Seriously underrated movie.
one of my all time favorites
“Distinctive” is the better word for this film
Its utterly original and a work of art. Not many movies have the corruption of something pure as the main theme, someone pure, yes, but almost never something. Plus the movies concepts are relevant today now that technology has caught up to what this movie imagined, and remote controlled robot warfare is already reality.
Well it’s not for everyone
@@GGoAwayy They did go more then a bit overboard on video games being mind controling not only for kids which is false info since your average gamer is over 20 years old but also pretty much saying we don't know reality from fantasy and Most gamers know the difference for real
Incredible how this movie predicted military drones, terrifying.
military drones have been around since the 70s..
This song always makes me feel like I'm listening to a fusion of New Order and Talking Heads
Yass 😎
Considering it’s done by the guy who done “She Blinded Me With Science”, it makes sense for some reason.
It also has Pet Shop Boys’ West End Girls rap thrown in with the obvious New Order and Talking Heads.
@@apollozero Lookup the names Trevor Horn, Thomas Dolby, and Bruce Woolley... especially Trevor Horn.
There's a reason why so much of the style seems familiar ;)
@@travcollier I am well aware of these guys, thank you.
Joan Cusack and Robin Williams is the perfect combo
Will never stop loving this song
“There’s no reality..just an illusion “ loved this when I was a kid
It's so real and surreal ;)
A brilliant movie that predicted the use of military drones being remotely controlled by video game reared service members.
Right now in Ukraine one of the leaders of their micro Drone Batallion crew is literally a 16 year old kid.
They interviewed him and his dad, said he was flying drones few months before War happened. When War started he was going off with his dji and locating Russians hiding in the forests.
Legit
@@soulfinderecho6462 Legit??? You say that like children flying armed drones on behalf of a corrupt government is a _good_ thing.
Not only has drone warfare killed FAR more innocents than combatants, but drone operators are extremely likely to develop PTSD. A 16 year old drone pilot is not a positive, happy story. It’s horrible.
It seems to me that you entirely missed the point of the movie and have a Reddit-tier understanding of the war in Ukraine.
So true! I said the same thing to my girlfriend after watching the movie. Brilliant movies predict the future.
I think they meant “this legit happened” not that the circumstances were “Legit!” as in “Cool!”
Yolanda and Steve!
The set designs in this film was amazing.
Rip to a great actor Robin Williams we still miss you
The Buggles "Video Killed the Radio Star" meet Thomas Dolby "She Blinded Me with Science"... that whole soundtrack is pretty good.
God bless Robin Williams 🙏❤️💐
Early nineties still had the 80s nostalgia
It was still basically the 80's. Not much changed in the early 90's. Even up until the mid 2000's, a lot of stores locally were still "stuck" in the 80's and 90's until they were bulldozed to make Walmarts and soulless strip malls. I know you didn't mean for someone to make a long winded comment to your post, I just wanted to agree with you and point out the 80's still went strong for quite a while after it officially ended.
Pop culture is typically from mid-decade to mid-decade. So...yep! Great movie in so many ways. I got to work on a film in Michigan with Barry Levinson's son, Sam years ago and I told him I really loved 'Toys.' He said, 'so you're the one who saw it!' LOL
yep
The early 90s were like 80s on steroids. It didn’t really become “the 90s” until around 1993-94
This moment in the film manages to fully encompass the aesthetic of the early 90s and adds an amazing amount of depth to both of these characters. It's so smart. Funny because I feel like Mission Impossible copied this in Ghost Protocol nearly 20 years later.
it was my first thought!
:( We miss you so much, Robin
This movie is such a trip! Definitely watched it when I was too young to understand what the hell was happening but it was always such an escapist film. Although my sister was terrified of the Tori Amos song that played over the credits.
This movie is brilliant and this seen is one of the best in cinema,, it's just so original this should be available on amazon music but its not, yet?? and to find out it was written buy the guy who wrote the first song to ever play on MTV, the depth of this is mind blowing. parody within a parody within a parody, in a movie inspired buy René Magritte's works, making a MTV video based again on his works, and written by Trevor Horn, just freaking awesomeness.
Just to clarify, Thomas Dolby did help with the recording of "Video Killed the Radio Star" by the Buggles and also played keys for the track but didn't write the song. All-in-all, I love that you pointed out this nostalgia and what a great movie accompanied by an awesome OST
This is my favorite song in the whole movie!
I love this movie and this movie!! The second band I was in was called Zevo.the guitarist and I loved this soundtrack and Noone else knew about this movie.truly a hidden gem.
