    Point #3 is why I love large print personal size Bibles. When I became a Christian as a teenager, I saved up my babysitting money and picked out my own Bible that happened to be a personal size. Now, that's the kind of Bible that just "feels right" to me.

    The difference between the 2 are that the Full Grain Leather is made from the top layer of the animal hide, which is really strong and has a rich texture. This gives the leather its nice, refined look.
    On the other hand, Genuine Leather can be taken from any layer of the hide and is often sanded or buffed to smooth out any natural imperfections.

    Thinlines are great! They're so portable and just the right size to fit in your hand and flip through easily. My first bible was a thinline R. L. Allan (Collins Fontana 16 mo. ref.) that my parents gifted me in 1977. It was my daily throughout my teens and I still love the familiar thin profile! It has an 8 pt. font, is 5 1/4" x 7 1/2" and only 7/8" thick, but it still has a 250-page concordance and a set of maps.

      The paper in the CSB Thinline wrinkles a lot and doesn'thold up at all with microns. I used 005 microns and colored pencils in mine, and it is ruined.

    Genuine leather is the mdf of leather, whereas full grain is the solid wood of leather. Then different qualities of full grain leather from low to high end. Same as pine wood to solid oak or cherry wood

    • @wsmoran
      @wsmoran 24 дні тому

      The MDF of leather would be bonded leather. Genuine leather is more of a catchall term for leather, but tends to be a partial grain, usually outer layer, sometimes mid layer

    • @Billybillybillyrocking
      @Billybillybillyrocking 24 дні тому

      @wsmoran I do disagree because bonded leather involves the blending of plastics. Genuine leather is only leather manufactured into sheets from off cuts and scraps from major factories. It's a way basically every manufacturer recycles and gets money for their waste. Genuine leather is heavily corrected just like bonded but it is only leather. Many uses will have stiffeners in between 2 pieces of "leather". Belts is a really good example of this.

  • @nickspitzley8539

    Thinlines with center column reference is such an instant nostalgic bible feel for me. I think it's because the last bible my grandmother had (never really knew her, she passed when I was still practically a baby) was given to my mom and its an old 84 NIV Thinline in burgundy bonded leather with center column references.
    Then, the various center column reference Cambridge bibles I've always seen. Something about it.
    But I love my large print thinline CSB. For just a little bit of extra real-estate the print size is great.

    I have a growing collection of thinlines: NIV, NASB95, NKJV, TLV, and some differing sizes of other translations, but the NIV & NASB95 are my go-to. For the same reasons, I love these more than any other format. I'm only 23, so I have no need for large text bibles; the thinline has small yet readable text, and is the most portable and practical out of any other bible format I've seen. Thinline for the win 🔥

    I was beginning to think (with all the bloopers) that you needed a nap before doing this video, but you got it together. LOL, it added so much fun to the beginning. Additionally, it kept me from tuning out. I'm not a thinline fan. I'm a little older than you (70 yrs.) but recently had my vision corrected by cataract removal and implants. So I can now read 7 pt font without to much difficulty. Also, the gsm /opacity on thinline was always to thin, allowing the words to bleed through the pages. However, this one look great. I'm impressed. Usually I stick to 32 gsm personal size, but I may need to look into the new thinlines. Thanks again for a fun informative video.

    As far as portability and the phone, consider a Kindle Oasis. They don't make them anymore so you have to ebay them, but they are front lit with a nice grip and two buttons so you can turn pages with your gripping thumb. Front lit as opposed to back lit makes the page look like paper and is easy on your eyes. I hve 8 translations, and all are study bibles on mine. They are a bit over $200 now if you can find one. Love your channel.

      I've been carrying my collection of Bibles, hymnals (plus Liber Usualis) and my Book of Common Prayer on my various Kindles for a decade now. I have the original Kindle XL, which is no longer supported, but it's easy to upload to it with my PC. A bit heavy, but less than the whole library :) It's not backlit, but the size and font adjustments make it great for music or lecturn reading.
      I've got an old Paperwhite in a goatskin cover that I carry in my bag and dearly love, but it's got an annoying dead pixel, so I've recently replaced it with the current stock Kindle.
      If you set up Alexa to monitor Amazon offerings, you can occasionally get discontinued models as resales or refurbished, and they run good deals on pay by the month on newer products.
      I also have a couple Echo Shows for videos and other tasks. They are fairly loud and clear, and flexible for reading out loud.
      I have several vision problems and MS, and the Kindles and Alexa are great assistive tools that don't cost an arm and leg.

