Very good review and the comments below are even better. I am a Roland digital piano user (FP-90X with dedicated stand and pedals) and my only upgrade path would be Yamaha CLP775
Great and helpful video indeed! I am convinced to buy one. However I have a one silly problem, I don't know which color finish to choose. I prefer dark colors so I have to choose between matte black or rosewood. Which one looks better and more luxurious in a real life in terms of material and structure of the color finish? Please help me as I am not able to choose. Thanks
Thank you for watching! In all honesty, we have decided to carry only the rosewood finish from now on. The rosewood is beautiful, but it's also durable. We love how the matte black looks, but it scratches WAY too easily. Definitely recommend the rosewood!
We were just WAITING for someone to comment on that! Hahaha. Unfortunately, the 745 doesn't have a "Beethoven Piano" sound... so we'll all just have to compromise. Luckily, there's no punishment for using the "Mozart Piano" sound with music from other composers. ;)
Hello, Salar, and thanks for your question. Yes. You can adjust the "Each Key Setting" feature in Yamaha's Smart Pianist app to change the fine tuning of individual notes on the CLP-745.
If you're comparing the Roland HP-704 and the Yamaha Clavinova CLP-745, your best bet is to play both of them in real life and see which one you like better.
I hear you, Megan! NOBODY is more frustrated about it than we are. We have only seen TWO of these and they were immediately delivered to clients who pre-ordered. I would definitely recommend buying one asap so you can get them when they first come out. The backorders on these pianos are insane. Best of luck to you!
UPDATE - Megan, we do have some of these in stock at the moment. We don't have many and they are selling fast, but they did arrive as promised! You can get one here (satin black and rosewood finishes only right now): www.rivertonpiano.com/online/digital/clavinova/clp-745.php
Great video and review thank you! I have been researching like crazy and after looking at Yamaha, Casio, and Kawai I have narrowed it down to the CLP 745. But I noticed some conversation in the comments below regarding the PHA-50 action of the Roland. I was wondering if you might possibly be able to suggest a model of Roland digital piano to look at that is similar or comparable with the Yamaha CLP 745? Maybe the Roland DP603? Thanks so much!
Hello and thanks for watching! We're glad our video could shed some light on the process for you. If you want to compare this piano with a Roland, though, check out this video: ua-cam.com/video/KXrCJ8-dXbY/v-deo.html It'll show you what the Roland HP-704 is all about. Best of luck to you!
Hi, Julian, and thanks for your question! The Grandtouch keyboard is amazing. I love it... but the PHA-50 definitely beats the Grandtouch-S keyboard in my opinion. It has a more responsive control with a much higher dynamic "resolution." Other folks might disagree with me, but I prefer the PHA-50 over the Grandtouch-S. Hope that helps!
@@RivertonPianoCompany Thank you very much, your answer helps me a lot, thank you for taking the time. One last question if it is not a nuisance, which do you prefer PHA-50 or Responsive Hammer Action III from kawai? Thank you so much
My pleasure. That's what we're here for! ...and I will tell you that I DEFINITELY prefer Roland's PHA-50 action (AND Yamaha's Grandtouch-S action) to Kawai's RHA-III. ...and I am not alone. That is why the artists at last year's Grammys played on Roland and Yamaha. It's why all the big names play Roland or Clavinova on stage. ...and it's why all the major universities teach on Roland or Yamaha labs. Kawai is usually less expensive than Yamaha or Roland, but people who play are willing to spend a few more dollars to get a truly authentic (and maintenance-free in Roland's case) feel. I hope that helps!
Hi there, how would this piano compare with the Kawai CA 701? These two pianos are priced very similarly in an online music store that I would be buying from (€2,666 for the Kawai and €2,399 for the Yamaha). I can't try these pianos out since my local store do not sell them, but I would appreciate any opinions or thoughts you may have about these two pianos. Thank you!
Hello! The two pianos have very similar features, but there are a few nuances to consider. Globally, Yamaha has a far better service record than Kawai. This means you'll spend far less money maintaining your Clavinova. Also, the Yamaha Smart Pianist app has a whole bunch more features than Kawai's Bluetooth app. You can do alot more with it than you can with a Kawai. Other than that, the sound and touch preference will be very personal. I can only say that we love our Clavinovas and we sell a ton of them! Also... Professional musicians play Clavinovas on stage. You really don't see that with Kawai. Hope that helps!
Thanks for the great review, I am considering to buy a clp 745, but then saw in the internet that the keyboard gets noisy, like when pressing the keys, do you experience that?
Glad you enjoyed it! ...and don't worry about the action noise. People who don't know much about pianos complain about noisy action all the time, but - the truth is - grand pianos have a noisy action! lol You just don't hear it when you're playing them because the sound the hammers and strings make is too loud. No. We have not experienced an unusually noisy action with the CLP-745. It has the same mechanical noise that most high quality digital (and ALL acoustic pianos) have. You'll love it!
@@RivertonPianoCompany Thanks for your quick response, another question :), did you have the chance to play Kawai CA59? What do you think about it comparing it with the yamaha clp 745?
Glad to help! Yes. I have played the CA59. In fact, I sold Kawai digital pianos for several years. They have a very nice sound (comparable to Yamaha) and an adequate action... but their service record is a mess (in my opinion). We had to fix almost every one we sold... and that is not the case with Yamaha. In my opinion, Kawai is very much a "third tier" digital piano. They play well on Day 1, but they don't hold up well over time. I hope that helps!
How do you save setting changes if you modify the sound in piano room...i find when you turn it off any changes in settings are lost ...and you have to go to piano room again to change it from default
Hi, James. Thanks for a great question. Probably the easiest way to handle this is to turn the Voice Backup feature on. It's in the Function menu. Just press the Function button until you get to System. Then use the up/down arrows to get to Backup. Press the right arrow. Now arrow down to Backup Setting and press the right arrow again. Arrow down to Voice and press the right arrow to select "on." Press the exit button to leave the Function menu.
This will save your sound settings for R1, R2 and L and all the other voice parameters (except for Transpose) you were using when you turned the piano off. That ought to do it!
I'm looking at CLP-745 and CLP-765. Is there any difference besides the looks? The specs I found show that they have similar features. 765 does look nicer, but I'm questioning whether it's worth $2k more.
The CLP-745 has the wooden keys feature and the 765GP does not. The 765GP has the grand-style cabinet vs. the 745's console style cabinet. The 745 has a slightly larger sound system. Other than that, the only difference is cabinet finish options. From a specs standpoint, the 745 wins... but that baby grand cabinet is really popular. I hope that helps!
This is a great review, thanks! I've been digging and digging through videos and forums. Im currently looking at the 745, 775 and the CA79. There are no Kawai dealers in my area so no test drive! Do you have any leanings between the three?
Hello and thanks for your words of encouragement! Having played all three pianos, here's my take: The 745 is (by far) the best value. It has top-notch features at the best price. If, however, you want to get into a full-featured piano, your best bet is the CLP-775. Clavinova has a far better app ("Smart Pianist") than Kawai, Clavinova has a FAR better service record vs. Kawai, and Clavinova has a FAR superior sound (especially when you consider BOTH the CFX and Bosendorfer Imperial sounds). The 775 is also at a better price. I hope that helps!