Love Joan Cusack she is so beautiful & gorgeous
Maybe to the blind.
@@user-qjvqfjv Not Nice
This is the most early 90s thing ever
Holy shit I had no idea the bad guys suv was the Lamborghini LM002 lol That's awesome! 1:05
Tripping balls rn
She’s mashing it…very good.
Toys is one of my favorite movies - it's brilliant.
The instrumental Version is in The Teaser Trailer
So Magritte I love it
It gave the message clear.....humans love war and war gamea.
No, it placed us in a completely safe, dreamlike place and showed us a battle of good vs evil where nothing was at risk, so it was safe to open our hearts, think in terms of ideals, and learn instead of making satisficing decisions out of necessity because the danger is too close.
Love this movie. I love that LL Cool J is the cousin! So military!! 😅
May Robin Williams live in us all.
Bless this man. For eternity.
Trevor Horn, Thomas Dolby, and Bruce Woolley.
If you're not familiar with these names (or in the case of Thomas Dolby, if you only know about a few pop songs), you really should do a web search on these folks. They are all legends. Trevor Horn especially has had his hand in making sooooo much great music you quite likely didn't know he had a hand in making ;)
You been living under a rock. 😅
This is a great song in the movie!
Amazing edit! Always loved this song and the movie.
I was just watching the movie 🎥 it still amazing fun movie Rip Robin Williams you are always my hero
thanks a lot. This scene has been in my mind since I was little.
Many good days go by!
2:56 is Me !!!
Hi Christopher! Welcome here. Always thought about how grown the kids seen in this movie are now and how they feel about it and their experience filming it. Thank you for stepping by 😊
At first I thought that was just a joke comment but damn dude, congrats for being in the most culturally relevant film for our time, at least when it comes to tech vs spirit I think this is the most relevant.
This movie is so trippy
ありがとう‼️大好き‼️
Thank You❤
It's a head of it's time a classic film
Not gonna lie; I was hoping this would be a "full" version of the Robin Williams/Joan Cusack version . . . that being said, I actually enjoyed this version, and thought the video editing was perfectly spot on for the few clips of their "hallway" video.
Evan Morgan thank you, ua-cam.com/video/mt8ciZ_yK5Q/v-deo.html i thought i had seen the full clip on vimeo but can't find it now
@@TELLViSiON Same and it was on youtube, and it was suddently deleted to never be seen again.
@@Moneo_Atreides yeah well don't worry things will get better before they get worse there's always hope
@@Moneo_Atreides Omelet du fromage?
Their version has never been released, may not have made one.
1:42 you can hear the roland d50 preset that is also used on the intro to michael jackson's 'dirty diana'
This video is hilarious it makes me laugh every time
This feels like an unsolvable math problem! Love it!!
(Also, a segment of this song was re-used in the film 'Gate to the Mind's Eye', which Thomas Dolby also composed the music for)
What is truly terrifying is that this movie predicted the detachment achievable with remote controlled Unmanned Vehicles and combat drones and no one talks about it.😢
Wish they would release a special edition of this film on blu ray!
NIce edit.
Mike Longo thank you !
Mirror mirror! 🪞
Disney need to do a Blu-ray release!
I have always watched this song in the film version and only from watching this video now learned it was co-written by Trevor Horn and suddenly everything about it makes a lot more sense
Groovy
A great memory of what should be added to our collection of great Christmas movies. Joy, heartbreak, hope and endurance! Love and faith prevail! Awesome music too! Enjoy! Rejoice!
R.I.P. Robin Williams
4:15 when your girlfriend sees you texting someone 😂
Memories of things that never happened
These are always the hardest to forget
All the old friends and the loved ones
These are the people you haven't even met
Looking forward into the old days
Looking back at what there will be
There's no reality it's just an illusion
There's no real sanity just plain confusion
How do you feel?
Well I don't know just how I feel
All I know that I love you girl (what is real)
It's so real, so real, surreal
Here we go
There is no single circumstance I never took a final chance
I made it something that you can see and touch forever
I always looked the same from every angle and never cast a shadow
That would change the way you thought about your very being
That what what you were seeing would always be
Would always be
Would always be the truth
How do you feel?
Well I don't know just how I feel
All I know that I love you girl (what is real)
It's so real, so real, surreal
It's so real, so real, surreal
It's so real, so real, surreal
Ooh it's so real, so real, surreal
Oh all right ah!
