A great episode....I adore Dougie...he is a helluva great engine tech, BUT in this episode the 2 things as to this engine Mark called him out for...the no sealer on the intake to valley pan and calling the valve cover studs exhaust studs...Mark was 100% correct . As to the third thing mark called him out on as to valve cover usage to engine families i am not sure so I will digress. One thing though...granted it's not seen but I would shoot a light coat of the orange on the bottom of the intake before installing it. i am guessing the valley cover pan will be covered quite nicely once Will does his painting magic. Thanks for another great episode guys!! More dissection too with the hood inner frame...an odd mess but fixed perfectly. I do wonder though, given as bad as that rot was how much of a weight difference there was between the swiss cheese scrap and its replacement. You guys never disappoint..more useful info easily explained🙂
Pretty sure Brody would do a better job putting a motor together. Didn't seal the intake, runs in the head bolts in a straight row with with an impact before torqueing them, continues to assemble parts with open ports and no valve covers leaving a ton of opertunity to drop some something down in the engine, hammers the balancer on like a monkey than uses an impact to seat it. Instead of using a balancer installer, he may have compromised a thrust bearing and also risked damaging the threads in the end of the crank. I get that the factory would paint the engine once it was assembled but it looks so much nicer and shows the time and effort and attention when you paint everything individually and have nice clean edges of new gaskets showing. And engine paint on exhaust manifolds, headers always burns off. Either coat ceramic coat them or use actual exhaust temp rated paint. And a good tip for painting a motor, take a torch to anything iron to draw the moisture out of the metal. That paint will stay forever. If you clean a motor and just blow it off with an air hose, it's not truly dry. The first time that engine gets up to temp, the moisture will wick out and peel that paint off before to long.

Absolutely nothing. Writing a Stephen King novel telling us about how to get the paint to stick when anybody who watches the show, which includes you because you know who Brody is, knows that part of what they do is to mimic the factory exactly, or as close as they can in most cases.
