I blame Joshua Graham Plague, it messed with poor Doc Mitchell's mind after seeing everyone he knew and loved die to it, and then..... Jon invaded and took over control of his body for this play through...
Jooon, you're making too many assumptions based on the base game about this mod! You should have checked your crafting kit that you started out with, you already passed up plenty of useful stuff...hammers can be broken down into materials to make throwing spears, scrap metal is useful for many things, leather belts (and therefore animal hides since they can be turned into leather belts) can be made into tourniquets and with other materials splints, and you can cook food on the go with a hot plate (which you left behind in the good doctor's home). Also check the workbenches next to the saloon, there are some pretty good things you can make with low repair, including weapon repair kits. Loving the series so far!
"Wait, I could have just let him go..." Oh no, it's the murder of the fleeing trapper boy all over again. Do you have some sort of predator instinct Jon? You see something escaping and your brain assumes it's prey that needs to be caught and killed.
Well jon broke the knife while fighting him So might as well get what he had and the exp All of the npc's are just walking exp and loot in this mod So why not threat them like prey?
REBLOG Hey MATN wanted to give a few more pointers. First cannibals are to Dust as Ghouls were to Frost. Second Goodsprings is another viable starting area to get to. Welcome to the Former Survivor's Journal, the only comment series where I, a man wearing a suit made of living bees, screech angrily at Jon's DUST exploits and then give useful advice. 1. Lead Belly is glitched, and it causes alcohol to give you +Rads. Avoid it like the Joshua Graham plague. 2. The mod's author cut corners by basically turning all the NPCs in a town into enemies. Some of them kinda get confused because of this; a good example is that coyote that was friendly to you when you got to Ghost Town. If you had ignored it, gotten into a fight with some other dog in Goodsprings and won, "Victor" would have come told you to be more careful, pardner, then go hostile and try to bite your shins off. 3. Check out the cartful of plague victims near the Prospector Saloon, one of them's got some juicy juicy lore on them. 4. The Karma symbol now represents sanity. It literally drives you mad with guilt to grab a spoon off an abandoned home. 5. USE THE CRAFTING KIT, IT HAS NEW AND USEFUL RECIPES REEEEE. 6. I told you on the first part of this series to remember ammo recycling. However, keep in mind that for whatever reason, that can bug out hard, and your weapons will ignore what you build for them; I don't have a full list or know the reasons why it happens, but I know that the Marksman's Carbine does this (it was like a bullet to the heart, having a low-weight, scoped, large magazine weapon that uses common ammo just ignore your efforts to keep it fed). 7. For more info, check my comments on past and future installments of Mole-assed Angliziced Traumatologist from Nevada's DUST LP series.
If you collect 4 dirty waters, you can turn them into Mass Purified Water with 2 glass pitchers and a surgical tubing. You can also use what little fruit that grows in Dust still like agave fruit and whatnot to make cactus water. When I played Dust, dirty water was like gold.
I'm not sure it's worth purifying though - in a world without disease, and where rads don't directly reduce your healthbar, and there's plentiful rad reducing booze, why not just drink the dirty water for extra hydration?

I think, odd as it sounds, it’s actually Victor. While exploring Goodsprings, it ran up to me and told me to be careful and how it felt responsible for saving my life. Afterwards it ran off back to sit outside the shack - just where Victor normally stands.
There is a perk called irriadeted beauty that you can get with endurance 6 and rads above 800 (yes 800). If you have this perk you can remove 100 rads everytime you sleep.
The karma system *is* the sanity system. That's why it wasn't implemented completely into Frost because FO4 got rid of the karma system. You gain sanity by stealing and basically doing anything that made you lose karma in the base game. If you want to check you sanity you just go to where your karma used to be displayed.
Rex Is that correct? I assumed that if you killed anyone you'd lose sanity, like in Frost. I haven't played much of Dust, because it isn't a genre I really play. I am just passing along things I've picked up from other LPs.

