever you visit a bank. Thanks for the video I enjoy your videos and topics.
Thank you so much for sharing your experience and knowledge. I'm looking forward to watching many more of your videos and I'll be checking out your website for sure.
I got a roll of nickels and a roll of quarters from the bank about 6 months ago. I was surprised when I opened them-both rolls were uncirculated. I had never had this happen before. They were newer years but ..made my day
it's not that i don't appreciate your info but i bought a couple off of rolls from amazon.....my daddy used to tell me there's a sucker born every day....i guess i just had to prove it to myself...even after you told me....GREAT INFORMATION!!
I had the same thoughts when I first started collecting coins. How can you say what coins are in an unsearched roll? Common sense always prevails if you let it! Thanks for another great looking out for you video!!
I bought a bag of unsearched wheat pennies from a coin dealer friend and it was absolutely unsearched. There were 2 1909S and 1 -1909 . A 1936 with a Clipped Planchet. It also had Canadian pennies from 1940 - 1958 the 1947 Blunt 7 was in there and the 1955 No shoulder fold. I think that was great @. 4 cents each , the whole bag was $15 .
Also I haven’t looked closely at all the 1955 wheat pennies to see if there the DDO . In winter I will spend the time. There were a lot of 55 s in there
I really enjoy your videos, I wish that you did some videos on Canadian coins, I'm in Canada. I'm also starting to collect United States coins yet need a guideline of where to start, also your website is packed full of knowledge . New subscriber here.
Yeah I broke down and bought an “unsearched” roll of kennedy halves off ebay and of course didn’t get anything good. Lesson learned but I’ll just give them away to the niece and nephews. Thanks for your wisdom sir!
Outstanding video. We purchased 6 rolls and a lot. They filled some memoryg spots in album . That was it. I'm with you buy at bank or your neighborhood store. Thanks.
@@CoinHELPu sorry Dan: MISTYPED ill blame it on the phone. I'VE just found penny rolls best from bank and stores. Siver from stores. Mint sets unless new from the mint forget it. Find an estate sale like I've said no coin dealer is going to LET a good coin roll
Great video as always Daniel, I'd love to see Esty and Ebay GONE! BUT,we both know that will never happen. Keep up the great work and I hope to see you soon! Take care.
Have seen dozens of ads on Facebook with 1 ounce silver going for 9.99. Silver dollars 1794 for like 30.00. People do fall for this. That's why they do it. Sad to say FB probably gets $$$ so they dont care. Bugs me to no end. Hurts the hobby. Love you videos. 👍👍👍
The last time I purchased real UN-searched rolls was in 1971. I bought 4 1957 uncirculated Lincoln cent rolls and found about a rolls worth of beautiful "BIE" and other error coins. SO you would have to turn back the clock to 1971 and go to a good coin shop in that era.
You had a couple of good points back in the late 1800s and early 1900s you got coins in a cloth bags espelly the Morgans plus on one side of ebay you have unsearched rolls and on the other end of ebay you have someone selling old wrappers its crazy I never delt with ebay but you can get some good deals
Dan, I go to different banks and buy 5-10 rolls of pennies and have found wheat s, Canadians as well as Indian heads and even a couple of flying eagles. Then I take all of the other pennies to one of my my banks and put them in their coin counter and get my money and start over. I think it it so crazy to buy so called unscearch rolls off of eBay. Thank you for your time in making your great video's. I hope that you and yours have a nice Thanksgiving.
I like to sell some error pocket change then buy these rolls. There is the chance they missed something. If not the penny I sold bought me 10 or 20 dollar rolls. Totally agree scams no doubt nothing can truly be labeled unsearched. Great video as always. More videos on sellers overinflated pricing on Etsy, Macari, Ebay, Facebook, or any sell site that allows the under informed or dreamer who thinks he has a jackpot. These people need to stop selling or take the time to invest time into some education. I'm constantly letting people know they have a face value coin when they saw big figures by some clown trying to get rich quick. Thanks for your straight to the point information.
