i love how humanity and the systems alliance had a progression of their own in the trilogy, with shepards decisions directly impacting how humanity´s rise to power is achieved, either trough respect or force, according to the games, the other council races have each their own reason to like the idea of humanity having a seat, the asari sees them as a sort of counterbalance to the turians in military prowess, turians see them as another strong military in the galaxy to help them out without being an incontrolable danger like the krogans, and the salarians like their capacity to innovate and progress, its also stated many times that most citadel races are somewhat worried about what humanity will do next, seeing just how fast they went from the "new guys" to being a part of the council to being basically the leading race against the reapers
the turians were the turning tide that saved the galaxy from the krogan revelions. so they being rewarded with a seat in the council is no surprise. but it should also be known the fact that by the end of the krogan revelions the turian army was bigger than that of the salarians and asari put together. to give them something less would not have been a sound move.

It protects its power and influence and that's about it. It is notable that if you follow the Council's rules you will never rise to sit among them. The only reason humanity has a chance is because we buck and challenge the rules. The Council doesn't want new members joining unless it has no choice. The alternative in humanity's case, or was the case with the turians, is alienating a rival power or sharing some power with them and working them into the system.
Innovation when given the time, motivation, and resources is a powerful thing. If Humans is able to rise to a galactic power and unite the Galaxy to provide the one of the greatest threats to the Reapers in only 37 years of being an interstellar civilization, then if the Reapers waited another century or two then they may have had to fight on a balanced playing field. If the Systems Alliance and the rest of the Citadel Council Species did not discover and build the plans for the Crucible by that point.
Is it even enslavement if the Drell are equals? They’re a minority population yes, but they’re treated with all the same respect a hanar is accorded while on kahje and other hanar worlds. Some of them have even joined Hanar families as cousins. It’s only when other species like the Asari and the Humans get involved that the word “Slaves” comes into play.

no they had less ships than the other races what made it seem like more was the way the fleets were setup 80% of the fleets were corvettes the rest were split between frigates and heavier ships the full number of ship we had that could go toe to toe with the tuarians or any other council race was about on fleet the 7th which had most of the larger ships in it this fleet was always stationed near the main relay to the earth systems and is the fleet that saved the council but by the time of mass effect 3 only 20 if the ships were left including Hackets flagship the oter fleets were all small patrol fleets
Humans bring more military might as they went toe toe to toe with the turians. They also destroy the atrify caused by complacent species with their desire to grow.
The main reason the council likes humans is because they are a soecies new to interstellar exploration and they are eager to expand, wich would also expand citadel's space and economy, but the humans would also like some tangible help from the council, wich they are very hesitant about.

In all 4 games you travel ftl on either the Normandy or Tempest to many nearby stars, relatively speaking, in fact in andromeda there are no relays or at least none have been discovered.
I think humanities contribution to the council was a bit of everything. Many of the corporations mentioned in the game are Human, giving them a fair bit of technological advancement, as well a fairly significant fleet. humanity was already pretty well established in terms of fleets and colonies before first contact was made.
Isn't the Alliance military second only to the Turians? 2:25 Justicars of the Old Citadel!! C'mon, why'd we go to Andromeda? This time period, the Rachni Wars, the Krogan Rebellions, the Morning War, First Contact War, Skyllian Blitz... ALL would've been way way WAAY better to explore.
In addition to the racism of the citadel, its incompetence and desire to make defenseless people or groups suffer for centuries for things that happened a long time ago, not long. In mass effect, they really have a lot of power, but really in the continuity of the franchise, they just seem to be idiots and make bad decisions.
Why most of the Milky Way is not explored is because the races of the galaxy are not too keen on activating every relay they come across unless they have already found the relay at the other end. That is because such a foolish action is what caused first contact and eventual conflict with the Rachni that nearly doomed the entire galaxy. The Salarians where forced to seek aid by uplifting the Krogan to use as shock troops. They eventually won the war but the Krogan where uplifted when they where not ready for the advancement and their aggression eventually became problematic for the galaxy.
Humans brought innovation and development? Dude, they stood against the TURIANS...... AFTER the Krogan war! They didn't have access to any of the tech or resources the Turians did. Putting up any sort of fight, from their position, should be considered impressive. I have a distant memory from one of the games about how even though Turians hated humans, the generals and soldiers respected them even before they joined the Citadel because of their tactics and tenacity in battle.

It's really not that it's strange, the games tell you after or before the creation of the geth and it's not consistent, they don't tell you anything else, from what is taken from the books of the franchise it seems that those laws were established after the creation of the geth o were different as after the survivors escaped the geths and genocide. the laws in part seem to have been to have a punching bag for the council, and because the council for 300 years thought that the geths might at some point attack them. That is why they did not help the quarians because they believed that the geths would destroy the council of citadel and because of their fear they mistreated them and would never help them. Despite their prayers and that millions would die.