Right here is the biggest reason why hardcore mode is better designed than survival mode: The New Vegas Pipboy has a detailed read out as to exactly how much water, sleep and food you require as opposed to the ''eh, just guess what it is'' method from Fallout 4.
clearspira Survival mode is superior because it essentially acts like a realistic damage mod. Even in power armor, you are still vulnerable if you get swarmed or the enemy has a strong gun. That along with the tense feeling created by the lack of enemies on the compass really gives the game a more Hardcore survival feel compared the more "softcore survival" in New Vegas (which will likely be akin to the survival mechanics in Fallout 76)
Right, because our bodies all have a fixed numerical scale from 0 to 1000 that tells us the exact amount of food and water and sleep we need. I get that some people prefer NV over 4, but come on, man, this is just ridiculous. Give credit where it's due. Fallout 4's Survival Mode is vastly superior over Hardcore Mode in every respect. Survival Mode reshapes the entire game; 90% of the changes in Hardcore mode just make NV more tedious by forcing you to cart around more stuff and constantly micro-manage your inventory.
Jon. With Fallout 76 on the Horizon. With Fallout 4 YOLO also coming up. And the fact that since this is a completed mod it is MUCH longer than Frost. I suggest you make this Series... Two times a week... PLEASE! Just give us a bit more Fallout. Something during the week I beg you! My Wednesday's are so boring without a Jon Series!
I hate when people just spout out spoilers like that... at lease keep it cryptic clues, saying "go check this place out, you may find an OLD "friend"" or something, though even THAT may be giving too much away?
I have the ultimate evidence for the dog inside the Goodsprings' Saloon being Cheyenne: her eyeballs had plunged from the eyelids and were neatly floating to her right. Good ol' Cheyenne.
even in the base game, goodsprings spings didnt have water in the troughs, you have to drink from the valves! OR as Jon said in the last video, "let's go to lake mead! yea that'll be a GOOD source of water" oh jon jon jon.... cant wait for THAT episode, and also, I want to see him go to Novac and see that it has become!
The Wasteland Settler and Wasteland Wanderer outfits can be broken down into cloth which can become bandages in the crafting kit. They’re more reliable than getting stimpaks and better than wasting more valuable resources.
I wish you would've waited to do the Doc Mitchell run where you could play the character more like Doc. One of the appeals of your Fallout runs have always been the personality restrictions you've placed on your characters. Bacon = No Guns, P.D. Shoot = No Kill, Best Jon = Kill Everything. Even Grylls Bears had some kind of personality you would roleplay by adhering to the beliefs of the Brotherhood of Steel. I just don't feel like this mod is a mod that will allow you to actually play Doc Mitchell effectively.
I see him playing Doc as a similar character to say the Survivalist from Honest Hearts. A good man forced into the worst case scenario apocalypse and isolation. It kind of bugged me that he didn't pick medicine as a tagged skill, but this mod with survival mode is so cruel that I can forgive him. lol
Its also a little hard to RP when there is nothing to talk to. I mean he seems to be going for a "sane" playthrough so running around talking to himself isn't really a in character thing. Then again most playthroughs I have seen of this mod eventually turn into a "let's go insane and then go meet Wendy" run so it'll be interesting to see if he can pull off a sane run.
Jon, study use the workbench to see what recipes are available to craft for survival (doctor bags and such). This will help you figure out which skills to boost. Same with the campfire when you find one you can use safely. I haven't played Dust so I don't know what areas to go to.
VyseRogue13 I did too. Jumped off the edge and got apparently (swam for 1-2 hours) endless water. You can also make it into the Fort from the outside. I believe it took me about 6 hours to get there because of the trial and error involved in finding a route.
Wojtek Grzesznik it was in that general area. If you are asking where you get outside of the playable map, the only place I know of is further West. Go to Morning Star Cavern and go toward Crescent Canyon West. You can jump up on a rock ledge between the two to get above the canyon.