I bet the 4 👎are ones scamming, how could you not love the wisdom information none of the other coin channels discuss, we appreciate what you do, thank you Daniel
So many "unsearched" rolls on eBay. My favorite listing on eBay is people are selling unsearched rolls of half dollar they just picked up at the bank. Listed as Silver found in other rolls possible silver in this roll too. They sell for $15 and up per roll.
I join you in saying eBay should not allow "unsearched rolls" to be sold on their website. You are absolutely correct in saying 99+% of these listings are simply scams and most likely 100% of listings from China & Indonesia will be ripoffs - stay away from these crooks!
I have bought penny roll lots just to fill the books and in a year's time have a few keepers. I save my cheapest doubles and will sell those by the roll on ebay. Buffalo's are hard to find these days with readable date. I've been to the bank and that's limited too😮 now I buy individual dates one at time if need be...just to fill the books😊
Always a big THANKS! I have thousands of unsearched coins from over the years, a lot of them are in rolls and most of them are in 1 gallon containers. I don't know how to sell them so I may just take them to the bank or a change machine. If I put them on eBay as unsearched I would likely get bad feedback from people expecting to find something fantastic and ruin my reputation as a seller, I have hundreds of slabbed coins and would hurt if I decided to sell them. I did separate some of the copper cents from the zincolns and took out the silver from the others (wife did) rolls of dimes, nickels, pennies... I don't really want to search them, I'm older and don't have the time or patience with CRH. ebay is horrible IMO.
Thank you for this info because I have recently just got into this (was my favorite hobby as a kid but couldnt invest obviously) My journey so far is that Twice i have asked for rolls from the bank first time 10x quarters and 10x dimes and got like a few bicentennials but really not sure what im looking for besides 1964 or earlier. Second time 10 rolls of pennies nickels dimes and quarters, i guess besides pre 1965 im looking for wheats indians and buffalos. However despite my basic search terms i am sure I wouldve found ebay sooner or later and made a big big mistake. I am so glad i came across this video right at the beginning of my collectoring and i am going to read your article immediately after posting this comment. Especially before spending more than face value at the bank.
Actually, it does cost quite a bit to ship stuff out. Especially through the post office. Both the seller and the buyer love to look forward to the tracking #. Packaging tracking number is "free" ( that means it is included in the price) but you are paying TOP DOLLAR. I tried to avoid the EBAY pricing but ended up paying 10% more at the USPS. ugh.. Best of luck to all, with much love
Very very helpful Dan I feel like a fool for falling for buying some of those myself. Is there any way to get real unsearhed rolls of any kind of coins.
I used to work as a cashier at a convenience store, and you would not believe the number of silver coins I've counted. I always kept a pocket full of change in my car, so I'd take the silver and replace it with the currency the customer thought it was. It's not stealing, it was going to the bank anyways as a nickle or dime, but I knew they were worth more. Also got a lot of Canadian pennies, they look way too much like ours.
I really appreciate your candor Daniel, you tell it like it is and we thank you for that. It's just something about human nature that makes people want to shoot for the moon. My buddy (The SOMEBODY has to win Powerball guy) is constantly buying Scratch-off lottery tickets convinced he's going to hit it big. The same thing motivates people to buy these rolls (Have you rescued a Nigerian Prince in exile lately) GREED I believe it's called. On BOTH the BUYER and SELLER's part. The seller by offering clearly NOT un-searched material and the buyer by wanting to get something for nothing/below cost. How's that saying go? "We may not always get what we want, but we ALWAYS get what we DESERVE"

@@mysterybuyer3738for real, I asked for 2 rolls of quarters, a roll of halves, and 5 pennies, they said “we are in a coin shortage and they are reserved for business”.. bs, tell me what business uses halves
thank you....nice to not repeat mistakes made by others. Looking forward to reading your articles on unsearched coins
From now on before I do something im going to see if you have a video! Thanks for making these
I noticed this video is 5 years old!!
You are so right!
I have been a sucker a few times. I figured out if it says unserched its probably searched.
I love the way you. "Keep it real". I like watching your videos because you are honest and knowledge able about everything you discuss.