Well I don't know just how I feel
"We have a tradition of whimsy here at Zevo toys
Dad began that tradition with Milton the Friendly Elephant
And it carries all the way through the new line"
There is no single circumstance I never took a final chance
I made myself a thing that you could see and touch forever
You always looked the same from every angle and never cast a shadow
That would change the way I felt about about your very being
That what what you say would always be
Would always be
Would always be
Would always be the truth
How do you feel?
Well I don't know just how I feel
All I know that I love you girl
It's so real, so real, surreal
All the seasons I have spoken
All the reasons I have rhymed
For the state of incandescence
Just imagine what is real
Simply then the words were spoken
Just imagine what is real
What is real
What is real
thank you for the lyrics
Another classic song that isn't on spotify. *face palms*
One of the ultimate Blank Check movies made in my lifetime.
FANTASTIC
Videoclip directed by René Magritte :D
This was a perfect movie. They just don't make 'em like this anymore.
All I know is that I will always love this movie
I would be lying if i said this was not a bop
mission impossible took this idea with the hallway.
0:03 it always confused me and cracked me up as a kid hearing that subtle "mmm! Mmm! Mmmmm!" In the background
Art
I had always wanted to name my daughter Elstree Alsatia. I was showing my daughter the Buggles video for Elstree and then came here to show her this one so she could see where the two names I'd wanted to give her sister came from. Then I saw Trevor Horn's name and I'd had not remembered his connection. What an interesting connection. Had I used that name the two names would have been tired together by Trevor.
Love this song classic
Toys. My Favorite. I Bet Mega Bloks, Legos, And Toy Cars Are My Favorite. And It Reminds Me To Do My Homemade Movies!
Mission impossible use this trick
Molding into warmongering psychopaths. I loved this movie when a kid 😊
Man the 90s was a coked out surreal wonderland
I love how the scene where the children are playing the war games... foreshadows todays weaponizing of video games.Leslie (Williams) looks on with a WTF expression of such perversions. Williams in real life was a fan of World of Warcraft a MMORPG about warfare...
Looked like
(Joan Cusack) was doing some
(Eddie Van Halen) finger tapping.
Only finding this in 2021
Tiene un aire a las canciones de un dúo inglés que sacaba canciones muy psicodélicas, creo que se llama Pet Shop Boys. Buena Robín. 🙏🏻
Wait, they did that screen/hallway trick before Mission Impossible 2?
Is anyone else reminded about hallway scene from Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol ?
Toys did it first
this came 19 years before the mission impossible movie. they ripped it off though did it better
I don't know just how I feel
Good old Magritte. ;)
So this is where Tom Cruise got it from for Mission Impossible
😂❤
I was today years old when I realized General Zevo’s plan came true. These are just drones in 1991…
Ending credits of the movie toys
I'm surprised nobody's taken notice of the inherent deliciousness of the troll going on here.
The whole song and music video is nothing but a distraction and misdirection and the lyrics are all about... well, broken reality!
who would have known this film predicted what warfare is to day "DRONES"
That’s the power of paying attention to what’s going on in the world. You can predict things long before they actually happen. (..and constantly get called a “conspiracy theorist” by all the sheep who get their news from TV and Twitter.) Lol
So, Mission impossible took "inspiration" from here for ghost protocol?
I miss Mr. williams
Kudos to whoever pieced this together !
You worked with the original clips and REALLY captured the sad, brutal a-ha! moment of the new management's secret agenda.
I always wondered if this was a (truthful) jab towards Microsoft.
In 2022 it is still wondered if aggression & rage is channeled through these violent video games and transferred to the player ?
This is what happened too
Why didn't this hit the Billboards chart?🤔
Joan&Robin. Not Barman &Robin. This is true MTV 👍
Nod to talking heads with a bit of new order thrown in lol
This should have been on a GTA radio station. Radio Broker probably
Did they homage this in Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol?
just ripped it off
Did you make this? I swear there was a version like this that played on MTV back in the day.
Yes, i made this one from scratch. I'll be amazed to see the one you are talking about 😃. To my knowledge I've always only known the music video for the closing of the year.
@@TELLViSiON We talked about it on our Toys podcast episode, but yes I do remember seeing a video much like you made, but I can't find it anywhere online.
Of course it's possible that I could be misremembering.
@@BigDumbMovie well, after all - memories are things that never happened...

Still trips me out that robin Williams ain’t here no more
The imagery is one big nod to a French artist, though I can’t remember his name.
The artist is René Magritte. He's a french speaking artist from Belgium which is another country at the North border of France.
@@TELLViSiON I forgot Magritte was Belgian, too.
Talking heads inspired?