I'm really liking Dust so far! I'm glad the story in the mod fits your roleplaying as Doc as well. Since Frost was one of your best Fallout series on this channel yet despite the fact that you didn't enjoy some of it, I'm looking forward to see Dust. :)
Hey Jon, not sure if the mod keeps the rule in place since I never played it, but I do believe that, thanks to Lonesome Road, deathclaws & tunnelers are now abominations and can be repelled with fire. The incinerator could prove useful.
Some of these things seem to be replaced kinda lazily. Like, that dog outside Victor's shack, it seems to be standing in exactly the same place as Victor in the base game. Also, that weird neutral tunneler in the last episode was eerily reminiscent of the friendly gecko that runs around the road between Jean's Skydiving and Primm.
Jon, you can find a big backpack in Nipton house. It's always there. It destroys your agility but gives a lot of carry weight. Go to Nipton store for plot (lockpick 25 required) Lockpick skill is VERY useful. Start collecting C4. You'll need it later. Some tribals and survivors don't shot on sight, but it seems that all cannibals do. Almost all perks are changed (you can get almost every perk at level 2, and a lot of them works like traits now). Energy weapons are mostly useless. Stealing gives you sanity, for some reason.
@14:30 - I wonder if Jon was aware at this point that Leather Armor, Reinforced can be repaired with regular Leather Armor (which seems quite common in Dust, if the two he found on the corpses suggests).
Matn when it comes to alcohol just go with beer and wine since that REDUCE thirst for some reason and the starting warehouse by the airfield has a load of wine n the selves in the back area.Good luck john, you're gonna need it.
The dogs around good springs are probably cheyanne's descendants. We know that at some point, doc mitchell left goodsprings. Also, did anyone see Sunny Smile's corpse?
I like to think that when you went into the Prospector it was Cheyenne staying inside the bar which was why there was a dog inside but he killed Trudy and Sunny instead of the plague. And all the dogs around the town are Cheyennes babies. The real Doc Mitchell figured this out which is why he has locked himself away so that the dogs wouldn't kill him. But then he figured he was infected which lead to him fleeing through the backdoor. That is why he looks why he does and why he started in the Shack near the airfield
Three ways to be vilified by Goodsprings -Be a horrible person and get shot at by the people who helped you. -Play this mod and have people shake their fists at you from beyond the grave As for the third way, I was going to say “Be Jon” but not even he would go that far in the base game....right?
The first 10 minutes of this vid demonstrate the huge flaw in this mod that keeps me from playing this mod. Jon starts with a shotgun with a single shell, ammo is extremely limited for the player. He leaves the shack and the first person he meets happens to have a plasma weapon with unlimited ammo that can't be looted off their corpse. It just doesn't work. I can't see myself finding this at all immersive or enjoyable.
It's a common thing in these kinds of mods. Not just for Fallout. Misery, for STALKER, pulls the same bullshit and it is SO annoying and immersion breaking.
Josh Voelkner Doesn't matter really, their weapons are very fragille and with a good shot, you can disarm them or their weapons will break because they shoot too much. And most enemies are melee based anyway.
>Investing points in Survival >Not once trying to craft stuff Why are you like this? There's useful materials all over the place. Keep up the good work!
There's two kind of Iguana bits: the standard ones, which are what the name implies, and the special ones, which are human meat. If it doesn't lower your STR, it's most likely the former, the latter were a californian specialty anyway.
Maybe the Courier didn't survive being shot by Benny in this universe and that's why everything went wrong! And also why you can still loot all the skill books/magazines.
"The first thing you eat should not be human flesh, that's just a bad starting point..." *proceeds to eat what is more than likely falsely advertised human flesh*
Man I wish Jon would try out the Dust Musket. The ready ammo, the longer range than pistols, the ease of maintenance (It repairs off of junk like scrap metal and irons and crutches iirc) made it my main weapon for almost anything south of deathclaws in my playthrough. Also surprised nobody mentioned before that karma is reskinned as sanity, and having low sanity makes you see more hostile people, and can lock you in some 'sanity effect' areas, one of which is inescapable.I seem to recall morphine healing your limbs temporarily if they get broken, but don't think I used it much except to take slightly less damage from gun enemies where you're guaranteed to get popped once or twice.