    Full grain is the entire grain of leather. Will be thicker leather depending on the part of the cow its from. Genuine leather is more of a catch all name, bit tends to be either the outer layer or mid layer of the grain. Genuine leather is usually also corrected grain, where they buff out any blemishes to make it "appear" nicer.

    I love thinline too, I discovered them just few months back through UA-cam videos like this. I ordered the cheapest Church ESV Bible, so right now I only have and read that one. Will buy more later in future. The faint red letter may have been intentional by the editors making it unique for those Protestants who argue that Jesus' words don't apply to the church as he was an Old Testament guy. This reasoning is eventually presented while defending faith alone. So it's best to make the words faint that it's easy to skip them and don't fall for reading them as they are too judgmental and work based commands. On a serious note, you should start preaching against the red letter silly convention altogether to save us from this mess. It's absurd and ironic when they really don't believe his words apply to us. Red letter should be avoided for various reasons.

    I thought I would like thinline Bibles because of the longer lines of texts. I got one, and I like how thin and flexible it is, but the lengths of the lines of text actually make my eyes more tired than the usual shorter ones. I can either read usual narrow columns, or regular books with only one column taking most of the page. The in-between column width of the thinline Bibles its tiring and annoying to my eyes. For me its because, even though on narrower columns my eyes still have to jump often to the beginning of the next verse, the jump is shorter. On thinlines, my eyes still have to jump often, but the distance is bigger. On regular books, the jump is bigger, but way less often.

    I like my thinlines, I have too many of them, but it needs references to qualify as a carry - preferably in a centre column or margin. My "The One" being a CSB thinline reference. Just picked up an NLT thinline centre-column reference today too, so now I have two to tote around.
    Growing up, my only bible for my pleasure was an NIV study bible and so I can't just have plain text. Doesn't look right.

    Do you like large print (larger size) thinline bibles or personal size (smaller than the large print thinlines, but thicker) bibles better?

    two thinline bibles i have are the NASB thinline large print in blue buffalo leather and the KJV Thinline Giant Print from the Premier Collection, it has a 12-point print size and it is Literally nothing but Scripture. the only thing on each page is just the text of Scripture and that's it. no footnotes, no cross-references, nothing. the only thing it has in the back are some Scriptures to look up depending on how you're feeling and it has some of the prayers and promises of the Bible and the miracles and parables of Jesus ( which Does include the Gospel of John and the Good Shepherd even though a lot of bibles leave that out in their " Help Features " in the back of a lot of Bibles ).

    Do you know of any Thinline Bibles with line matched text? Seems like that’s rare

    Just ordered my first thinline Bible; God help me it is a NIV too. I tend towards Bibles that share my body type, big and wide. I've spent the first 40 plus years of my walk with a KJV as my translation. I was a KJV only sort of guy until I modernized with a NKJV that became my prefered reading version circa 2005. Starting in the mid 1980's I added the NASB, NIV, Amplified, and a HCSB to the library. Most recently, like in the last two years, I've added a printed 1560 edition Geneva and finally the ESV a few months ago. I do have a question though. I'm not asking it as a troll, as I am in a similar boat. Since all our worldly goods will be burnt up at some point, and I figure this means any and all collections, should we limit the quantities of things we enjoy collecting? I do not have as many Bibles as you, maybe a dozen KJV's or more in various versions, but do collect model trains that are related to my time in transportation and such circa 1975ish. I enjoy the artistry of modeling things I remember, but if they all went away, I'd not be super sad. I'd trade everything for the ability to keep a great Bible in hand, and that would be enough, well that and my glasses. What do you think?

    Hey Tim! Quick question. Is there such a thing as a thinline ESV single column? Thanks for your videos.

      Actually there used to be. I gave mine away. There are some reviews on UA-cam if you search. But it wasn’t thin and the ghosting was awful

    Hi Tim, you crack me up..all the takes you took at the beginning of this video 😂😂, then all the times you forgot what type of leather Bible this was and having to get up to go look it up again and again 😂😂 are you just getting old and/or just forgetful. Just kidding 😊 but that’s the stuff I do and I’m 63. You’re too young for that. I love the thin line Bible and I have several crossways Bibles, thanks to you. Unfortunately my eyes are not good enough for the 8 pt. font. Can you recommend a good thin line Bible that would be at least a 9pt font? Thank you. You’re great. Blessings to you and Becca.

    The paper is always too thin on the thinline Bibles. And even with reading glasses, the type face is too small for my 65-year-old eyes😢.

    Thinlines are awesome. Sadly, my eyes don't agree! I should wear glasses but I'm also prone to putting things down and forgetting them so my glasses would never be on my face. They'd be at the store, at work, at church or at a friends house.