They were newer years but ..made my day
Loved this vid. Hopefully you have educated some of the newer coin collectors.
Great video Daniel
“Buyer be aware” always
I like your honesty!
Really appreciate all your honestly and your will to help others! GREAT info!!!
it's not that i don't appreciate your info but i bought a couple off of rolls from amazon.....my daddy used to tell me there's a sucker born every day....i guess i just had to prove it to myself...even after you told me....GREAT INFORMATION!!
I hear that all the time
I had the same thoughts when I first started collecting coins. How can you say what coins are in an unsearched roll? Common sense always prevails if you let it! Thanks for another great looking out for you video!!
Thanks for your words of wisdom.
Very informative on Unsearch rolls.
There were a lot of 55 s in there
Thanks Daniel: This gives one confidence to search out the authentic opportunities, simply by dispelling the fake!
You are good man, Daniel and you are doing great things for this industry! You have earned my business for life!
Thank you!
I really enjoy your videos, I wish that you did some videos on Canadian coins, I'm in Canada. I'm also starting to collect United States coins yet need a guideline of where to start, also your website is packed full of knowledge . New subscriber here.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us... You are my favorite coin youtuber, because of how honest and helpful you are. 🤗 💰Thank you Daniel !!💰
You're welcome and thank you
Yeah I broke down and bought an “unsearched” roll of kennedy halves off ebay and of course didn’t get anything good. Lesson learned but I’ll just give them away to the niece and nephews. Thanks for your wisdom sir!
Thanks for the very informative video.
Outstanding video. We purchased 6 rolls and a lot. They filled some memoryg spots in album . That was it. I'm with you buy at bank or your neighborhood store. Thanks.
At bank or mint, I don't buy them unless someone walks in the shop with them.
@@CoinHELPu Can't fully agree walking in from the street might as well buy from a dealer
@@bulldogusmc9182 I thought you was asking me if I bought them and where
@@CoinHELPu sorry Dan: MISTYPED ill blame it on the phone. I'VE just found penny rolls best from bank and stores. Siver from stores. Mint sets unless new from the mint forget it. Find an estate sale like I've said no coin dealer is going to LET a good coin roll
Daniel. Thank you for a very informative video!
Great video as always Daniel, I'd love to see Esty and Ebay GONE! BUT,we both know that will never happen. Keep up the great work and I hope to see you soon! Take care.
Thank you for keeping us in for
👍😇
Absolutely agree with you
Informative video, thanks! Definitely gonna go read those articles.
Thank you for making things clear for us newbies... Keep up the good work! M.
Well, I feel like a huge idiot now! 🙄 Thank you for the info!
Thanks Dan great Video!!
Thank you again excellent information as always
Never never had any luck with bank rolls that were unsearched. and on Ebay forget it.
I bet the 4 👎are ones scamming, how could you not love the wisdom information none of the other coin channels discuss, we appreciate what you do,
thank you Daniel
You know it
I love your channel your videos are so informative ,I didn't know that about roll hunting excellent video.
So many "unsearched" rolls on eBay. My favorite listing on eBay is people are selling unsearched rolls of half dollar they just picked up at the bank. Listed as Silver found in other rolls possible silver in this roll too. They sell for $15 and up per roll.
I’m always looking for old rolls of Ike’s, they are my favorite.
Thank god I watched this! I was blowing money on eBay! Thank you so much! 🇺🇸
I really appreciate your channel, you are a gentleman thank you.
Thank you!
I never buy rolls on eBay! The Feedback is negative for all this stuff.
Thank you for this info because I have recently just got into this (was my favorite hobby as a kid but couldnt invest obviously)
My journey so far is that Twice i have asked for rolls from the bank first time 10x quarters and 10x dimes and got like a few bicentennials but really not sure what im looking for besides 1964 or earlier.
Great video Daniel!
I agree with him 100% !
Yeah I agree it suits some people's personality. Gambler
Thank you because I was just thinking of doing this
Thanks for another wonderful video Daniel 🙂
You are the best ☺️☺️☺️
Great information. Thank you for sharing
Ironically, that's really exist. Kudos!