Omg i waited so long for you to do this serie after you anounced frost. Believe me its amazing..(yeah im late cause this is part2 but still.... hope you make fun videos of this game)
Well one theory is (I think) that the Tunnellers were the original inhabitants who lived in the “Divide” or whatever it was known as pre-War. The years underground and being exposed to rads (and whatever else) made their bodies evolve to, well the Tunnellers.
Well from what i gathered the tunnellers were protesters that were sent to big mt and experimented on and sent back to the hopeville area just before the great war
The terminal referring to Big MT having a surprise for the protesters was referring to their use of human experimentation, rather than any form of experiment in particular. Think the likes of Little Yangtze or the Innovative Toxins Plant.
Jon: let's keep the inventory clean

I mean he was carrying around human remains at the same time so its not so odd
That femur has sentimental value lol

I'd cut him some slack, that Femur is the closest thing he has to a leg to stand on in this mod.

I'm just waiting for Jon to reach Honest Hearts, it's gonna be glorious
Zion is hell
So sunny with no windego in sight right?
Dead money for me
Surely if you remember all of the spawn locations you could just travel across the map picking up loot
Never stop your Fallout adventures. Your love for the games shine through in your videos.
Just gonna tell you that you should probably check out the caverns at Lake Mead for some more juicy Dust lore
Ikcatcher too late other comments already ruined it
Andrea Rossi Fuck
I hate when people just spout out spoilers like that... at lease keep it cryptic clues, saying "go check this place out, you may find an OLD "friend"" or something, though even THAT may be giving too much away?
this is so much better than others i have watched trying this mod. thanks.
"Beer is now the most wonderful thing in the world."
Damn right.
I've played this game for years and never knew Doc Mitchell had a back door or even a back yard for that matter. Crazy.
Doc still had a backyard AND with corn, (which Jon also forgot to get or even go near the corn stocks by the houses behind the general store
Shuckle Squad I know I just mean I never gave it noticed and never even considered he might have back yard as well.
to be fair... there is rather no reason at all to go back there,
"beer is now the most wonderful thing in the world"
As a German I am rather confused. Is there a point in history where it wasn't?
I have the ultimate evidence for the dog inside the Goodsprings' Saloon being Cheyenne: her eyeballs had plunged from the eyelids and were neatly floating to her right. Good ol' Cheyenne.
even in the base game, goodsprings spings didnt have water in the troughs, you have to drink from the valves! OR as Jon said in the last video, "let's go to lake mead! yea that'll be a GOOD source of water" oh jon jon jon.... cant wait for THAT episode, and also, I want to see him go to Novac and see that it has become!
45:15I have so many hours in new vegas yet somehow never even knew this existed
Jon, I am so excited for this. Been watching ever since the no kill runs, and been waiting for this ever since your brilliant YOLO runs
Nobody:
MATN: A pretty good starting point!
So glad you're doing another part Jon and not just making this a one-off, you're awesome
"If i just jump off ledges then they won't be able to follow me"
How i run away from all my problems😂
The crafting kit has some custom recipes for the mod, including using a hot plate to cook dog meat without a campfire
Oh, this is going to be a great series. Can't wait for more!
The Wasteland Settler and Wasteland Wanderer outfits can be broken down into cloth which can become bandages in the crafting kit. They’re more reliable than getting stimpaks and better than wasting more valuable resources.
