I find it hilarious...it's dry humor...so count me in as one that understands the context/history. Stan eventually refers to the proceedings as "a circus"...now, who doesn't consider contemporary politics and Senate hearings a circus, too? Timely material.
I'm 56, and I do appreciate it -- Stan Freberg fan ever since someone here posted a clip to his fabulous mini-musical Omaha! that's a butternut coffee ad in disguise.
In my 50s and a fan of Freberg ever since my dad shared his box of 45 records with me and my sister back ca. 1974 when we acquired an older aunt's record player. (We got a lot of mileage out of my dad's copies of Sh-Boom and Dear John and Marsha Letter.) Recognize that purple Columbia label very well.
We had this record when I was a kid. Good to hear it again.
I had a copy of this on a 45, but certain gags were cut, such as the “57 varieties” on the fade-out.

Bwahahahaha!! I doubt anybody under the age of 70 will appreciate this bit!
