    After the battle of Midway, the actual spent a lot of its short career anchored in the Truk lagoon acting as Yamamoto's floating headquarters. It was called the floating palace by many of the IJN captains in the region, and was especially liked by them as it had air conditioning and freezers full of cold beer.😀

    Great roundup of the rails and sprues, and more rails😜. It was only missing the box opening shots, how the boxes were laid out IS important to know. For a 200 scale ship, not an outrageous price really, and would still expect to spend another $500 on gun barrels and other aftermarket (maybe not more rails tho). Gonna need a bigger paint booth too while I'm thinking about it 🤔.

    That is a big ship! I built a full-hull HMS Hood cardstock model at the same scale years ago and you will need some serious shelf space for this one!

    • @mpetersen6
      @mpetersen6 2 роки тому +3

      And that card model was a lot cheaper! I used to belong to the Warship Modeler site and there were members who used card models as the basis for scratch building larger scale models. One I remember being fone was the USS Indianapolis. Of course one great feature of card models is the ability to rescale. Just a little bit hard in styrene.

    I am glad I don’t make nautical model kits, especially this kit, just did a quick eBay search and it appears that there are no United Kingdom 🇬🇧 sellers, however, you can purchase it from a United States 🇺🇸 seller, the price tag……………hold onto your hats, just shy of £1000 + shipping for just under £300, that makes it a very very large investment for most people here in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧, but thanks for sharing the unboxing, that is a lot of kit, it is no surprise that it is expensive and that it is probably value for money 💴. Thanks again FSM. 😀👍🇬🇧🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇺🇸🇺🇦

I just completed a 1:200 scale Nichimo Yamato, this kit is light years ahead of the original kit in detail. That is a remarkable kit and actually the price is not that unreasonable considering that you have pretty much all you need for a very impressive and quite detailed model right out of the box. Yep, there's a LOT of ship in that box! The price doesn't get me. It's the size of that huge box. I build car models by Model Factory Hiro and their 1/12 kits regularly exceed $800 so when I see this model and think about how much joy some 1/200 ship builder is going to have, it's not unreasonable. I think I'll stick with 1/700 ships (and 1/43 MFH models)!

    • @FineScaleModelermagazine
      @FineScaleModelermagazine  2 роки тому +1

      There really is a lot of ship in the box. And you make a great point: Expectations and sensitivity to price varies greatly from modeler to modeler. Large-scale ships are cool, but you can fit a whole bunch more 1/700 scale ships on your shelf!

    Now that's a serious model, a lot of people buy these to convert into R/C due to the high detail these kits offer, rather than a basic R/C you can take down the local lake. 1/350 carrier is big, 1/200 even bigger, plus in this scale much better figures available plus a good phototech offering everything from brass barrel to upper structure

    I am surprised trumpeter hasn't yet produced the Yamato in its 1/200 extensive range of WW2 war ships. The largest I have built so far is the Missouri which will be a couple of inches shorter than this. This is a kit I might treat myself to later this year but finding the shelf space is another story but I do tend to spend quite a lot on making acrylic dust covers for them.

    • @FineScaleModelermagazine
      @FineScaleModelermagazine  2 роки тому +1

      MRC in the U.S. (and other companies around the world) contracted with Trumpeter to produce this kit for its Gallery Models range--so, in essence, it has produced the Yamato to go alongside its other 1/200 scale warships. Good luck on finding the space and building a new cover!

      The realization for us came from listening to Japanese people saying the name, and we were like, Oh! YAH-ma-to is the way it should be pronounced. Even now, after years of hearing ya-MAH-to, it's tough to not slip back into that, but we're trying to be better about it.

    • @FineScaleModelermagazine
      @FineScaleModelermagazine  2 роки тому +1

      This can get a bit confusing and more nuanced, but here's the quick version: Gallery Models is a company owned by Model Rectifier Corp (MRC), based in the U.S. It contracted with Trumpeter to produce a 1/200 scale Yamato. Trumpeter has contracts with other companies around the world for the same kit, thus the different boxings. These sorts of deals aren't unusual in the scale model industry.

    Correct pronunciation puts accent on the second syllable, not the first.

    • @FineScaleModelermagazine
      @FineScaleModelermagazine  2 роки тому +1

      According to our findings, the emphasis on the second syllable is an Americanization of the name. What we've been told by Japanese speakers and can hear with close listening ourselves in Japanese-language movies and television, the accent is on the first syllable: YAH-mah-to. As one person explained it to us: It's like Yamaha; YAH-ma-ha, not yah-MAH-ha. We don't claim to be the experts on pronunciation of foreign words, but we do our research and try to pronounce non-English words correctly, despite our varied results. Thanks for watching!

    Ponto’s 1/700 Yamato kit has way more to offer for a 150 bucks, photo etch, wooden deck, turned metal barrels and a very nice double sided poster of the artwork. Plus it will fit on a shelf. These giant scale kits are overkill, way too expensive and unpractical. This scale should be reserved for museum displays.