Ref3rence pretty much everything is useful and he throws most stuff away
I wish you would've waited to do the Doc Mitchell run where you could play the character more like Doc. One of the appeals of your Fallout runs have always been the personality restrictions you've placed on your characters. Bacon = No Guns, P.D. Shoot = No Kill, Best Jon = Kill Everything. Even Grylls Bears had some kind of personality you would roleplay by adhering to the beliefs of the Brotherhood of Steel. I just don't feel like this mod is a mod that will allow you to actually play Doc Mitchell effectively.
During hard tramas men can be broken and reformed to survive, if doc survived he probably wouldn't be the same man that fixed the courier
I see him playing Doc as a similar character to say the Survivalist from Honest Hearts. A good man forced into the worst case scenario apocalypse and isolation. It kind of bugged me that he didn't pick medicine as a tagged skill, but this mod with survival mode is so cruel that I can forgive him. lol
P.D. Shoot was YOLO.
“Doc Mitchell’s back door appears to be open.”
Kinky.
Jon, study use the workbench to see what recipes are available to craft for survival (doctor bags and such). This will help you figure out which skills to boost. Same with the campfire when you find one you can use safely. I haven't played Dust so I don't know what areas to go to.
I escaped the Mojave once, but only found miles of dirt and the edge of the world.
VyseRogue13 I did too. Jumped off the edge and got apparently (swam for 1-2 hours) endless water. You can also make it into the Fort from the outside. I believe it took me about 6 hours to get there because of the trial and error involved in finding a route.
Was this dirt south of Searchlight airport?
Wojtek Grzesznik - Nope, I climbed over the mountains West of Goodsprings.
Wojtek Grzesznik it was in that general area. If you are asking where you get outside of the playable map, the only place I know of is further West. Go to Morning Star Cavern and go toward Crescent Canyon West. You can jump up on a rock ledge between the two to get above the canyon.
VyseRogue13 I didn't know about that one. Did you keep going West, or did you reach the edge somewhere else.
Pick up the hotplate in Doc Mitchells house, use it with the crafting kit as a portable campfire.
Jon, please, turn on the pipboy light while you are indoors, it was a little bit too dark in those houses in Goodsprings
I'm really liking Dust so far! I'm glad the story in the mod fits your roleplaying as Doc as well. Since Frost was one of your best Fallout series on this channel yet despite the fact that you didn't enjoy some of it, I'm looking forward to see Dust. :)
Jon, use that .22L pistol, it does the same damage as the 9m and is quiet. THERE were two of there in the bar
Hey Jon, not sure if the mod keeps the rule in place since I never played it, but I do believe that, thanks to Lonesome Road, deathclaws & tunnelers are now abominations and can be repelled with fire. The incinerator could prove useful.
Like My Comment Fam so you are right in the mod, but in vanilla its only the flare gun
You could have repaired the Old World duster. Probably with the leather duster. That you dropped. And one of the hats.
Also low sanity actually changes things in dust
@14:30 - I wonder if Jon was aware at this point that Leather Armor, Reinforced can be repaired with regular Leather Armor (which seems quite common in Dust, if the two he found on the corpses suggests).
Very excited for Fallout: DUST You Only Live Once
Matn when it comes to alcohol just go with beer and wine since that REDUCE thirst for some reason and the starting warehouse by the airfield has a load of wine n the selves in the back area.Good luck john, you're gonna need it.
The dogs around good springs are probably cheyanne's descendants.
We know that at some point, doc mitchell left goodsprings.
Also, did anyone see Sunny Smile's corpse?
This video is a good ending to a sunday, thank you
The best survival horror experience i have ever seen.
1:00:21 I like to think of this as a bitter sweet moment for doc Mitchell
Every time he fucking wasted bullets on small critters and animals, *my heart broke.*
Watched more and apparently he thinks using bullets on humans is more wasteful. FFS
Doc kills a dog... "Were in the Endgame now"
Thanks for putting out great content!
This is about 20 years after new vegas, Cheyenne is definitely dead, the dogs being their kids was something I thought too
his game is bugged. Sunny was supposed to be there too and shoot him as soon as he went in the door.
