I used to live in Singapore too and got told off by a policeman for chewing gum. He took it away but didn't get fined. I DID get fined for jay-walking though! I waltzed right across the road directly in front of a police woman. She just shook her head and beckoned me over. I was like, "Jay-what???..." I'm from UK so had NO idea what she was on about. I was like, "but.... There are NO cars anywhere! What's the problem???" Anyhoo. Chewing gum. From what I can remember xylitol comes from Birch tree bark and apparently it's really good for tooth enamel and tooth structure strength. So there accidental benefits of adding a natural sweetener to a chewing gum for your teeth, besides being good for stimulating saliva flow which helps to break down bacteria etc etc. Also I've read that pregnant women who chew xylitol gum or ingest some form of xylitol are more likely to give birth to children who will have stronger teeth (milk teeth I guess)! Yay for gum!
ilovesoftwhispers where did you break that? xylitol has no good property's. It's just a replacement sugar testing small amounts is deemed safe for pregnant women to use
I hate how people just spit out their gum everywhere. It's seriously so, so easy to just put it in a trashcan, or take out a napkin and keep it in your pocket till you come across one. Humanity's innate ability to litter is concerning!
I'm sure the stingrays have their stingers gone, but they usually only sting you when you step on them. Their stingers flip up and stab you in the ankle. But they're pretty docile

I don't have a source for that unfortunately. I think it was a Scandinavian report my wife read when she was pregnant. I will try and find it...