But maybe the plague altered Cheyenne so that he lived longer but had a huge effect on the population of Goodsprings
There is only a female body in Doc's house. The real doc is gone/dead.
Which is why the back door is unlocked because he left through that door to escape the dogs
Three ways to be vilified by Goodsprings
-Be a horrible person and get shot at by the people who helped you.
-Play this mod and have people shake their fists at you from beyond the grave
As for the third way, I was going to say “Be Jon” but not even he would go that far in the base game....right?
Tunnel snakes rule
Communism is gay
Funnel cakes rule
Fancypanda It's actually quite generous with ammo but the water is a problem
Fancypanda also i find it enjoyable
That's the point of the mod though.
Extreme difficulty.
Josh Voelkner
Doesn't matter really, their weapons are very fragille and with a good shot, you can disarm them or their weapons will break because they shoot too much.
And most enemies are melee based anyway.
"It was one beer, I am not that much of a lightweight." Jon, we've seen you when you drink wine.
>Investing points in Survival
>Not once trying to craft stuff
Why are you like this? There's useful materials all over the place. Keep up the good work!
"Lets not start with Cannilbalism"
*Proceeds to consume human flesh*
Squirrel bits are actually people lmao
it was an actual squirrel if you look at when he picked it up.
its iguana bits not Squirrel if you play the originals
Squirrel bits are actually squirrel. Iguana bits and strange meat are human.
you all say that but look at the actual model for Iguana Bits and its is an actual charred Iguana on a stick.
And also why you can still loot all the skill books/magazines.
cvbn2000
Spoilery lad, aintcha?
Rui Leite no but there is an overhaul mod that does that consept
Missed the valves at the the goodsprings source.
Zen Real If there's no more functional pumps then shouldn't those valves not work?
Zen Real they wouldn't work
The sink and valve activators had their water scripts removed so they don't do anything now.
Wow bear hydrates and hard alcohol dehydrates. that's a surprisingly good attention to detail.
I had to do a beer run halfway through watching this. Your commentary got me thirsty af.
"The first thing you eat should not be human flesh, that's just a bad starting point..."
*proceeds to eat what is more than likely falsely advertised human flesh*
Yay I'm early for once. Thanks Matn I really needed this today.
doc Mitchell the synth
I just realized, there is a good chance that that non-hostile dog you killed in front of victors shack was Cheyenne sunny smiles dog.
Actually it was victor...yea I know better not ask any questions about it
Wait what? I mean I'm not sure I can go on without asking questions about that, to google I go!
*DUST takes place 20 years after the events of New Vegas.* holy shit that dog is immortal
Well it's not impossible, very unlikely true but if the dog was say 2 in new vegas then she could still be alive in dust.
Thomas Geursen I would like to think they are the offspring.
This series has got me bak to waitin on sundays for the next episode like Power
I think the "good" and "bad" faces that usually show your allignment now represent your sanity
*starting point*
Survival allows you to also cook certain stuff, iirc at survival 50 you can cook dog meat, which you can find a lot in Goodsprings.
Begin....again...in the night...
Let's sway...again...tonight...
Wojtek Grzesznik Your aaaaaaaaaaaarms, on my shouuuuuuuuulderrrs
After the first episode, I was waiting for this one happily.
Jon's gone from using too much melee weapons to then barely bothering to use them, even when he could have saved a ton of ammo, such as with the ants.
TheChaoticChangeling survival jon is best jon
Well one theory is (I think) that the Tunnellers were the original inhabitants who lived in the “Divide” or whatever it was known as pre-War. The years underground and being exposed to rads (and whatever else) made their bodies evolve to, well the Tunnellers.
If I recall correctly, the Courier and Ulysses effectively confirmed that by postulating what the fuck could have created the Tunnlers.
Is it just me or would anyone else expect doc mitchel to atleast be good at you know..medicine?
T Ver it's survival over role play at this point
